Best Gym near Garland, Texas

The scenic views, well-maintained pathways, and serene atmosphere make it perfect for a leisurely stroll or a peaceful picnic. The playground is a hit with kids, and the open spaces are great for various activities. While it's generally clean and well-kept, some areas could use more frequent maintenance. Overall, a great spot to unwind and enjoy nature in the heart of the city.

I went to here to play tennis with my friends around 7:30, and was going to leave at 9:30. I presumed that the courts would be lit as it specified on the website. Come around 8:30 where it was dark out, there were no lights on. It was an ok place to play tennis at. The bounces were a little dead with fresh balls, but it was manageable. Not sure if it is common knowledge that they aren't lit up anymore, but it was my first time here, and it was not a good experience. If you are planning to go play tennis into the night, go to another "lighted" tennis court like the ones at Webb Middle School.

My kids enjoyed playing on the playground. There was a lot of trash cans around, but trash was all over the grass. There was also a person sitting at a picnic table near the playground yelling, cursing and telling us to leave. She left after about 10 min. I don't feel safe taking my kids to play here which is unfortunate as it's the closest playground to our home.

It was amazing it was a lot of shaded areas for the children to play I don't know if it's because of the pandemic but there were no children no one out there on this particular day however but grandchild enjoyed herself and so did I I would recommend anyone to go to this Park 🏞️ and enjoy themselves

Very nice clean park City of Garland has always taken very good care of its parks Bradfield Park has a lot to offer everyone.. Baseball creek tennis soccer basketball recreation with classes and a indoor area and a play ground area for the kids and let's not forget the 12 foot pool and slide!!!

We love, love, love D1 and the coaches!! My 2 boys (5 and 7) attend the rookie class and have so much fun. Coach Anna is great with them (and their high energy)! I also love that I get to workout while the boys are having fun. Coach Ashley and Coach Star are amazing! They even let my little join in and get some energy out! 100% recommend D1 Firewheel.

I just want to warn anyone that might be thinking about joining D1 Training….DO NOT!!! I started bring my 2 girls there in June 2024. July we were told that new management was coming that following Monday. I show up Monday no one there lights off doors locked. No explanation try reaching out to D1 no response for about 2-3 weeks. Finally we get a call stating that their new management and they will be starting class back up and that we would have the weeks missed added to the end of the contract. Well everything was fine until December 12 when I get a text message telling me classes were canceled. I called and spoke with Corey and he stated that the facility was going to be closing for renovations. I already knew something was up. The space is small what more can they do to it. Well, he told me that we will be getting an email from corporate about what going on and that we will be getting refunds. I did receive an email from corporate that Sunday night telling me another lie about what they’re doing and how they plan to reopen in 6 weeks but that we were going to be getting a refund by the end of the week. That was December 15 and today is Jan 16 and I still have yet to receive anything from D1. I have sent emails with no response. I called the Frisco location which is were Corey from Firewheel D1 went to. He told me that refunds had been refunded, but after talking to some the other clients that also attended D1 Firewheel they have not yet received their refund either. I’ve reached out to corporate no response the number for corporate on the website for immediate assistance goes straight to voicemail. I really thought highly of D1 the trainers were all great. But, the owners they don’t care about us. They only care about lining their pockets.

My kid is loving this place. Although there was a hiccup with trainers and lack of communication last week, it really has been great for my boy. He is excited to go to class and get better. Only complaint is that it is uncomfortable inside as airflow doesn’t appear to be happening. I do recommend though.

Working out at D1 Firewheel felt like home. I got to make some really cool connections with the other clients and the coaches. The coaches helped me create a new lifestyle for myself with consistency, hard work, and motivation which in turn made my stressful day-to-day a lot smoother. Then, the rug was pulled from under us, the clients and coaches. And now because of upper management, we all lost that. It is very disappointing. They blinded sided us my closing abruptly and notified us that we would be getting a refund on our December membership. To date, January 2, 2025, almost a month later, I have not received said refund. I have emailed multiple times and called and have not received a response. Again, I am disappointed with how this was and is being handled. Understandably, things happen but having accountability and respect for your clients should be taken seriously.

