Hands down the best gym in the city. It’s more than a gym, with so many amenities such as basketball gym, golf simulators, pool, sauna, barbershop, cafe, rooftop lounges and more. The staff (especially Thea who gave us tours and helped with the sign up) is incredible. Fresh towels, clean, attentive and always saying good morning. Not sure where the negative reviews come from, never an issue with scheduling or getting on machines, always a healthy balance of people here but never overly crowded. Plus who would want a gym that no one’s at anyway?

I’m a new member but so far am really enjoying the facilities and classes. I haven’t found it difficult to get into yoga or Pilates classes (Admittedly, I’m taking them during the day.) The locker room, hot tub, and sauna are well-appointed.

I had a decent experience at The Sporting Club overall, but I recently cancelled my membership because it didn’t quite live up to expectations. One of the main issues that led to me leaving was the fact that the club’s membership has increased dramatically over the last six months. I understand that their incentive is to have as many members as possible, but this results in the club being very crowded during peak times. I was super excited about the fitness classes when I first joined, but the rapid membership growth resulted in it becoming very difficult to reserve a spot in any class that isn’t held during the workday. To get a spot, you essentially need to set an alarm for when a class opens each week, but even this doesn’t always work because of how much competition there is. The increase in membership also made it a lot harder to find a place to do some remote work during the day, since there are only ~15 comfortable seats near a power source. It was also (understandably) too loud to take calls, so I can’t really recommend it as a place to work remotely. I definitely lost some respect for the club when they refused to honor their membership policies. When I asked which section of the membership agreement states that a freeze can’t precede a cancellation, they were unable to answer and seemed very unhappy that I wanted to cancel my membership at all. Also, they charge a $25 fee just to freeze your membership, which is such an obvious cash grab. Considering how high the monthly fee is (not to mention the sign-up fee!), it didn’t feel great to have them try to wring as much money as possible out of me before I left. It’s worth mentioning that the facilities are very high quality. There’s a ton of space, the locker rooms and showers are super well-kept, and there’s a great rooftop area. I think it would be a good fit for someone with a very flexible schedule so you can avoid peak times, or if you really want a pool since that’s difficult to find at other gyms.

This is the BEST gym in Philadelphia!!!! They have everything you need for a successful workout. Basketball court, indoor track, hot tube, cold plunge, sauna, steam room, fitness classes 💪🏾, spin, trx, business area, game room, snack bar. The absolute BEST!!

Over the past four or five months, the club has seen a dramatic increase in members. Classes are more difficult to book (good luck getting into Pilates!) The pool and running lanes are perpetually full. The locker room is overcrowded and consistently out of towels. The remote work areas are always occupied. I loved the club when I joined a year ago, but the current reality does not justify the sky-high sign-up fee and monthly membership rate. I only give two stars instead of one because the reception and locker room staff are all incredible even through they are stretched thin. If you want to join, I encourage you tour during peak hours (4:00pm-7:00pm) to see what you're in for!

It's a nice sized gym in a beautiful building with friendly staff, all the equipment seems to work on a broad walk through, the bathrooms however were a little messy on my visit.

They don’t tell you when they’re closed so you show up to the gym looking like an idiot. Supreme ignorance going on just assuming people know when they’re closed I set up my whole day around going and took all this pre workout and than even tried calling the other planet fitness to see if they were open and no one answered, take urself seriously guys and provide some sort of communication with ur loyal customers seriously I’m not even joking

I really enjoyed my first class with Victor! He was a great instructor with a lot of energy, and kept us motivated throughout. Highly recommend his class!!

I enjoyed my first Rumble class! Atmosphere: As a Philly native, I loved how the decor of the studio tied into defining elements of Philadelphia's culture and history! From the life-size Rocky Balboa statue to wall art that featured the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, you can tell how thoughtful Rumble was when designing this space to be both unique and nostalgic. There were plenty of lockers to use and a well-stocked women's locker room that had essentials for post-workout sessions. Workout Session: As my first workout class, I was surprised by how much can be packed into 45 minutes. Our large group rotated between bags and workout benches twice, which allowed us ample time and opportunity to work out different areas of our body. I also liked how the class began by reviewing the 6 different types of punches we would need to know before the class. If you forgot the form of a punch or dumbbell exercise, there were videos on the wall that acted as demonstration guides to keep you on track. I enjoyed this and the music that kept me on tempo with each set. Tips: I brought my own gloves and hand wraps, which allowed me to save some money. If you want to be a regular Rumble guest, I recommend investing in your own equipment to bring with you!

