I like most planet fitness locations. I had no issues with this location until today. My headphones died and because everyone uses their headphones I was playing my music at a low level. A staff came by and ruined my workout. Saying in the past members have complained. But when I asked if someone recently complained he was dismissive. If no one else cares why does he? That racist vibe people talk about in Boston. I see you white gay man who works here with the black hair. You could have been nice but instead you chose to be extra. And then proceeded to follow me to what? Ensure I didn't play it again. The caucasity!

I had a horrible experience I called and asked ahead of time if the gym would be open on Monday for 24 hours and they said yes. When I arrived I saw nothing but a locked door with nobody in it very frustrating I wasted money on an Uber going there and then I had to pay money to get back home and I didn’t even get to work out that is very frustrating. Never going back here again

The people who work here are nice, but they really need to figure out a better ventilation system for the place, in particular the downstairs area. There is consistently a terrible odor throughout the entire weight area and the air feels just overall unpleasant.

Excellent gym. Lots of free weights and smith machines. I went twice on biz trip to Boston and found this location to be clean and stacked with well maintained machines. First floor was loaded with cardio machines. Highly recommend. Keep in mind I showed up around 830am-930am so can’t speak to off hours. Great job planet fitness!

This is by far the worst gym I’ve been to. The location is good, the equipment was recently renewed but the locker room is so unsafe and is not clean, lots of broken locker that had been forced. And there always a smell like sweat or something who knows what. I would never take a shower there. Good thing they have several cleaning station all over the work out floor so can clean machines before and after you use them

For a workout before workday, the door is always open on time. Considering the large number of people, the work-out room and locker room are clean and well maintained. And there is rarely an unreasonable wait for weights. All credit goes to the staff. They are always friendly and courteous. While it doesn't adversely affect a workout, the lower level has low ceilings, and they didn't have a large budget for mirrors. Still a good workout experience at a great price

I got a good value out of my membership, and only cancelled because I moved to an area where there are no Planet Fitness locations. The membership fee and monthly cost was very fair, and the facility itself was well-equipped and regularly cleaned. I have no complaints at all!

I’ve had a very disappointing experience at Planet Fitness on Newbury Street and feel obligated to share my recent encounter with their management. When I signed up, I provided two payment methods—my debit card for the standard $10 monthly fee and my credit card for the startup charge. To my surprise, I discovered that for the past three months I’d been billed $30 each month, an unexpected $20 more than agreed upon. When I contacted the club, they claimed there was an issue with my bank account and that they had the right to charge my credit card and apply late fees without my explicit consent or even a courtesy notification. Despite my attempts to understand and resolve the matter, the club’s response was largely to push the responsibility back onto me. I ended up with $60 in extra fees before I even knew what was happening. Initially, the staff agreed to a $40 refund, which felt like a step in the right direction. However, upon following up, the promised refund seemed to evaporate, and suddenly I was told I’d only receive $20 back. I requested an escalation process to address this, but was informed there’s no further avenue since it’s a franchise location. The lack of transparency and accountability was extremely frustrating. What bothers me most isn’t just the money—it’s the dismissive attitude, the shifting promises, and the sense that resolving a simple billing matter was simply not a priority. In a neighborhood as well-regarded as Newbury Street, it’s disheartening to encounter such poor customer support and confusing billing practices. I truly hope this location takes steps to improve its communication, consistency, and overall respect for its customers. Until then, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your fitness needs.

It seems I'm always informing the staff of clogged showers and they're not getting fixed?? I literally told them the week before and the week before that the showers are clogged. I don't understand why this has been a recurring problem for the two years I've been a member at this gym. I stood in dirty water because all of the showers weren't draining and then got a rash infection pretty immediately (which I thought may be mosquito bites in the gym) but then realized it was a breakout on my ankle two nights ago. I'm disgusted and disturbed. I don't want to review this planet fitness so poorly, as they're conveniently located and generally a clean, organized, and friendly gym but they take forever to take care of issues in the women's locker room.

Lots of good equipment. Never really crowded. A year ago I posted how clean this is. Something changed big time. The lower level is just filthy. I’m so sad to see it’s not being cleaned. There is trash and papers everywhere and dirt/dust under the machines and on the edges of the walls. This is very obviously not just a days worth of dirt and trash. I tried to find a way to message the manager or owner , but couldn’t figure it out so I thought I would just post here as I know they check reviews. Hopefully someone will push staff to clean. Thank you for the response. I will reach out to management. But, if you take an unexpected tour yourself, or want numerous photos, let me know. I am not just nit-picking. This is 180° from last year.