Love this place! The coaches are the best. Very positive and encouraging and upholding high standards. My girl is getting stronger and faster in the homeschool class which is at a great time for our family.

When the most basic issues are left to flounder and continue, what else could possibly be wrong? 9 sinks in the men’s dressing & restroom. Only one with soap. Only ONE! You have to assume every surface you touch has been and will be touched someone else. Did we learn nothing with the pandemic a couple of years ago?! Basic hygiene is paramount to contain the spread of any virus. No TP in 3 restroom stalls, one out of 9 sinks with soap. This place is a breeding ground for anything communicable. Correction, EVERYTHING. Week after week, it’s the same. This is basic stuff! Prospective members…USE AT YOUR OWN HEALTH RISK!

I had set up a 3-day guest pass, so I could checkout this location specifically for the swimming pool. Due to a health condition, swimming is the best exercise I can do for my COPD. I went to take a tour on Thursday 08/22 anticipating to utilize the pool. Unfortunately it was closed for cleaning. I was told that by the following Sunday the pool would be ready. I said I'd give it an extra day and come in on Monday 08/26. It wasn't until The 28th that I was feeling strong enough to come in and activate my 3 Day pass. The pool was still unavailable! I don't/can't just jump in the car and run an errand. Lung capacity makes it difficult causing major exhaustion and fatigue that can wipe me out for 1-2 days. That's why swimming is so good for me. It helps strengthen the lungs while being zero impact. Sadly to say but the young man who assisted me on my very first visit, made it painfully obvious that getting me into a membership was his only purpose for talking with me.

I have been to many LA Fitness locations as a member for 8 years and this is by far the worst location I’ve been to and I drive further just to avoid going to this location. The stair stepper machines are almost always broke and usually don’t even have signs saying they are out of order. People don’t put weights back or wipe down the equipment. There bathrooms aren’t clean. I don’t understand how their cardio machines on the first floor are almost always broken and their management doesn’t do anything about it.

Good gym and all but make sure you get a notification for cancelling because they will tell you they got you cancelled only to find out you still getting charged later on. Then when you actually do cancel they won’t help you on any refunds for their mistake. Wack

I’ve been coming here for the past few months and have been really enjoying the facilities and training. My trainer Nancy has been phenomenal and is helping me achieve my goals. The turf section is my favorite and the machines are top notch.

Seen Jess usually working out in the morning. Now she works here. Very helpful with my account and welcoming. Glad she’s part of the team -that Mexican guy!!!

Wow, what a great gym. I’ve been dropping in at a lot of different planet fitness gyms and this one hands-down has the most TVs and the most running elliptical treadmill exercise devices than any of them that I’ve seen. Maybe it’s just the way it’s laid out but it looks huge really awesome. Not crowded at all even during peak hours. They do have the 30 minute workout zone that seems to be pretty updated and nice. They do have the updated stretching areas with abdominal and hip machines which is really great. Also, probably the most machines I’ve seen out of all the gyms I’ve been to for planet fitness. The facility was very clean and it looks like it’s been here for a little while some of the equipment was older style, but very functional and very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The energy drinks and waters are as it should be not expired clean And fair priced. The Jim location is just right off of a Kroger‘s and off of two major roads with an abundance amount of parking due to it being attached to so many other businesses makes it easy to find a parking spot and not have to park your vehicle where it’s not visible from the gym. The restrooms were very clean and up-to-date showers seem like they have been updated newer type doors not just a drapery hanging and the locker room was very clean plenty of lockers all in all just a nice bathroom and locker area better than a lot of others. The only downfall I found was that the black card spa area was closed due to renovations, but I’m sure they’ll have that up and going as quick as possible and I look forward to coming back and checking that out. All in all one of the nicer and bigger planet fitness gyms I’ve been to Definitely worth a dropping in if you’re in the area.