Showed up for class this morning, but they had no trainers available. The class was announced as cancelled 10 minutes after the original start time. Promised refunds of: class credit and glove rentals, but have not received confirmation email of either refund.

Honestly, it was so bad I don’t know where to begin. You absolutely will NOT learn boxing here. The class I took had over 20 people. The class was held in an almost pitch black room with club music so loud you couldn’t hear a thing the instructor said. He was on a microphone headset screaming cliches about kicking butt but it sounded like static because he ate the headphones. No one got one word of individualized instruction. No correction on footwork. No reinforcement of hands up. No hip rotation. Even beginners were told to do 6 punch combos including hooks and uppercuts with no one walking around correcting form. I am not exaggerating there was a woman doing downward hammer chops (picture a kid having a tantrum) on a heavy bag for half the class and she was never corrected or assisted. If I graded this on an aerobics class it was meh but had no resemblance to anything related to the beautiful art of boxing. Not to mention they should be ashamed that they charge $300 a month! Save your money and your time. This is will not help you with self defense or learn how to actually throw a punch. You could be doing it completely wrong from day one and no one would ever correct you or educate you.

I went for the first time last week. It was easy to follow along and learn the 6 punches on the spot. I had fun and will definitely be back soon 😊

Started going to cycle classes. TOTALLY depends on the instructor. Have to say hands down Mike was amazing and my favorite instructor thus far. His music is fun. He is equally motivating yet fun and friendly. I felt like I got the best of both sides- great workout with just the right amount of push, and a fun session with great music. The people at the front desk were the nicest and friendliest. All these little details matter to me and I have to say that out of all the cycle studios in the area, this one checks all the boxes for friendliness, customer service, and overall top tier performance from the class. Cannot recommend enough.

I am OBSESSED with this place. The classes are GREAT! The set up is like a stadium inside, and sometimes it’s very full. It’s so fun here. Julia is my favorite instructor. She’s so motivating and challenging. My only complaint is I wish it got darker in there. I sometimes get overstimulated by being able to see everyone and everything.

I’m relatively new to spin and have to say that everyone at this studio is great! They were super helpful getting me set up and the class had such a positive energy. I really enjoyed that the bike shows you metrics so you can try to keep up with the instructor.

I tried out Dave's Ride today at CYCLEBAR. I can't stress this enough, this was the best ride I've had in a REALLY long time. If you're in Philly, and looking for a challenge but also a good community, start with Dave. It is imperative!!! He is the best!!! I will be going back to attend more and more of his classes. I feel amazing after that class. Thank you Dave!

Overall, a really great experience here. I was initially greeted very kindly and felt extremely welcomed by all of the staff. I was at first a little nervous because of how amazing this place is. Having it be my first time at City Fitness, it definitely is a little overwhelming, but they provide you with so much of what you need/can use during a workout. And also, their locker rooms are completely clean and unforgettable. I know when I go to any gym, I like it when it’s kept nice and clean, especially if I use the showers. This place has it all: shampoo/conditioner/body wash/lotion, hairdryers, feminine products, hairspray, q-tips, makeup cloths, towels, the list goes on! If you’re looking for a convenient, clean, well-organized, professionally staffed, positive atmosphere gym then you are at the right place.

City Fitness is the quintessential gym in Center City but the real hidden gem is their Thrive Program. Christian, one of the trainers, is simply the best. He has the perfect combination of motivating you while pushing you to be your best self. I would recommend it a million times over.

Just signed up for this gym and so far am impressed! You get a lot of value for your money and the staff is really friendly. Definitely one of the best gyms I've ever been to, if not the best.

I want to thank City Fitness for taking the time to truly listen to my concerns and for addressing an issue I experienced with great care and professionalism. After a misunderstanding regarding a Thrive membership, John the Director went above and beyond to acknowledge the situation and worked to correct it. As someone who has been a loyal member since 2017, I’ve always appreciated and respected City Fitness for their dedication to providing a great experience for members. Mistakes happen, but it’s how a business responds that truly matters. Thank you to John and Marc M for all of your help in turning a frustrating situation into a positive resolution. Absolute class acts.

