I was initially excited about this gym because it’s catered toward women, and I thought it would be a supportive and empowering space. My first visit was fine, but on my second visit, I was incredibly disappointed. While doing sit-ups, I overheard the owner and her partner/assistant say, “She’s not going to last long working out.” How rude and unprofessional! A gym should be a place of encouragement, not a space where the people in charge whisper discouragement about their members. It completely shattered any motivation I had, and I decided not to return. If you’re looking for a positive and uplifting environment, I’d recommend finding a gym where the staff actually supports your fitness journey. This place is not it.

This is a great yoga studio with a variety of classes. Street parking is easily available and it's located in a beautiful part of West Philly. I'm a long time practitioner and I've had great experiences with all the teachers and students. Everyone is down to earth, respectful, and friendly. As of this review, if you've never been to Hot Yoga Sutra, you can purchase a $75 monthly unlimited and that will stay in effect unless you cancel your monthly membership. This is an amazing deal for hot yoga compared to other studios in the area. The owner, Gerardo, is warm and welcoming, as are all the other teachers. I highly recommend checking out Hot Yoga Sutra!

"I like Hot Yoga THIS much!" "Styyyyyx... Pay attention! It's palms down to start." Studio owner Gerardo Nelson Candolino is a very thoughtful and experienced teacher, you'll find him teaching the genuine 26/2 experience in a standard 90 minute session. Catch a monthly Advanced 84 Asanas class with Jessica Joy Myers, trained with Bikram and principal teacher Emmy Cleaves three times a week until HQ's closing in 2016. You won't find a more qualified and experienced wealth of knowledge for miles around!

I've had a great time so far at this studio. As a complete beginner, it's been very accessible, especially if you are used to doing other kinds of fitness activities that can be abrasive to the body but haven't done much to try to improve flexibility and bodily awareness. There are different options too depending on your vibe, from HIIT classes that will make you feel like you're in a really fun club in Miami, to a variety of yoga approaches that will calm everything down. The instructors I've encountered have been very approachable and the owner Gerardo is really nice!

I have only been actively attending for 2 weeks and I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in my body's alignment, my sense of inner stillness, and my flexibility. Everyone at the studio is very kind. Gerardo is my favorite as he recognizes where you're at. Yet, he encourages you to get to a place that is challenging yet safe. I am a huge fan!

This location has some of the best staff I’ve ever encountered! The workers are incredibly friendly, always greet you with a smile, and are super helpful whenever you need assistance. The gym itself is clean, well-maintained, and has all the basic equipment you’d expect. That said, be cautious if you plan to use the locker room. Make sure you bring a lock if you’re leaving valuables in a locker, as there have been instances of theft. It’s a shame because the facility itself is great, but you can’t be too careful with your belongings. Overall, a solid place to work out, and the amazing staff really makes it stand out!

Came here with a friend the other evening. This isn’t the usual gym I go to, however, I was really impressed with how well the bathroom were cleaned. The worker who was there was very professional and welcoming. The gym wasn’t really packed so I was able do all the machines that I had planned easily. 5 stars.

Had a contract to rent the gym, asked someone about the gym being our home court multiple times she said yes, asked can we host our home games here? She said yes. Told me everything would be set for me. We had a game scheduled for today she called at 4pm asking could the gym coach use half of the gym to train people which has been an on going problem. He is constantly booking sessions in the gym know we paid for a monthly rental at that time. So I told her no we have A game today at 6:30pm she calls back at 5pm saying "oh the head guy said you can't play games in the gym he has to approve it. I asked could I speak to him she said oh he at a game he can't speak right now. At which point I had to cancel the game and reach out to the leagues reps that were enroute to cancel everything. I called back because none of what she said, he said was in my contract. She puts the gym coach on the phone who claims to be in charge of everything at the GLEC now and states if he wanted leagues to run in there he would have done it already. I said I'm not running a league I hosting a youth basketball game for a hr of my 2hr rental. A total of 15 kids. He then goes on to be a smart ass. In turn he was the same person just trying to train someone on my gym time. Now you're in charge of everything and I can't run my game, just practice. The other team can come in and practice with us but no game. Like how does that make any sense. For a place that can hardly keep the lights on your willing to turn away someone that's constantly paying you $500+ a month & trying to help the youth. Make that make sense. Note the young lady that I'm speaking about it's not her fault she does an amazing job.

