Equipment is regularly broken or doesn't function proper (takes a long time to fix). They cannot seem to figure out how to file a purchase order to order more paper towels and disinfectant spray bottles for the gym floor (trust me, some people leave their benches covered in sweat). DirecTV also no longer carries ESPN or ABC, so the four channels that do work there, are pretty grim. And to top it off, base membership went from $9.99 to $19.99 ($24.99 I believe for new members now) so it makes you wonder where the hell they've allocated their revenue stream.

The locker room has carpeting, and thus, there is a really foul musty smell. There aren't any plans to remodel/remove, so just be prepared for the wonderful aroma. The gym is 22 years old. For the most part the equipment is decent. Some old cardio machines, but there are some newer ones as well. Weights and weight machines are decent, as well.

These is absolutely no reason this gym needs to advertise by stapling things to trees up and down California ave and on the 606 trail. The littering you guys have caused is disgusting. Do better.

I just started going to this gym. As a female member feeling comfortable, cleanliness and feeling safe is a top priority. Greeted by Vanessa, she is always welcoming and friendly. Making me feel at ease right from the moment I walk in. Her positive attitude sets a great tone for my workouts. She’s friendly and professional with me and other guests. The facility itself is always clean and well-maintained, which is something I really appreciate. The equipment is in great condition, and there's a good variety to choose from.

9/1/24 walked in and walked right out. Visible dirt and filth everywhere. No air conditioning. Handles of elypticsl were STICKY. went in locker room to wash my hands and it literally smelled like a city alley with dumpsters in there. Just condemn this place. What a shame. This gym brand and this location was the place to be in the 2000s. I used to live here back in the day. It was healthy, bright, well-attended. There is a reason there was only one other woman here besides me because this place is now disgusting.

It’s a bit of a maze to make your way around the 1st time. But it’s clean and modern (in terms of the equipment) for the most part. Staff was friendly enough. But space can be characterized as limited. My current experience here is limited to one cold, Sunday, in November. If I had to guess, I’d bet this place is going to be a zoo come January.

Been going to various YMCAs since I was a kid. Sometimes I try out the gyms but I always come back to the YMCA. Lakeview YMCA is no different. It's affordable, convenient, has a set of customers that are generally my speed, and it provides a good service to the community. The facilities are great. Lots of weight lifting and cardiovascular options, as well as basketball and racquetball courts. It has a great boxing gym and a nice pool.

I've been a YMCA member for a few weeks now. Overall I like the place for workouts. You get a nice discount for referrals and being at certain ages. The facility and equipment are old and have lost their shine, but they get the job done. Overall I haven't found a need for any more equipment. It's almost never too busy and I get to shoot around at the basketball court too. If you need a no thrills gym, then this is the place to go.

This location of the Y is incredibly convienent, affordable, and friendly. Their facilities although old, are very sufficient and offer all sorts of choices in excercise. I love to use their weight machines, cardio room (with 20+ treadmills), and their four lane indoor pool. This location is never too busy and always has the equipment I may want or need available to me. The other gym goers are kind & curteous. They also have excellent classes. I particularly love Lizzie’s spin class on Wednesday nights. She’s a great teacher!

This location is interesting. You can tell is older but it's also bigger than downtown and feels new in alot of ways. Here you have all the things you typically have at LA but also indoor dining track and some squash ball courts as well. It's a bit hard to find as it's tucked in the mall on the 7th floor. Beautiful views of the city though. And the machines can be taken up as is a busy location but still good.

I came from out of to paid to park went into the gym to find signs that Say no hot water, The pool is closed and other out of orders signs. There was a sense of complacency when I dressed management about it, but I understand there’s not much a floor manager can do. However, LA Fitness is derelict in their duty to provide a reputable and appropriate place to work out as their clients pay them for it is absolutely unacceptable to have a place that has this many issues and people pay you to have a different club experience. I wind up, leaving right back out after paying for parking Because I wanted to swim.

Super spacious even during peak hours. The variety of equipment is fantastic, good selection of cardio, strength training, or functional fitness options. Love the indoor running track. Never used the pool but good to have that as an option. Clean. Friendly and professional staff. Would highly recommend. Pic shows the running track window view in a sunny morning. Best way to start the day.