Update: now being charged 3X what my membership was and being held hostage that “we don’t cancel memberships by email or phone, you have to drive here and cancel or mail us a letter”. I never agreed to pay $92/mo! My membership was $35!!! My Texas Family Fitness membership was transferred to Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness has no childcare offering, which is not at all the SAME as the services I had at Texas Family Fitness. Because the personal training sessions were predicated on me being able to pick up my daughter from school and take her with me. So, I called. Because I had invested $500 in personal training sessions I didn't receive (the "new manager / scheduling coordinator" was new, and then she was out of town and then she was in training - but I wouldn't lose them! GUESS WHAT) and then there was the membership fee I was charged on 12/15...the notification my club was closed came on? 12/16. 12/17 we were notified by Planet Fitness (and this is the one I was unfortunately transferred to - not the one closest to me, as I was promised) that our memberships were virtually the same. And then there was a note at the bottom: No childcare of any sort is provided. Then, I can't use it. So, I called. The billing people had "no idea" what was going on, but they'd get back to me. 12/31, I was charged again. Um, hello, for what? So, I called again today 1/2, and spoke to someone who basically told me Texas Family Fitness doesn't exist as an entity, and (wait for it): 1 - my contract allows them to just start charging me for the Planet Fitness membership (fine print, supposedly, according to the rep) 2 - they can't do anything for me, all I can do is dispute my CC charge (for the personal training I never received) 3 - I can't cancel my membership to the FACILITY I NEVER SET FOOT IN w/o going to that club's location and terminating my membership on site. WOW. Here you go, friends, don't you just want to run right out and be a member, now?

Up until Texas Family Fitness in Garland closed, I would not discover Planet Fitness. I like TFF, that's why I stayed w/ them for 5 yeads. But PF is amazing, it's so comfortable, bright & lots of better machines. Staff are wonderful. I'm starting to enjoy & feel comfortable.

Most unprofessional planet fitness location i've been to. Planet fitness charges me twice a month and then some months it charges me late im not sure what's up with the system anyway long story short employees asked me to pay before my workout or else i can't work out. young lady at the front desk lets me workout anyway then a young man kicks me out minutes later i've been with planet fitness for years and they had never treated me like this till today at this location

I had some issues at first, but after contacting the gym Andrew and Danny helped me. I came in person and they explained stuff better. Chill atmosphere.

Battle Axe Barbell is the best strength gym in Garland! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed with the atmosphere. The gym is clean, spacious, and has everything you need to get a great workout—whether you’re training for strength, conditioning, or just staying fit. The equipment is top-notch, especially the custom-built barbells and racks, making it clear that this gym is designed by people who understand what athletes need. It’s got everything from heavy-duty squat racks to a great selection of dumbbells and Olympic lifting platforms. The owners are amazing. They’re friendly, knowledgeable, and always available for advice or guidance, which makes for a welcoming environment, especially if you're new to lifting or trying to level up your training. But what really sets Battle Axe Barbell apart is the community. Everyone is so supportive, whether you’re an experienced powerlifter or just starting your fitness journey. The energy in this gym is unbeatable, and it’s always motivating to see others pushing themselves to be better.

BAB is the place to be if you want to get strong and stay strong. It has a huge range of equipment for any kind of strength training. It is approachable for people starting out and can push those who are training for competitions. Owners are awesome and on it with keeping it clean and up to date and bringing in new equipment. A huge bonus is the experienced trainers to work with.

Ive visited this gym a handful of time and have even competed in a strongman competition here. It's a pretty awesome gym, has everything you would need for powerlifting and strongman and then some. Great community, great equipment, and the owners are super nice and helpful.