I don't have a membership here, but I did take swim lessons with Doris. She's a great instructor. She has great patience and she thinks outside of the box to help you conquer areas that you're having difficulties. The pool temp was always warm and comfortable, which is great during the colder months. 10s across the board!! Parking is free just ask the front desk assistant for a parking token. All pros, no cons on my end!

This place is not even the best set up but its quiet in there. However, they wanted to charge 10 freaking bucks for a guest to workout. Whattttt? Many other gyms that have updated exercise machines at least let you bring a guest in for a 3 day trail or for free. Planet fitness cost $20 a month and a person can bring a friend for free. Outrageous.

I love everything about Yardout fitness! The classes are always a great workout, the energy in the room is amazing. We work hard, have fun, encourage and motivate one another, while learning and getting results! Ron shows his appreciation to his clients, members, and non members by having social networking events to bring everyone together outside of fitness. He gives classes every other Sunday for non members to be able to come workout at a low rate. In addition he offers free classes to the community. The owner is very knowledgeable, skilled, and a master at his craft. He does a lot of teaching so everyone knows the proper way to do every exercise. He talks about nutrition and invites everyone to join in different challenges the gym has to help reach your health and fitness goals. This fitness family has had a tremendous impact on my fitness goals. I hate to miss any classes!!

I have been going to Yardout just short of a year and I have enjoyed my experience. Ron is a knowledgeable trainer and he motivates and pushes me to be my best so that I can reach my fitness goals. More importantly, he ensures my technique and form are correct to avoid injury. I love the culture and atmosphere because everyone motivates and encourages each other during workouts. The gym area is kept clean but the men’s locker room and bathroom are atrocious. They are not quick to fix equipment, some have been out of service for over a month. We all know planet fitness makes a ton of money, equipment should not be out of service more then a few days. This is easily the best gym in Philly. All new equipment and nice machines. I never have to wait for a bench or squat rack. I’ve worked out at a lot of different places all over the world, but the ambiance at Fusion is levels above them all. The staff does a tremendous job keeping the gym clean, and Lyric is always at the front desk to greet you with positive energy. Only knock on this gym is that whoever has the AUX is a huge Aubrey fan (I ain’t mad at ya, I was too in my younger days). Just make sure you bring some nice headphones, turn your music up, and enjoy your workout!

I purchased a deal thru Groupon and unfortunately I was only able to attend ONE class out of the whole months voucher, due to me getting sick two days after purchasing it. It sucked because I really enjoyed the one class that I got to experience with Abby. I had trouble getting into a class online so I stopped in. Abby was able to get me signed up for the class that was about to start. I’m so out of shape and I was so uncomfortable. Abby made sure my posture was correct without being demeaning. She is very stern but nice! She gives you that push. Hopefully, I’ll catch another deal so I can get the full experience. Then I would probably end up signing up. Try a class! It’s worth it!