Went to this LA fitness to redeem the 3 days pass. When i approached the desk to the lady asked for my ID then proceeded to tell me how i can’t get the pass because it’s out of state even though there is nothing on the website about it. After that she ask had i been to LA fitness before which i stated when i was minor in 2009 before i had an ID. She then proceeds to say i can give you this day but i’m going to hold your id she did not bother to look at the email i received about the pass or even go over pricing with me as i was there to find a new gym to go to having just moved to the area (hence the out of state id). Safe to say i won’t be back it. Vibe was off from the jump cleanliness is lacking and staff seem to just want you to get out of there face as quickly as possible.

Decent variety of lifting equipment but that’s about it. Switched over to this gym when they abruptly closed the much nicer broadway location in Dec (made zero sense for them to close this location). Dirty locker rooms here and just a nasty facility overall that gets extremely busy. No basketball court either. Truly recommend going somewhere else.

I dont know why some ratings are low but it was my second day and I absolutely love it. I go super early and it does stay busy, but there’s always room for weight and cardio. Bathroom is super clean and the sauna is in great shape. Good lobby to get some work done as well. I am not a gym brat so I cannot go into super details but as someone who occasionally visits the gym to get some exercise done, this is worth all the money.

I will have a lot of the same things as other people. 1. Shower heads for over half the showers either didn't shut off or have enough pressure to do anything for about 5 months. 2. Men's locker room smells like mold. 3. When the AC goes out in the weight room, no one cares even if the temperature hits 80 and can take a week to do anything. 4. Cable machines need general maintenance, even just a little bit of grease, oil or something but many of the weights don't slide up and down glides easily. 5. You'll never find a staff member picking up anything. Garbage and weights can be left untouched for days. 6. There is no way to contact management. No business cards or contact info on websites 7. Steam and dry sauna doors are disgusting and haven't been cleaned in 8 months now. I wiped the dry sauna door once as it got so bad and I can tell they still haven't cleaned it.

I Walked in to get a tour not to work out was told that the membership person is not there until nine. I need to make an appointment. I asked if I could just be shown around so we don’t waste each other’s time she said that would be a $30 fee as a guest pass I told her I don’t wanna work out she said well it’s $30 and I said thank you but no thanks I think they need to realise that there are only reason that they are there is because we are there, and if we’re not there, there’s no reason for any of that staff to show up for work. I happened to enroll in this gym because it's very close to my house and LA fitness is a reliable brand but to my dismay this gym is not like other LA fitness gyms. The treadmills and other machines have rust marks on them which clearly show they need to be replaced. The yoga mats have completely flattened up and are even torn up around the edges. I never used the locker room so won't comment on that but the upper work out always smells muggy it needs proper ventilation and some air freshener. Plus the aerobics class area's light never stays lit when classes aren't happening and people try to work out on their own in that room. The spot of this gym is great so a revamp and good makeover will definitely make it appealing.

The environment at the gym is good but I only gave it three stars because the gym equipment stay dusty and dirty. I don't understand why the machines cannot be wiped down. I cannot get a good workout looking at dust flying up in my face.

I've been disappointed with the overall upkeep and management of this location. The gym is not well-maintained, and cleanliness is a real concern—there's always a weird odor coming from the men's locker room. The upstairs area feels unbearably hot due to poor ventilation, making workouts uncomfortable. Additionally, the gym frequently runs out of wipes for sanitizing equipment, which is frustrating. The staff also leaves much to be desired. They come across as untrained, unprofessional, and at times, outright rude. On top of that, my membership, which I had through my insurance, lapsed by accident. Shockingly, I was still allowed to check in for four months without anyone noticing that I was no longer a member.

The hours are absolutely awful, especially on the weekends. They need to be open 5-10 every days so that people who work weekends still have an opportunity to use their membership in the evenings when they get off - I don’t even get home until after 6 and can’t get to the gym until 7 at the earliest.

