Isolated, lacking in quality, and distinctly unwelcoming to outsiders, this gym is a testament to the challenges of existing in a place that clings to a narrow status quo. Upon entering the facility, one is greeted with a mediocre array of equipment and machines that, at best, can be described as decent. There is nothing remarkable or state-of-the-art here, merely the bare minimum required to scrape by. The equipment's condition only reinforces the sense of neglect that pervades the entire establishment. The water quality at the gym is a particular concern. The water from the fountain has a strange taste, confirmed by a member of the facilities team to be of poor quality. This unsettling fact makes it difficult to stay hydrated during workouts and is indicative of deeper issues within the campus infrastructure. The gym's bathroom situation is another major drawback. With only one multi-purpose bathroom located all the way at the entrance and another outside, it is inconvenient and inadequate. The lack of separate men's and women's restrooms or locker rooms is highly unusual and impractical for a facility of this nature. This setup leaves much to be desired and suggests a lack of consideration for the users' needs. For visitors, the experience is even more disheartening. Unlike other universities that provide visiting staff with keycards for easy access, Dickinson College fails to extend this basic courtesy. As a result, I found myself knocking on the door and waiting for a staff member to let me in, a process that varied wildly in reception. Some staff members were polite and welcoming, while others were shockingly rude and dismissive. The inconsistency was jarring and left a lasting negative impression. The Kline Fitness Center at Dickinson College is an embodiment of the broader issues within the college and the town itself. With outdated equipment, poor water quality, inadequate bathroom facilities, and a generally unwelcoming atmosphere, there is little to commend about this gym. For those who value a supportive and well-equipped fitness environment, this facility falls woefully short. My advice: avoid this gym, avoid this college, and, if possible, avoid this city. The few good people around here don't make up for the majority of stares, glares, insulting attitudes, and open insults.
