Nice gym, very large with a lot of different sections, weight and machines. I like the layout and that it is big. The staff is also very friendly and they have a nice bike storage area. The second section of the gym (with the stretch area/astro grass) can be a bit hot on warm days, I don’t think they have AC in there just a bunch of fans and it can get stinky and stuffy in there. The location can be a bit dodgy, with a lot of drug addicts in the area and there is also some tents close by under the bridge, but it’s fine if you drive there. Nice large bathroom and there is also plenty of parking available. Gym gets busy at about 4is - 7ish.

DO NOT USE THE TOWELS!!! Just moved to San Francisco I enjoy the gym but would always use my own personal gym towel. Until I saw they offered there own and that was a mistake I use my own now as I broke out using there due to them not following proper cleaning procedures. Bring your own towel and use your own towel so you do not catch anything from them not cleaning there towels.

I've been going here 2-3x/week for 1.5 years and am really happy with it. I go in the morning and can almost always get on the equipment that I want. In the evening, it's a different story, but it chills out after 7:30. If you're a decently attractive guy, you'll probably have some eyes on you and guys will come talk to you, but not to the same extent as the Castro location. It feels very safe and non-intimidating here, especially in the mornings and midday. Value for the price is good for SF - they have a lot of nice things like massage chairs, massage guns, grip dynamometer, towels, etc. If you're wondering if there's a piece of equipment, you can get an answer just by asking here in Google maps. Last point: the morning front desk staff is awesome, so friendly! I am always happy to see them.

I’ve been training with Max at SF Fitness Soma for about three years. He’s been helping me strengthen myself to maximize my rugby abilities. Max knows his business around weight training, fitness, nutrition and gives great advice on recovery post rugby matches. Oh….and he’s an awesome guy too!!

I’ve been training with Max at Fitness SF SoMa since November, and he’s been incredible! Max is knowledgeable, motivating, and tailors each workout to my goals while keeping it challenging and fun. I’ve already noticed great progress and feel more confident in my fitness journey. Highly recommend working with him if you’re looking for a trainer who truly cares about your success!

I had such a horrible and uncomfortable experience with the front desk receptionist. He must not have been trained on creating a good customer experience. I have been to Equinox’s all over the country and couldn’t believe the treatment that I had. So unfortunate because I went to the Union St location the day before and had such a lovely encounter with their manager. I would never go to this location again.

They are very quick to send spam emails for referrals every two weeks yet when a referral signs up, they will make up rules that aren’t disclosed anywhere to not give the bonus. They will do anything to keep signing up people for their already crowded and small gym, but upholding their end of the agreement seems like a feat not worth respecting. Deceitful and incompetent customer service is what they do best.

Took a yoga class w Mary here and she was very warm and welcoming. It was challenging and a great workout. This location is sprawling. The art deco furniture is super fun. Tons of equipment. Personalized pumpkins. The details in the decor makes this location great for working!

Ok gym. Too crowded but good classes. Water pressure too low, tho I didn’t experience the no hot water issue others mentioned. I was told I’ll be able to freeze my account 60 days each year before I joined, but it’s actually just once per year for either 1 or 2 months at a time. Well that doesn’t work out too well for its clientele who probably travel often, does it? Hate chains like these trying to trick their members. Yet another reminder this is just a big corp trying to extract as much $ as possible. I did have a great 1:1 personal training experience tho. It was the first trainer I liked ever in the US. She listened to my concerns, paid full attention to my forms the entire time, and gave me the exact feedback I had been looking for. Unlike my previous trainers, she never looked at her phone once or tell me my forms were just “fine” when I complain about back pain. My pilates lesson was just average, so the quality of personal sessions vary a lot by the trainers/instructors.

I’ve been a member of Equinox for pretty long time, and I’m extremely frustrated with the recent experience I’ve had with their billing and customer service. I requested to freeze my membership for one month, as per the terms of my agreement, but was still charged the full price for that month. Despite reaching out to the gym’s management multiple times to request a refund, they have refused to correct the issue or issue a refund, even though it was clearly their error. I’ve always been happy with the gym's facilities and services, but this lack of responsiveness and failure to honor the freeze terms has been incredibly disappointing. I expect better from a company of this caliber, and I would caution anyone considering a membership to be aware of how they handle billing discrepancies. I’m considering taking further action to resolve this, but it’s been a frustrating and time-consuming process.