I love this gym!! It’s fully stocked, only crowded from 4:30-7:30 pm, open late, and - my favorite part - it has a sauna and steam room. The locker room even has a diffuser for curly haired girls. I spend like 2-3 hours here at a time and leave feeling like a new person.

I was in Philly with a group for a leadership conference and a few of us decided to sign up for a Barry's session. When we arrived at this Barry's location they told us the session would be free as many of us have not participated in a Barry's training before. I was unsure what to expect for the class, but was pleasantly surprised with how the class was organized and well-structured. For the workout, there was a floor group and a treadmill group. It was divided into two rounds of each (floor and treadmill) with the participants in the class alternating with each other. The room was dark with red lights and lively music to keep everyone going. Dylan instructed the class and did an excellent job explaining the exercises and kept the energy high throughout the workout. There is a smoothie bar at the front where you can get many different flavors to refuel after your workout. I will definitely sign up for another Barry's class and recommend it to anyone who is serious about keeping in shape. Thank you for the great workout and making it free for many of us for our first time.

Kate D was really good instructor! Even though it was a small class on holiday weekend for Labor Day, she brought good energy! Also, I was DF at the end, she filled me in what missed when I stepped out for a second. Very thoughtful!

I enjoy attending classes here when I can make it. I do find it very inappropriate that men can go topless/shirtless during class. I don’t think any of my clothing as optional during a workout.

I’ve been going to Barry’s for over 10 years and I just keep going back. No matter what stage of my fitness journey I’m at - crushing road races, pregnancy and postpartum, or just having a good time with friends, Barry’s has been there. From Kelly Whittaker in Boston to the amazing Philly community and trainers she’s mentored, they’re all killing it. Go to Barry’s!

If someone tells me they do Barry's consistently, I just know they're a DAWG. You can cheat solidcore, you can cheat corepower, but you can't cheat Barry's. You gettin a SWEAT. My only issue is I really can't make out 70% of what the instructor is saying. I find it so hard to discern if she is talking to the people on the floor or the people on the treadmills, let alone what she is actually saying... but I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer so take that with a grain of salt. I just kind of look over at what my girlfriend is doing, and do +1 speed or just go straight by feel. I love the mix of weights and cardio, and there is nothing like pushing yourself on a treadmill to see your top speed. There is something so freeing in making the mental decision of "I'm either going to hit this speed or I'm going to hit the floor in front of this whole class. No in between." You can also order a smoothie to be ready right when you finish class, which is such an elite touch. Having my Slutty PB smoothie waiting for me after I just left my soul in the Barry’s Red Room is what life is all about. Remember earlier when I said I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer? Well I just want to clarify something: I am sharp…and I am in the drawer. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

My home studio. OTF has been a mainstay in my fitness routine since gyms reopened during COVID. I started there wearing masks and working out next to people with plastic barricades - and have stayed ever since. I needed a consistent group workout following Flywheel center city (and the company overall) going bankrupt during COVID. I worked and rode at flywheel as my go to fitness establishment for work, workouts, stress relief, and socialization for 7 years. Without it, I knew I needed an alternative. OTF is it! It’s a great workout. Every class is consistently challenging but doable. As a physical therapist, I like how many different facets of a person’s wellbeing OTF hits. They check every box - speed, strength, coordination, balance, stretching, mindfulness - and they do a great job offering form cues and alternatives like elliptical or bike instead of treadmill, walk instead of run, and different variations of floor exercise. I would never work as hard as I do on my own as I do in class with an instructor and others around me. Thanks for the push!! I recommend OTF to so many patients and friends. I’ve recruited my mom as a member and am working on getting my husband in for at least one class ☺️ I like that every class is different. The coaches are friendly and motivating. The studio is conveniently located. And the app is easy to use to track your stats and book classes.

This is not my home studio, so when I arrived I asked if I needed to pay anything, I was told “no” by the front desk. Since there was no price difference I continued to come to two additional classes at this location. Today I received a text stating that I needed to give them my credit card information. When I called a male told me that I needed to pay for the three classes I attended. I explained to him that i asked the front desk and was told that I didn’t need to pay. His response was, “I wasn’t present for that conversation, you still need to pay for all the classes or your account will be suspended”. He even acknowledged that his front desk may have messed up, but I still needed to pay. Had he honored what his staff told me initially I would’ve paid for future classes that I planned to take there. They should definitely learn better customer service skills, and teach your staff how to answer the phone.