If you are considering coming to this location, please read these reviews and strongly reconsider. I have been a member here since pre-COVID, and the culture and overall cleanliness make this location feel like a low-tier gym. The male room has continued to smell malodorous (as noted by other reviews) with a cadre of regular creeps sleuthing between the sauna and steam room. I attempted to file a complaint about patrons walking around *barefoot* in the weights and stretching area. According to the desk staff, this is permitted in their policy, despite being labeled “gross.” I will not pay >$200 / mo to see people walking around the gym barefoot. What has happened to the quality of this gym? My goodness.

It’s an alright gym but definitely not worth the price tag (which goes up year after year). Facilities seem to be getting more and more packed every year too. The personal trainers are awful - constantly having their clients bang medicine balls all over the gym with no respect for gym etiquette, always in your face with the annoying “how many more sets do you have left?” followed by waiting right next to you while you finish up with the equipment. I will be taking my business to the Lifetime at the Pru as soon as it opens

This is maybe not specific to this location, but in general. I am about to visit and was told Equinox doesn’t do day passes, even paid ones. While I understand it’s a pretentious club, and that you want to make sure the members get the best benefits, that’s about the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I would even pay to visit, but because I don’t live near an Equinox, I can’t even check it out? Big loss on the management’s, probably corporate’s part.

I have visited several Equinox locations and intermittently come to this one. The group fitness options here are excellent. The trainers don’t just focus on form adjustments or injury accommodations—they also share interesting insights during casual conversations.

Attempted to Cancel at least 10 different times with 20 different people; and none of their systems seem to be synced up. They kept billing me after I cancelled, demanded private information about my exact relocation address (needed to see copies of utility bills / leases to cancel membership), placed me in collections AFTER they told me they cancelled my membership; this place is an absolute nightmare. Stay away.

Healthworks is a good women’s only gym, has the potential to be great. Just lacking strong AC and quality classes. The stepper machines are not in locations for taller females, can hit your head on the ceiling if not properly leaning over. Have been coming here on and off for 3 years. Currently doing construction downstairs, very loud and less space. Hopefully the construction will be done soon and AC will be added! Overall if ok classes and low AC do not bother you, I would recommend Healthworks!

Honestly, this is the best gym ever!!! They have all the equipment you would want whether you are more into weightlifting with barbells or prefer cardio machines or group fitness classes. It's always so clean; I feel like it's spacious enough where you aren't waiting forever or even that long for a machine or equipment on a busy day. I started coming here because of the perk through work and coworkers of mine who were members who moved out of state said that one of the top 5 things they miss the most about Boston is this gym.... it's pretty great.

By far my favorite gym that I have ever joined. The staff are really welcoming and helpful. The locker rooms and amenities (steam room, jacuzzi, and sauna) are top notch and unmatched for the price of membership. They have woodway treadmills and top notch training equipment - more than any other gym I've been to. I only left because I moved to another state - but I put in a request to Healthworks to open a location to my new city because I love it so much. I worked with Personal Trainer Kati and she helped me develop confidence in the gym and reach my fitness goals. By the time I left healthworks I had a solid gym routine that I felt much more comfortable using equipment safely. One of Kati's biggest strengths is her organizational skills - she sent my routine to me virtually with everything broken down by week. One last comment: a few reviews mention difficulty canceling membership. I did not experience any issues with them not allowing me to cancel and they have not charged my card since. Just call and have them walk you through the process and try to call one month out from the date you want to cancel to give them good notice and prevent any extra charges.

Joined a few months ago and really appreciate how clean and nice the gym is. However there are some issues with the classes. There is extreme variation between instructors with some of them being awesome and some seeming like they are either inexperienced or underprepared. There is also a lot of variability is how challenging the class is based on the instructor, especially with some barre classes being super hard and some being almost no work at all. Most of the classes with the good instructors fill up immediately also which is frustrating. I joined mainly because I like doing a variety of classes vs working out on my own, so not sure how long I’ll stick around if I keep being unable to get into certain classes or have to take a gamble on whether the class will be worth my time.

