I visited the rock wall during my spare time during a conference, it was a lot of fun (if you are a visitor read the bottom note)! The kids that work at the climbing area are really nice. Plus, the best thing is that they belay for you, so feel free to visit solo. They have a nice variety of routes and wall that are well rated for beginners and experienced climbers such as myself. The bouldering area is also awesome, you'll find climbs from ~V0 - V7. Highly recommend as a student or visitor. Note: if visiting with a group you'll need special access, so get in touch with the Eppley Rec Center staff by email to arrange this before you arrive.

Gym is ok. More weight equipments would be appreciated considering the gym sells membership to the community as well. Parking costing $4/hr isn’t very fair, however, for those from the community to come use the gym (that we also pay for, on top of an alumni membership). There should be a special monthly parking discount for those who already have a gym membership. Capitalism is too alive and well at UMD.

For these reasons, just give it 2 stars: - Parking is tricky. Parkings are either expensive or too far from the gym even for the students. - Lots of people working out there do not take shower on a daily basis, so bad odor is noticeable and repelling. - Lots of cases people just come and hop in between your sets and take the machine or the dumbbells even though you’ve put your stuff nearby. - There are a decent number of machines, but not a good variety of machines. Only one smith machine for example. - The main fitness room doesn’t have mirrors and the interior lighting isn’t proper. - Fitness rooms are kinda far from each other, makes it challenging for performing supersets. Overall, unless you’re a UMD student and work out on and off, it’s not worth of spending. I’m a student here and don’t use gym.

Update 12/21 I just come to hoop but it wasnt a lot of space for basketball like it usually was. There are volleyball nets at mid court and they are stationed there. Also in the other gym they moved workout equipment in there taking up the basketball court. Other than that its only $7 for a day pass and they have other things you can find in the pictures. Satisfied but couldve been better if the courts were open for full court. I love this rec center its always bump on the basketball courts and if i need to work out or go for a swim then i can do that in the same building then get back to the gym and get back on the court.