Orangetheory has been calling me for literally 3 weeks and I finally picked up and was going to schedule the first class but Paul picked up and he was SO rude. I literally answered the call intending to go in and Paul was so rude that at the end of the call I decided against it like how are you so bad you lose a sale that easily. I’ve been to other Orangetheory locations and they’re always nice like damn 💀

Had kids and put workouts on hold. Needed a fun environment to get me back into the swing of things. Decided to try OTF at a friend’s recommendation, and so glad I did. I love the fast paced boot camp type style with solid cardio each time. Tory was my first coach and I’ve stuck with her since - I feel like I get an amazing workout with her every single time! She puts together fun, interesting programs so it’s never boring, gives great tips to improve my form, and her music helps me get pumped up. Tim at the front desk is also awesome!! Always greets everyone with a smile and is super welcoming.

I absolutely love going to Orangetheory Fitness! It is such an amazing workout studio. Amanda and Bryan are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They always provide excellent guidance and support throughout. The workouts themselves are consistently challenging, which is great because it pushes me to continuously improve and reach new fitness goals. Not only that, but the atmosphere in the studio is always so fun and energetic, making every workout a truly enjoyable experience. I highly recommend Orangetheory Fitness to anyone looking for a workout that is both challenging and enjoyable!

Solid gym! The trainer DJ is very motivating. However, when you cancel there is a 30 day period where they keep you on even if you want to leave. They offer the ability to pause your membership for a week but do not honor it during your cancellation window. I understand there are policies, but it wasn’t too flexible for someone simply trying out the gym. Be careful when you sign up.

It has been more than a month since I joined F45. I find the routines to be well thought-out and balanced. Moreover, the routines are really challenging but the trainers motivate till the last set. I appreciate how each trainer checks my form during a set and helps me if I go wrong. They are all fun. I highly recommend joining F45!

Great gym and atmosphere! I came in as a complete beginner and all the coaches were welcoming. They often would give me modifications if an exercise was too difficult and sometimes join me in doing the exercise. It’s usually difficult for me to stay consistent but the support and community of the gym makes it easy and well worth it!

I’ve been a member for a few months now and the trainers always bring positive energy and assist when they spot incorrect form. Whether you are a serious fitness buff or just a beginner looking to stay in shape they always create a challenge with modifications as needed. Would definitely recommend to anybody living in the center city area, it’s the best of all the gyms I’ve ventured.

I'm so glad I joined F45 in Center City! This place is the best. Not only are the workouts super effective and helped me get closer to my fitness goals, but the instructors here are incredible. Such positive energy and always there to help you ensure you do every move correctly. There are way too many studios out there that will let folks do exercise moves the wrong way and risk injuring themselves but not here. You will be shown how to do things the right way and maximize the work you're doing so you feel the burn! Very happy I'm part of this community and would highly recommend to anyone considering it.

The gym is busy, that's undeniable. The rock wall is only open during the week, no weekends, from 4-10. But the workers are nice. The pool has pretty restricted hours also, because Drexel S&D practices there. My partner and I try to workout outside if peak hours, but even at 7pm we can usually get a squat rack and do our lifts.

Very small pool. Only 6 lanes - roughly 4 feet wide and 25 feet long. It was impossible to do any kind of physical therapy workouts as the pool was packed with minimum 3 people per lane. The facility supervisor was unwilling to understand my situation when I requested a refund for the 3 month subscription I had bought. They suggested doing said physical therapy workouts "by the pool side"?? even though said workouts are done in water. Bringing up covid concerns, they advised me to wear a mask even though my concerns were about the fact that the pool was packed with minimum 3 people per lane. I bought this subscription for the sake of the pool, not because I wanted to stand by one when I do workouts. Waste of money. Horrible experience.

It is a good recreation center with most of the equipments newly installed. The facility is clean and has great Vibe. The front desk and floor staffs are really good too. There need to be more lockers. And sometime I felt there should be a clear instructions to not occupy an equipment forever while scrolling through mobile phones. Lol.

This a really great place to work out, have a good time playing games, swimming, sitting in the corridor. It has a really good lighting suitable for any kind of work. This is the Drexel's corridor and outdoor view from here. You have Wawa, 7 Eleven, Starbucks and many other options nearby to eat.