The place is not bad but the staff they’re not all great. I had three different Instances where things were missing in the locker room the first time they just took random things such as shampoo towel, etc. so when that happened, I did notify an employee there. They were just surprised and they didn’t mention anything about any general rules or protocols that they have to do daily the second time it was something as simple as a towel again so I didn’t think nothing of it, but I did ask an employee a different one is stealing common in this gym and they replied no, but you can always get a lock and I said do I have to buy or rent out A locker and they replied no you just bring a lock again didn’t mention anything about a protocol or any rules on a 24 hour locker usage this third time I had an emergency surgery that cost me to be gone for five days stuck in a hospital and the first day out, I went to go get my things out of the locker but when I got there, there was no lock and nothing inside when I ask the associate which happened to be the manager, she said we have a 24 hour clean out your locker rule and I told her I had things in there and she said well typically we put them in a bag for you and we keep them in the front so she looked and she gave me a black bag and I was OK with that on my way to the car I decided to check the bag and my headphones were missing. Now I know three hundred dollar headphones are probably just a materialistic thing but it’s the principal of the fact that nobody told me about this role after multiple times of my things going missing. It’s also messed up how apparently employees are picking and choosing items that they find in the lockers or take out in the lockers and imagine how many people don’t know about this role and just assume someone stole their stuff . So going back inside to this location I let the manager know that I’m missing my headphones and she seem to just look for them and not find them. They later told me that I had to wait for them to look at the cameras and then they’ll call me back hopefully by Thursday, which is 30 January 2025 and they didn’t take long to call me the following day Which was 28 January 2025 and I do appreciate the promptness and they told me we found your headphones. You can come pick them up mind you I don’t live close to this location cause I had just moved. I went there because I enjoyed going there at 5 AM every day so when I went today, January 29, 2025 I asked the manager who happen to be the same lady who helped me out to find the black bag with my things in it if I can get the name of the employee that they caught on camera taking my Headphones home so that I can complain on them she said no, and she said that they’ve been verbally spoken to to not touch anybody else’s things which I think is so unfair because if you have someone that’s a thief as an employee is crazy so as any customer would I replied with so they just get off with a verbal warning is there anyway that you guys can compensate me maybe pay a month or a couple off of this membership for the trouble that I went through not to mention there’s still some items I didn’t get from the first two times And she said she has to ask so she went into the back had a conversation with I don’t know who came back out and said no I asked for a corporate number. She didn’t have one. She said you can just go online and take a survey for a company that is very large. That is very known. You’re telling me I can’t contact an actual corporate office to express my concerns. i’m just very upset about the experience that was provided at this location. I am on a weight loss journey so I decided to keep the membership. I will be changing home base for planet fitness you need to do better. Your employees need to do better because at this location, it looks like they’re just taking things when people aren’t going and the employees choose and pick what they want and then put the rest in a freaking bucket until they ask or at least let it be known with getting a Membership all the rules

Good club and close by. The object of the game when you want to start or go back to the gym is accessibility to the gym so there are as few reasons not to go.... Emily the manager always greets her members which always is pleasant. Rates are good Get your speakers and let s go! It would be nice though if the front desk would say good morning and have a nice day instead of talking to the other front desk agents

Great place to work out! Never to busy always equipment free to use. Cleanest gym I've ever been in. Staff very friendly. Only thing it needs is more free weights! Would give five stars with more free weights. Definitely getting there. New calf seated calf machine.

The place and equipment are always clean. Most of the staff is nice and friendly. Sometimes, they have problems with their wifi and internet system. But it's not a big deal. Oh and they just got new bigger equipment!! Awesome! Loving their growth. No judgment zone! 😁

I really enjoy this gym. There are plenty of machines and all seem to be in really good working condition. They have a separate area for women to work out in. The locker room and restroom, shower area is always clean. I am not in the best of body shape but I never feel out of place or discriminated against here. I have quit other gyms because of the way the staff made me feel about my body. If you need extra help on learning how to work one of their machines , they are always enthusiast about showing you. I encourage anyone looking for a gym to join this place is awesome.

I love this gym! The equipment is wonderful! Lots of space. All the staff is amazing... especially Izzamar (sp?)! She is so sweet and helpful! Massage chairs and tanning/red light booths are great. The ONLY problem I have with this gym is that the A/C either doesn't work or is not turned down enough. It is miserably hot in there. While I love everything else about it, the heat is bad enough that I am considering switching gyms. Being that hot while working out makes me feel sick and also makes it a LOT harder to overlook other people's poor gym etiquette. 😬 If they get the A/C fixed, this will be my favorite gym in Garland! Update: Thank you so much for your response. I look forward to your remedy. I will update my review accordingly. When I went back today, the temperature at the back of the gym was 84.6 degrees and 76.6 at the front of the gym. I know that IFA guidelines, which are based on recommendations from OSHA and the American College of Sports Medicine, state that a gym should be no warmer than 68 degrees in aerobics, cardio, weight training, and Pilates areas to avoid "overtaxing the cardiovascular system, which can lead to dangerous physiological conditions." I feel confident the good people at Retro Fitness did not intend for things to get this out of hand. I hope it's cooler when I return on Monday! Update 2: It's been a couple of weeks now, and it is every bit as hot as it was when I made this post, if not worse. Everyone is complaining about it. Girls are sick in the locker room because of the heat. My friend was going to get a membership here, but it's so hot, she has decided to go to Planet Fitness. Update 3: Unfortunately, Retro's idea of addressing the problem seems to be waiting until the temperatures outside go down. This has continued to be a miserably hot workout making me dread the gym and how sick I feel when I am in there. I guess I will have to go elsewhere to get safe, healthy workouts. I'm so disappointed.