CKO KICKBOXING - SOUTH PHILLY is a clean and sanitary gym, with ample free parking. Once inside, you’ll be performing a high octane workout that “helps you achieve fitness goals and RELIEVE STRESS by TAKING IT OUT ON THE BAG“! This isn’t a gym where seeing someone workout longer, or lift more weight can leave you feeling low. CKO SOUTH PHILLY is “a community driven gym”, conveniently located to roadways, and highways. The personal text messages I received in my 1st 10 days at the gym, completely ceased thereafter. They were are all helpful, and provided a boost to my psyche. The texts received through my 10th day of membership were smart on many levels, a value add for clients, and market differentiator. I took time and consideration to wait until after class to tell the owner how impressed I was by the gym, her business acumen, the instructor, and the class. I was so grateful, that I accompanied a 5 star review with videos that needed to be specific time lengths on different platforms. As going to the gym is beneficial, the experience of using a new video editor over a day expanded my mind. Why the high praise for the owner, the gym, and the entire staff, bothered the owner, and me want, so deeply, I canceled attending all, but two classes, feeling dejected by the same person I thought extremely highly, receiving a different response at the gym from the owner, and, ironically, all texts ceased. I’ll leave up the initial texts, which provided a belief that the owner deserved to be praised for taking an extra step that was incredibly kind, and motivating. Therefore, my expectations were raised, and I was more eager to attend a gym than ever before. CKO South Philly is a place with diverse people who all check their egos and/or issues outside the building. You could not ask for more attentive, energetic, and upbeat personable instructors, with class sizes so limited in size, that you feel as if you have a personal trainer who motivates you. My first two classes were both led by a fantastic instructor, Stacey Secreto. What Stacey fits in a 45 minute class will sharply increase your heart rate, make you sweat, and burn maximal calories. The pace is non-stop, except for a couple 30 second breaks. The repetitions of exercises are intense and rapidly changing. On that day, the class was “Kickboxing & Resistance”, which integrates kickboxing with a resistance band around your ankles along with movements that combine 3-6 different movements, from an array of punches, kicks, jumping jacks, to squats, planks, and more. My second class, with Stacey, was “Kickboxing & Conditioning”- an HIIT workout that incorporates kickboxing with strength training. So, in addition to punches and kicks at the bag, you push the bag with your hands, then your feet, while integrating exercises, and picking up a weighted ball above your head, throwing it to the ground and doing a series of punches, jabs, hooks, crossovers, roundhouse with your feet, exercises with weights, and stretching before and after work outs. On any given week, there’s usually 8 different types of classes. Sometimes, there’s pop-up classes added in. There’s currently 10 types of classes, offered at a variety of times- morning, late afternoon, early evening, weekdays and weekends. They cover and combine techniques that utilize one or more of the following, kickboxing, strengthening, conditioning, breathing, core, contrology, resistance bands, skills, drills, rhythm, and bruise! They sell kickboxing gear, juice cleanses, workout clothing, and more. Check out their Facebook page for information and updates, as well as their other social media sites. If you eat right (read labels and know what is going into and/or on your body), and go to several classes a week, you’ll shed pounds like a German Shepherd sheds hair in the summer.

What a difference a couple of weeks can make. In any aspect of life, the unexpected can occur for better or for worse. For some, to go to the gym, it's about getting in the right mindset. You may need a person who pushes you- to kickstart your own drive. Asking for help is OK. What went wrong at CKO South Philly, I take accountability for, because, like most things in life, if you want it done, you need to take initiative, and ownership. Few people are empathic, and less are available when you need help. That’s life, and reality. This isn't a gym where seeing another exercising longer, or lifting more weight leaves you feeling low. CKO SOUTH PHILLY is kickboxing gym that "helps you achieve fitness goals and RELIEVE STRESS by TAKING IT OUT ON THE BAG"! The gym is clean, and sanitary. The staff is dedicated to ensure so. The members are as diverse as the staff. Everyone is focused, cordial, and aiming towards achieving a common goal. A week prior to my 1st class, I received personal texts to offer assistance. The most valuable texts, occurred during the 1st week. They were UNEXPECTED, ENCOURAGING, as are words of affirmations on walls across the gym. Texts showed care, and thoughtfulness. From business and psychology standpoints, they were a smart value add, and provided a boost to my psyche, that I needed. Who knew messages would push me to drive 25 minutes over going to the gym, I never utilized, 2 floors below? The texts were ingenious marketing, and optimized fitness effectiveness- a personal touch, and market differentiator. I was HIGHLY impressed, and expressed such to the owner. My first 2 classes were both led by Stacey- she’s amazing! 1st class, “Kickboxing & Resistance”, integrates kickboxing with a resistance band around your ankles along with combined revolving movements from punches, kicks, jumping jacks, squats, planks, pushups, etc. My 2nd class with Stacey, “Kickboxing & Conditioning”- incorporated kickboxing with strength training. In addition to punches and kicks at the bag, you push/kick the bag with your hands, feet, weights, the bag, and stretching before and after work outs. A class I highly recommend, especially for beginners, is CKO Technique: Skills and Drills. Ray Reese, an outstanding instructor, begins and ends with stretching, and teaches you the fundamentals of kickboxing. Repetitions of punches and kicks have you constantly in movement, raising your heart rate, and working on 2 bags. As class progresses, so does the pace, the mixture of punches, kicks, action work to the bag with your forearms, and knees, pushing the bag, rotating feet and arms. Positioning alters from in front of bags, between 2, moving from a starting place, rotating moves, right to left, and returning where you started- all continually modified repetitions. You’ll kick from behind, side, and at different heights on the bags. The last portion, with lights off, is akin to the final lap of a race- shifting between bags, legs, and arms, combinations, forces change from 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 95%, called out at any moment by Ray. Speed, and changing momentum ensure a maximal workout. The texts set a belief that the gym affords a thoughtful, and caring approach. When texts ceased, I became dejected, canceled all but 4 classes in my 1st 3 weeks. My mindset went back to where it was, prior to ever contacting the gym. My desire to attend, and renew halted. Weight that quickly shed began to come back, from no exercise. It must be routine! What made the gym distinguished, and a unique inspiration departed abruptly. It’s disappointing on many levels, no fault to any fantastic instructor. A standard was set that no longer existed. Motivation, solely, must be my own. Self-inspired in other aspects of my life, it was eye-opening. Your mental health, is as important as your physical! Both are stigmatized in society. What I experienced, and learned from the superb training staff, is well worth the price of admission.

