One Star – Do Not Recommend I have been a member of the 4300 King Street, Alexandria, VA location (formerly Export Fitness) for quite some time, and since LA Fitness took over in late August or early September of last year, this gym has gone completely downhill. When I originally signed up, we had access to a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, fully functional equipment, and an escalator for accessibility. Since the takeover, nearly everything has either been shut down or fallen into complete disrepair. • The swimming pool and jacuzzi have been permanently closed. • The sauna and steam room are non-functional. • Most of the gym equipment is broken and has not been repaired. • The escalator does not work, making it extremely difficult for members with disabilities to access the upper level. • The facility is unsanitary and poorly maintained. • Staff members are incredibly rude and dismissive, with no regard for customer concerns. Many members, including myself, have repeatedly contacted management, but they are completely unresponsive and show zero accountability for the worsening conditions. It is clear they do not care about their paying members. At this point, LA Fitness is charging for services that they are not providing, which is deceptive and potentially a violation of consumer protection laws. The fact that their Google reviews are filled with one-star complaints should tell you everything you need to know. Unless drastic changes are made immediately, I strongly advise avoiding this gym and taking your business elsewhere. If you are already a member, I suggest filing a complaint or pursuing a chargeback through your credit card provider. LA Fitness – Do better.

‼️‼️Read this before you sign up for a membership here‼️‼️ Parking: 3/5 Air Quality: 2/5 Crowd and Availability of Machines: 3.5/5 Cleanliness: 2/5 Variety of Machines: 4/5 Timing: 2/5 Maintenance: 1.5/5 Cardio Equipment: 4/5 Strength Training: 3.5/5 Studios: 3/5 Basketball Court: 2/5 Wi-Fi: 0/5 Pool: 2/5 Spa: 2/5 Locker Room/Washrooms: 1/5 Overall okay but not great. However, I do love the wide variety of upper and lower body machines, which are much better than what you’ll find at the Fairfax and Merrifield locations. Parking: 3/5 The parking process is a bit of a hassle. You need to get a ticket from the machine at the entrance, park on Level C, and validate it at the gym’s front desk. Forget to validate? You’ll end up paying for parking. On the plus side, there’s plenty of space. Air Quality: 1.5/5 The air quality isn’t great—it feels like you’re in an underground subway station, which makes working out less enjoyable. Crowd and Availability of Machines: 4/5 One of the perks of this location is that it’s less crowded, so finding available machines is easy. Cleanliness: 2/5 Cleanliness is lacking. Not surprising for a large chain, but it could definitely improve. Variety of Machines: 4/5 The gym has a wide variety of machines spread over three floors, which is one of its best features. Maintenance: 1.5/5 Maintenance is terrible. Since LA Fitness took over, broken machines sit for months without being repaired. Cardio Equipment: 4/5 They have a good selection of cardio equipment in decent condition. Strength Training: 3.5/5 Strength training options are solid, though some equipment could use better maintenance. Studios: 3/5 The gym offers three studios for group training, which is nice to have. Basketball Court: 2/5 The court is okay, but nothing special. Wi-Fi: 0/5 There’s no Wi-Fi, which is frustrating, especially since it was removed after LA Fitness took over. Pool: 2/5 The pool has been drained and hasn’t been fixed since, which is disappointing. Spa: 2/5 The spa is there, but it’s not worth getting excited about. Timing: 2/5 They used to be 24 hours, but they changed the timing to something weird, and now there are no more flexible timings. Locker Room/Washrooms: 1/5 These are nasty and poorly maintained—definitely the worst part of the gym. In summary, this gym has a lot of potential, especially with its variety of machines and spacious setup. But the poor maintenance, cleanliness, and lack of Wi-Fi really drag it down.

This new management has no idea how to fix anything. Basically they adjusted the 24 hour policy. They drained the pool out of laziness of maintaining it. The men’s bathroom lights have been out for weeks because management didn’t get any training on how to fix a light bulb. Don’t bother with this gym anymore, it was decent under xsport but it’s trash now like the managers that run this place. Don’t expect functioning equipment here.

Now they are LaFitness gym and they don't care about the gym. The front desk can not respond to basic question about my membership, they just say you need to came back when the service member is available.

First time at this gym. 1/2 parking garages worked (but a very friendly staff - not being sarcastic - helped me find the 2nd entrance. The pool is drained. The kids corner has toys but is permanently closed. They have a spa, but don’t think think those are active? (Could be wrong). 1/4 elevators worked. Equipment varied from old to very old/dangerous and a couple of really good pieces. One of the machines broke while I was using it (literally). The basketball court actually was really nice. It said “members only…not sure if it’s accessible - no one was using it). Almost 100% of the stuff still said xSport even though it’s LA Fitness… Over 1/4 the lights not working or flickering. All of the historical amenities (pool, spa, elevators, lights and broken equipment, broken showers etc.) gave it an almost post-apocalyptic zombie vibe… So as long as you stay in the actually lit areas and find some of the machines that actually work, it’s might be acceptable for you? Would recommend they remove the VERY old equipment (talking completely broken and outdated equipment away before a lawsuit happens). They had a really nice small personal training area where the lights worked and machines looked like they probably worked - but again only available with personal trainers. But the difference in lighting between that area and the other areas was staggering. This gym made me like the 1st LA fitness that I didn’t initially really like a whole lot more. Also, google reviews are not 1/1 (of course). Other local LA fitnesses gave a 1 star and said that they didn’t have people there at 5am. Another LA fitness 1 star review said that sometimes had to rerack weights. Here the biggest thing is safety health and overall zombie apocalypse vibe. Do yourself a favor and when you look at Google reviews for this place, do most recent sort function to view how it is currently (vast majority 1 star reviews over the past few months). Trying to be kind and giving it a 2 star review for the basketball court and large area. And other reviews said it would undergo renovations. So it might be nice one day? Well…good news is that if there’s a renovation justification based upon need, I think it’ll be VERY easy to identify which local gym is most in need of a renovation. Just hope that when/if a renovation occurs, they’ll maintain it. It’s also interesting because it appears management leaves replies when you leave a high review (there was one a couple months ago!), but no comments on non-5 star reviews. Not the worst, but just can be indicative of accepting less-than standards.