This would be my worst experience at LA fitness (Broadway) for the following reasons: 1. Worst Customer service - Very Unprofessional behaviour towards customers especially the dark skinned guy from evening shift with braided hair who needs to know manners first. If there was lower rating than 1 star I would have rated zero. 2. Poor quality of shower area and unhygienic washrooms. 3. Have noticed Treadmills with technical Issues and gliches. 4. Pool water was found to be old and dirty. 5. Staff is very unprofessional, unsupportive and failed to meet the expections of the customer service with lack of transparency. 6. Rude towards customer with unhelpful, rude, and aggressive behavior towards customer especially the dark skinned guy with braided hair who works in evening shift. 7. In accessiblity with providing enough options for new guests towards visting the gym. Addressing these issues I would request LA fitness to take a strict action on above mentioned concerns in order to keep their image, service quality and enhanced reputation unaffected, in order to keep their customers loyalty maintained towards LA Fitness.

One of the very few places in town (public or otherwise) that notices that active seniors exist. The senior center programming is comprehensive, and I LOVE the sitting yoga class I take. I wish they offered meditation and other classes that help people decompress. it is also a great source of information about activities in the neighborhood. The food did not pass my taste test.

No frills gym but the prices are very reasonable. Phillip and Jordan were helpful at the front desk and the BEST MASSEUSE works here. Aaron Hanna does the best soft tissue work and you go through the gym to get to his office. The gym is unique because it is in an old ballroom so there are literally chandeliers in the workout area!!! I want to check out swim lessons here for the kids 10 sessions for $70/hr!

Swimming classes with Pawel are AMAZING. Cannot recommend enough. Sign ups are like concert tickets - line up 30-60 minutes early on sign up days. That said, the classes are calm, predictable curriculum, and my diverse learner has thrived in these classes.

DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE TO BE CHARGED MONTHLY FOR A MEMBERSHIP YOU CANCELLED. Cancelled my membership due to an injury I sustained and I was charged 2 more months. Went in to discuss with staff because they don’t answer their phones. They offered to give me a 3 month credit - which I cannot use because I am injured - and I’m still getting charged!!! I’ve paid $300 to this crooked business after they told me my membership was canceled.

Been a member for a few months now. One of the best things about this gym is no sketchy shady contracts like I've encountered at other gyms. They were straight forward with pricing where you can do it month to month, up to annual up front, where longer terms will get you a bigger discount with a 30 day cancellation policy. Everyone who works there is friendly and it's pretty clean. There is a pool, and free towels. I haven't done the massage or any of the classes yet, but really like this gym.

Solid gym with older but high-quality equipment and plenty of machines and weights. The pool is well-maintained and the sauna is currently working after a time of disrepair. The staff is friendly enough but often can't answer questions or channel suggestions or requests - what you see is what you get. (Except the photos on the website. Some of that stuff is nothing like the actual club. Take with a grain of salt.) Very satisfactory club if your goal is exercise without frills.

Unfortunately, this was my least-friendly interaction I’ve had since moving to Chicago a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been looking for a new gym since I got here, and realized there was a gym within walking distance which was perfect. After trying to call repeatedly to get no answer or ability to leave a message, I decided to just walk down to the gym. When we got to the doors, they were both locked. There were people standing just inside the door, and we saw that there was a buzzer, so we pressed it. The person that answered the door stood in the doorway and with the snarkiest tone possible said “can I help you guys?” When I said we had just come by to check out the gym, we got another sour-faced response “do you have an appointment?” No. We didn’t. Mainly, because no one answered the phone when we called. It’s ok, there are plenty of gyms in Chicago. This one apparently doesn’t need my money, so I’ll take it elsewhere.

Great staff, clean facility. It’s on the smaller side but there’s plenty of equipment that can be modified for a more dynamic workout. They provide a very friendly atmosphere as well. My only gripe is the music. It’s really unbearable at times. Typically at a gym you have something upbeat and motivating, but they be playing the most random and weird stuff. Not an issue with headphones of course, but if you don’t have any or want to workout with someone else the music is really distracting, when you’re trying to lock into the zone and maximize your workout. That play folk, country, and just music you don’t expect at a gym because it doesn’t push you. Maybe not a big deal for others but it’s noticeable to me every visit.

This gym is one of the best I've been to in Chicago -> Dan and the rest of the team keep this place spotless, and it is never too crowded which is a nice change from some of the other gyms in the area. As an added perk, you can pop to the Anytime on Broadway (or other locations around the city!). Absolutely recommend for those looking to join a friendly, clean and convenient gym.