I purchased my classes with a groupon. I will say that your experience depends on who is teaching. I had an AMAZING time with Vera A. I highly recommend taking a class with her. As a beginner taking intro to pole, she was very fun, lively, and helpful. I felt challenged and confident leaving her class. Unfortunately she does not usually teach intro. I took 2 more classes with instructors i will not name but one complained majority of class how tired she was and it showed in her teaching. I felt that my other 2 classes were a waste of time and I could've been elsewhere. I will try another pole studio before returning.

The instructor checked me in, gave me no direction whatsoever, and made a snarky comment in front of the class when I told her my friend who also signed up could not make it. I felt very uncomfortable. Everyone was still warming up and personally I initially didn't feel very welcomed. My fellow classmate actually directed me to grab a band, etc. We did 3 typical exercises, no reps of them and then attempted head stands. That was it. I did not even touch the pole or lean a routine. I will say as class progressed the instructor was kind and did give tips on my headstand but again not what I expected on my intro to pole. I give 3 stars for atmosphere and appreciation for FF having a space for people to express themselves. However it won’t be me.

Wonderful community space. The facilities are clean, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the pool has all day availability for lap swimming, plus aqua classes. So grateful to have the Christian Street Y in my community!

This place is great! We usually go for swim lessons. It is more than a gym, it is more like a community center, with even a place to drop off your baby for an hour or two to exercise. (I rarely do reviews, but accidental taps while on maps gave it one star. I saw their sweet response which prompted me to fix the error immediately. They are awesome!)

Majority of children activities are all set forth and scheduled. So one need to be prepared to follow their schedule in order to part take in most children activities. This mainly includes but does not disclose GYM. For the children's physical activities which varies different age groups and schools I would assume. I always thought schools had their own GYM activities at their own location? Not sure, why they hosting entire after school programs there at the Y? Much has changed since I came up. I guess if you can meet their schedule and pay extra for some activities, you can make it work for you and your family. The experience was an enlighten one, on the down side. Children were expecting a nice swim. So disappointed they both became, no pool nor GYM for that day. Their first time interacting. They do have some out going staff there especially in the children's day care center. Takes time to get used to it and aline your schedule around theirs or pay to fit in. It's like this one pink rose my four year old Granddaughter nursed to life again. It had to adjust and fit in once it was given the proper nourishment and location. I simply thought it was time to dispense it? Move on, but my Granddaughter decided to deal with it keep going at it. After playing with it for two or three days. Moral of this story, give yourself some time. To adjust to their schedule and grow as you go alongside of other's. This way you can adjust as your family are being nurtured into different activities. Shalom.......