Absolutely love this gym!! The atmosphere & gym itself is a BIG motivation for me to keep coming back. From the moment I walked in 2 months ago I felt like family and welcomed into the 1 more rep community. Was given a tour and shared my goals/limitations with all the trainers which they are mindful of everytime I come in. I highly appreciate that and sometimes would suggest workouts for me to do. They have everything you need for your work out & more, even food! Better Bodies is located inside so I love that I can get a pre workout if I forget my own, or even a protein/high calorie shake or muscle recovery drink before I go. I can go on but just goes to show how much I appreciate this gym and their services to the community. Truly a gem located in Roxbury you won’t regret signing up!

Best gym I’ve ever been to. Owner is always around and one of the nicest people I’ve met, he goes out of his way to motivate you and help you. The gym and people look a little intimidating at first as it feels like a MMA/boxing gym, with an all black theme (super cool and fits the aura of the gym), but there is not a single person here (especially trainers) who isn’t willing to drop their stuff and help you. Made some good friends here, 100/10 would recommend.

Hands down, the BEST gym in Boston. Super dope and unique equipment aside, your experience here will literally make you never want to go anywhere else. If you're looking for a place where the vibes are just always positive, always warm and welcoming AND the satisfaction of having pushed hard as soon as you walk out: 1 More Rep is it and more. I've been coming here since 2019 and I've grown so much. In knowledge, in strength, in respect for myself and others who work so hard every single day to reach new heights. I don't think I'll ever find a gym this amazing and if you're thinking about trying it, I'm telling you - give it a chance. All levels are welcome and like all things, if you stick to it, you WILL see the change you're looking for 😉 ~ Positive vibes only ~ P.s. Get to know Jose Lora, Allen, Michelle and so many more - they are all some of the coolest people 🙏🏽👊🏽

Not terrible to find equipment to workout on even at peak times 6-9pm. It is busy, but folks don't mind sharing in between sets. And also it's a proverbial city-gym the members are kind and treat everyone respectfully.

It’s a nice gym with lots of equipments and parking spaces. The staffs are friendly and it’s relatively clean. However, I hate how hard it is to leave to the gym, it’s a nice location to get to but leaving gives me a heart attack each time because I have to get through like 4 busy lanes in a very short distance to get home. This is why I’d go the bsc/crunch down street even though it’s smaller and more expensive. Wish there is an easier way to leave.

It's the best planet fitness I've been around Boston. Big, nice view, air quality is good. The only problem is some noisy latino customers on the second floor, yelling at each other, talking loudly on phone.... the usual.

I really like this place because it has many machines. Also, almost every person there is just to work out and not shoot videos or get attention. However, you're a HEAVY LIFTER, then this isn't the place for you. Another issue is that it can get crowded at certain times so schedul accordingly.

Staff is great! They are always super friendly, helpful, and ready to answer any questions. I’ve been a member since this location was BSC so I went through the transition as well. The new renovations and equipment has been an incredible upgrade. They doubled their dumbbell quantities, added new power racks, back equipment, and some other miscellaneous equipment as well. They also refurbished all the old equipment they kept with new padding and anything else the equipment may have needed. I was honestly nervous about the transition but I’ve been very pleased so far and would recommend anybody to check it out! Just wanted to say again the staff is incredible!! Jacqui is always so warm and welcoming it’s an amazing way to be greeted every day and Reggie answered all my annoying questions about the new equipment. Thanks to the both of you!

My perspective: male focused on hypertrophy-oriented resistance training, Crunch Fitness Dorchester (formerly Boston Sports Club) left me with mixed impressions at best. The Good: - The staff are approachable and generally pleasant - Trial days are offered, helpful for assessing the gym before committing - Dumbbells up to 120lbs, not common at other facilities - Designated parking lot - Space for static stretching - Natural lighting - Weekends not overly crowded - Memberships options include paying more for access to other locations The Bad: - Floor space is dominated by cardio equipment, several machines are frequently out of service - The low ceilings make the gym feel closed-in - Open until 5pm on weekends - Lack of cable attachment options, exiting options are dismal The Ugly: - Membership Structure: While marketed as “no commitment,” the fine print reveals otherwise. Members are charged a ~$75 annual fee alongside the second month’s dues. This fee isn’t mentioned upfront, and the details of the membership contract is bypassed during sign-up. If you cancel within your first month, you’ll still be charged the second month and the annual fee, effectively penalizing you for leaving early. This “no commitment” promise feels misleading and underscores a broader trend in corporate gyms leveraging fees to trap members in unfavorable terms. - Equipment Selection: The range of machines is frustratingly inadequate. There’s no preacher curl machine, no hack squat, no calf raise, and no power racks. Even basic equipment like Olympic barbells (which are bent) and plates are limited, while cable stations are always in use. What machines are available often feel woefully outdated, poorly designed, or gimmicky—particularly the newer machines from Hoist, which sacrifice ergonomics for novelty. - Sanitation: Hygiene standards are disappointing (but improved in recent weeks.) Touchpoints on machines and equipment often leave hands smelling unpleasant after use. I’m usually tolerant of gyms with some wear and tear, but this felt especially poor in that regard. Members rarely clean equipment after use, and the gym’s reliance on spray bottles and paper towels instead of wet wipes seems to encourage this. While Crunch’s acquisition of Boston Sports Club gives some hope for improvement, this location’s private equity ownership makes me skeptical. The Dorchester area has an unfortunate lack of quality gyms, and while this may be one of the better options locally, that’s not saying much. The fitness industry’s trend toward consolidation only exacerbates these issues.