Bad customer service and bad communication. It made me fell they are the rule makers and you can only obey and follow. Don’t expect too much given the cheap price. Fair enough

I absolutely like this gym. It is so huge and has sufficient capacity to accommodate many people in a given time. But only thing is there’re many broken equipments- if those were taken care of faster I would literally give this gym a 5 stars. All security staffs are so warm; they welcome every time so warmly. Membership desk personnel are equally helpful and friendly. 4pm onwards generally there is a rush. Otherwise it’s moderately crowded. I recommend this gym.

Weight room is extremely busy. So choose the times wisely. They have a lot of rooms in different floors witch can be a bit confusing and a hassle to move from floor to floor to do different workouts. The equipment is are new and in good condition though

I am a Penn student with credits for two classes (“Program: Adult 1.0 & 2.0 Clinic Wednesday”): Every time I called to book a class, I was told it was fully booked and to try again later. Recently, I was informed I couldn’t use my credit due to a system change. No one mentioned the credit had an expiration date. The manager of the tennis center was very rude and hung up on me. Worst experience ever!

They often get number of checked out basketball wrong and deny to admit it, insisting it’s users’ responsibility to get back the exact ball they want.

Pros: - Organized and maintained equipment. Cons: - Weight room is too small for the number of patrons it serves. The size maybe was good when it was first established. There far more gym goers these days than a decade ago. About ten years ago, I used to go to the weight room any time of the day and can easily access the equipment want. Now, however, if I can't make it before 4pm, I don't even bother to go to the weight room. Management should consider their patron's demand and apply changes to the facility accordingly.

EveryBody Movement and Wellness is an amazing studio! I’ve taken the Pilates spring classes and yoga classes. The instructors are attentive and communicative and the exercise feels great. I mainly do private classes with Julia. She knows body mechanics better than any PT or exercise person I’ve worked with. She is exceptionally skilled at tailoring strength building exercises to your needs. Her classes are rigorous and feel so good! She has saved my back over the years and has kept me in the game by keeping my mobility, flexibility and strength up. I could not recommended Everybody more!

My experience at EveryBody Movement and Wellness has been fantastic. I have been taking pilates classes at the studio for three years and over this time my body has gotten so much stronger, I have fewer aches and pains and even my confidence has improved. Julia is incredibly skilled and has a master level understanding of body mechanics. In my sessions, she is able to tailor the exercises to any needs I have while at the same time challenging me and providing a rigorous workout. She is also always coming up with new exercises so it’s never boring! On top of this, the studio is extremely welcoming and feels like a safe space for anyone interested in moving their body.

I highly recommend this wonderful, beautiful studio and the smart and talented people who work here. I will be 80 years old in a couple of years, and I have had my share of aches and injuries during my life. I have had excellent physical therapy and fitness coaches in the past, but I rate my pilates work with Julia at EveryBody Movement and Wellness over the past three years as tops for my current needs. Julia is a great teacher and listener, and she has helped me understand the way that our muscles support our bones. At every session, we explore what is going on with my body, and she tailors the session to address these issues. I always feel stronger after each class, and I have made great progress in the wake of some difficult pain and injuries. Of course I have had doctors and medical treatment, but my work with Julia has made a huge difference. Pilates is not about stretching, but about building a strong foundation to hold up our bodies so they can move without pain.

Attending weekly springboard classes at EveryBody is not only a joyful part of my routine, but a vital component in my wellness! Both Kalila and Megan are encouraging and supportive instructors who have taken the time to understand my individual movement goals even in group classes. Over the last year(+) I have seen a noticeable improvement in my strength, posture, and general energy level.

Highly recommend EveryBody Movement and Wellness - the space is warm and welcoming and the instructors are wonderful. I started going about 3 months ago and have been taking the springboard pilates class regularly which I not only enjoy, but have been a great source of stress relief and core strengthening. I moved into the neighborhood 2 years ago and had really missed group workout classes after leaving Fishtown since there seem to be more limited options readily available in West Philly. EveryBody has really filled that space in my schedule and given me a great outlet and little community. If you're on the fence about trying out EveryBody, I would encourage you to do it!

Hard to review a college gym. It's there, right in back of Franklin field. A Penn gymnasium.