1-4-25, I arrived at 8:15 in the morning and no one was here.The doors were locked.I waited here until eight forty five no one showed up. There was no note on the door so wondering why no one was here to unlock the gym. The weekend attitude here seems to be very low.A lot of times the cleaning supplies are empty the people.Or I should say person working at the counter seems very disengaged.

Coming from Texas family to retro!! I want to say retro is a great gym full of positive energy everyone focused on their own stuff and to me it’s really never packed packed there will always be a machine available Love it !! Not going anywhere

Love the equipment and variety of stuff in the gym. My problem with the gym is the bathroom is always trashed on the weekends. No one cleans. It's always out of toilet paper, soap to wash hands. The paper towels or cleaner to clean off equipment at some of the cleaning stations are out. No one polices the gym. Weights are never put back to where they go, or bars and machines are left with weights for the next person to take off. 99% of the time the employees never leave the front desk. Mostly they are on their phone. This is supposed to be a family gym but I constantly see people coming in with obscene words on their clothes. Lots of people with their cameras set up and sometimes in the way. Lately I've seen peole with their shirt completely off. None of the patrons get called out on violations of the rules the gym has posted.

I came to retro fitness cause it was closer than my home gym Fitness connection in mesquite. So glad I made the change. It’s so clean, machines are new and love the amenities- red light therapy, tanning and massage. The staff has been friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this gym to anyone in Garland area.

I love The Tactical Gym. I've been doing nutrition and bodybuilding with Joaquin and Adriana for over a year now and love them both. They are super knowledgeable and stay in amazing shape themselves. There is a wide variety of equipment in the gym and I can always get in there and get out quickly without fighting the crowd of the normal commercial gym goers. Everybody is respectful of your belongings and your space! 5 days a week you'll see me in there! 🖤

Great gym!! This place has everything you need to get in shape. I would describe this place as a serious, no frills, gym for anyone, regardless of where you are on your fitness journey, who wants to get fit. Unlike other gyms, they aren't selling you on fancy locker rooms, unnecessary juice bars, or tanning beds that you'll probably never use. They have all the lifting, cardio, stretching, and HIIT equipment you could need. Come in, work hard, go home. I love it!! The staff is extremely friendly and from what I've seen very willing and capable to help if you need it. Definitely would recommend this gym!

This gym is absolutely amazing. The staff is kind, friendly, and always ready to help. I was visiting town for a graduation, and the team at "The Tactical Gym" provided me with a 2-day pass. I was able to complete my workouts, pay my dues in sweat, and knock out my burpees because Jocko told me to LOL. I even had the opportunity to meet the owner and engage in some great conversations about our time in the service. Overall, I am eagerly looking forward to returning. You guys are incredible! Amazing fitness club chain! I’ve been a member for over three years, hitting up locations in Chicago, Florida, Boston, and Austin without a hitch. But leave it to Dallas—on my very first visit, someone swiped my sneakers from under the bench while I was in the shower 🤣. Cheers to the lucky new owner! Still, 5 stars for the club—top-notch as always, even if my sneakers have moved on to a better life 😆

I love this place. The trainers are friendly and knowledgeable. Equipment is well taken care of. Facility always very clean. They regularly invest back into improving the facility. Just today they were repairing and/or replacing several weight machines and they are in process of construction of the steam room. This building has been around for many years however feels modern. I feel the price is fair for the cleanliness, constant improvement, amenities, and staff. Opening at 4 am on weekdays is a major plus as well.

We've been members here since 2005. Great employees, equipment, lockerooms, pool area, etc. everything is clean and organized and well looked after. This is definitely a top tier gym. I recommend this place .