Been a member here since before Crunch bought it. I find the team members who work for there very friendly, helpful, and professional. They did a wonderful job updating all of the large equipment. If I could provide any type of constructive feedback it would be the dumbbell racks to be re-labeled and reorganized - folks kinda mix up the lower weights with the medium weight. Other than that, they almost get an A!

Formerly a BSC, now crunch . Has decent mix of new and old dusty equipment left over from the change . Seemingly seems very busy now but could just be the January crowd. Has its annoying cell phone stand influencers despite having a policy. Oddly enough there adding water massages room ? Or whatever that may be. Better then planet fitness without having to drive to far.

Parking!!!!!! I have been going to this gym for years now. The parking is unreal. They used to monitor the parking lot and tow individuals who parked there while they dined in a nearby restaurant. This is no longer the case especially on weekends. You can watch people walk out of restaurants to their cars when you are trying to find parking and there are clearly signs not to park. I have asked gym staff and they said that they do monitor parking , however I have yet to see it. Former BSC members were given and strongly encouraged to sign a form to avoid increased cost of membership from BSC to crunch. We were told we would be locked in at our current memberdhip rate. They stated in person and on the form that this premier crunch site would be much higher than the current rate of our membership. The rate would be 100-150 a month. This is not that case. I am still paying $50 dollars a month while new members are paying $30 a month. They capitalized on having former BSC members pay more by keeping their old BSC membership. Even when asked about why we are paying more, there is no clear answers. I suggest anyone who was a BSC member and signed this former to go in and rewrite their contract. A few friends of mine have written to the Attorney General of MA and have reported this to the better business bureau.

I've been a member at the River Street Planet fitness off and on for a few years now. I really enjoy the friendly greetings from the staff, they are all very nice and helpful. The gym is great and I love the new equipment that has been added, for example the rope and new treadmills. I've seen the positive changes from when I first started working out there. The location is very convenient it's only 10 minutes from my home, and there is lots of free parking. I also, like the early hours that they are open, this gives me time to workout before I head to work. Also, the membership is reasonable. The only thing is that I wish that they had a separate room for women to workout. And a few workout classes like kick boxing, yoga, and female weight lifting classes. Other than that I enjoy Planet fitnes. 😁

If I rated it a few months ago before the cardio 🏃♂️💨upgrade I probably wouldn’t give it 5 stars ⭐️ but with the new stairmasters, 📈 treadmills , bikes 🚴 and ropes it has made it a perfect 👍🏾 out of the way gym. I started back in July 2023 and I’m down ⬇️70 plus pounds today thanks to this gym being a 3 min walk and of corse changing my diet but I owe this gym for being a large change in my health life. The staff was always great at this location, but I've been trying to cancel my membership for months and I keep being billed. I have requested to cancel once in person, once via email, and once via mail- each attempt one month apart. I am still being charged every month. Had I known how often this happens when people try to cancel, I never would have joined PF. Apparently people have sucess sending a request via certified mail, so I'll try that this month. Hopefully the 4th time will be the charm.

Just recently re-opened after renovation. The space is nice with plenty of new machines, a specific 30-miute workout area/routine with a light to guide the timing, a stretching area, many bikes and treadmills. The cost is probably as low as it gets in terms of gyms honestly, so not a bad deal at all. For a little more money ($25 instea dof $10) one gets access to some massaging chairs, tanning beds (bot sure why haha), and red light therapy machines. One also gets access to other locations worldwide and possibility to bring a guest, so really not a bad deal! Everyone gets access to lockers, bathrooms, and showers, but no towel service.

Decent variety of machines for cardio and weight training. It does not seem like the best supported PF in the chain because some machines that have been broken for some time have stayed broken or some public cleaning supplies aren't replaced regularly, but the staff will step in where they can. It gets the job done for $10/month. I also LOVE the Caribbean vibe in there. From languages to music to body type. I feel comfortable moving around with a bit more curve to me. I have not used the “VIP” area to review.

Awesome gym. They have everything and each room is broken up by body part which is helpful (ex: sections for legs, arms, squatting, benching, stretching). Good amount of cardio equipment. Older and newer weightlifting equipment and machines. Really enjoyed my workout here - good vibes and friendly members. The women’s locker room has showers with soap and a nice sauna. Plenty of lockers to store your things. I went for a day pass as I was visiting a friend who lives nearby - price was $15. I thought it was worth it for a good workout

Very disappointing, came to the gym to take a tour and workout, was told no and must purchase a $15 day pass. In 20 years of checking out new gyms when moving to a new neighborhood, I have never been told you had to pay to try out a new gym for one time. Easy decision to never come back. I had heard it was friendlier in this part of Boston. Clearly not the case.

This place is alright. A no frills neighborhood gym that gets the job done. The owner is nice, the folks you email with are helpful and solves issues. 1. But — forget about the front desk folks — specifically the young man who sits there after 6pm — knows nothing, in a hurry to say off tangent things all over the place instead of listening to what you’re actually asking about, and defensively says things like, “I don’t care what the email says…” while you’re not even done with what you’re asking about and then contradicts himself saying “we are easy to talk to”?!? And the older man who just sits there and watches his shows. 2. They promote their phone app — but it sucks and doesn’t really serve much purpose. e.g. I already have memberships—but when I click on my app under my memberships, it shows nothing about my own membership; it shows the memberships that they’re currently selling. 3. When I first came to the gym, I told them it’s my first time and I asked where I’m supposed to go. The front desk elderly man just pointed to one side of the gym and went back to watch his show on his phone. Basically they take ‘no one will bother you’ to the next level. No one who works there actually bothers to know about the memberships they sell or anything at all! No one knows anything but the owner and whoever answers the email. Lol. I still go because this is the nearest gym facility near me. I suppose the area is ripe for competition or I hope this place gets bought out under new management or something.

Nice local gym. A little shabby, but there is everything you need for training, and it's pretty big as well. The best thing - they do not have contract, enrollment fees, commitment fees, annual fees and any other hidden fees. The price you see is the price you pay. And if you wanna make a brake, you're just stop paying, and that's it. Pretty honest policy, in my opinion, which is a rare good nowadays.

There's a 15 dollar day pass if you're not sure you want to commit or not. However, they usually have promos if you're willing to commit several months of training/going to the gym.

5⭐️✨! Not only is the gym conveniently located, the staff including Coach Pierre, Brandon, Dwight, Patrick, Natalie, Gabriel, Jeremiah, Nelson and Arlette are truly amazing and really want to see everyone meet their fitness goals 🙂. They are very welcoming and willing to answer any questions you have and the individual coaching and group classes are both a challenging and rewarding experience. Most of the gym goers are also friendly and willing to help you if needed. The equipment is in good condition and the gym has come a long way from when I originally became a member years ago. For the price, it is absolutely worth it and a good investment.

After 7 years of going to this gym I was recently charged $69.99 for a yearly fee on top of my monthly $26.99 fee. GREED at it's finest. I cancelled my membership and the girl at the desk tells me rudely they are not refunding me my $69.99 yearly fee so I had to put a dispute in with my credit card over this greed. They just increase the costs and they expect you to pay. Never joining this gym ever again.

This place has a wide range of machines and maximizes the space really well. The gym is clean and I enjoy coming here. Workers are very nice and inviting.

I been going here since it was opened. It’s solid for a cheap option. Friendly staff and a good price. I enjoy the gym. One thing I noticed tho is for the first ten years they always played Latin and hip hop and now they don’t haha. Gentrification has swooped in Roslindale and it seems they are playing all bad rock music eventho 95% of the clients are still black and latin and don’t like this music . Doesnt make sense.

this gym is amazing. It has tons of equipment. The employees are really nice and it’s always clean. The membership prices are reasonable too so that’s another plus