The gym is big and has a good variety of equipments, despite that I’m unsure if it’s worth the 300+ membership. The pool is always crowded and many swimmers don't wear caps. The front desk lady was pretty rude and unhelpful, the worst I dealt with compared to all other sf locations

This gym is enormous! They have all the latest equipment and keep this location incredibly clean. I love they have weights in 2.5lb increments (22.5lb and 27.5lb dumbbells)! It’s very spacious and the equipment is placed strategic for many types of workouts.

I came into this club with high expectations but unfortunately had a disappointing experience with the front desk staff. I arrived on a Tuesday evening at 7 PM and explained that I wanted to tour the location because I was considering switching my active membership from the Berkeley club ($226/month) to this club ($305/month with a corporate discount). However, the staff member informed me that, due to the club’s different tier, I couldn’t do a walkthrough on my own and would need to meet with a membership advisor. When I asked if a manager was available to assist, I was told there was none. I then asked if he could simply switch my membership on the spot so I could use the gym immediately. His response? “I can’t do that; you need to meet with a membership advisor.” This made no sense—why would switching an active membership require a manager or advisor? All that’s needed is to adjust which club bills me and the associated cost. To make matters worse, he suggested I pay $45 for a day pass to use the gym. Paying for a day pass at a gym where I’m already a paying member, shelling out $226/month, is absurd. After I made it clear I wasn’t interested in the day pass, he asked again if I wanted him to charge my card on file for it. What’s especially frustrating is how much worse the customer service was here compared to the Berkeley club. At Berkeley, I’ve had managers directly reach out to help resolve issues and ensure my experience as a member was positive. The contrast couldn’t be starker: while Berkeley provides proactive and thoughtful service, this club left me feeling like my loyalty as a paying member wasn’t valued at all. Other locations, such as Beale Street and Pine Street, also provide far superior service: Beale Street Club: Their staff were much friendlier and accommodating. When they couldn’t switch my membership on the spot, they apologized sincerely and took the initiative to connect me with their membership team. Pine Street Club: Also a great experience, with helpful and welcoming staff. For a club that charges significantly more, I expected much better. If you’re considering a membership here, I’d strongly recommend looking at other locations that value and respect their members.

The gym is fairly well equipped. It feels like a converted office. I think people join for the classes. Not many power racks and they don't get used very much. Equipment is always open. Nice executive lockers if you want your gym clothes laundered. It's a minor benefit and I always found the towels smell like old coffee. Also they shrunk my shorts and all the labels peeled off my shirts. My advice: keep it simple with fitness sf, instead.

I’ve been a part of the Barry's community for 3 years and have always loved the sport and the environment they’ve created. I’ve visited studios in over five states, and the SF Fidi location is usually great. However, I recently took a class with Max R, and it was honestly the worst experience I’ve had with an instructor. He didn’t demonstrate the exercises at all knowing that it was a room full of many first-timers, and no one seemed to be on track with the workout. He was honestly straight up mean to the guests and he kept messing up the counts. It really brought down the overall experience at this studio.

Fun classes every time I go! They do a good job at giving new clients the 101 on how a Barry's class runs before you step into the red room for the workout. Facilities and restrooms are clean, and staff are always helpful. Love Brian's class, but always a solid workout no matter what instructor I take

Have worked out with two trainers at this location. This time with tommy who gave great instructions and good motivating pitches. Also had a good sense of when I needed to slow down for a minute and didnt over push, which definitely shows experience. Would definitely take his class again and other people should too

My first experience at any Barry's location! Andrew made the class energizing and inclusive! Great, challenging yet attainable workout to start the day. Even gave me and my crew a shoutout as it was most of our first times. Thank You Andrew & Barry's SF FiDi team!

Horrible cancellation policy. I bought an intro package with the intention of buying one of the larger expensive packages afterwards. Will be buying a membership with another gym. The booking system is pretty confusing with “lifting” only spots if there are not enough treadmills and also waitlist spots. In this confusion I was booking thing incorrectly and cancelled them right after booking. The cancellations took my class credits and basically I wasted money. Feels very scammy to me. I called to talk to the front desk about it but it didn’t seem like they wanted to keep a client. Will look elsewhere.

Just started here a month ago, and I'm already having problems. One staff member came up to me and told me to not stay past the closing time. It was a holiday and I didn't know the holiday hours. I didn't check the app or the door, as I just wanted to work out and shower. I didn't get to shower. The woman was rude and continued to argue with me. I told her that she didn't inform me of the holiday hours; she had walked off when I checked in, so she didn't check my face on the computer monitor. Not very professional. Already, I see your rude staff and I will not pay if this continues. I will document every occurrence and if it continues, I will file a lawsuit. Respect your patrons!

Enjoyed my time working out here. While there are too many cardio machines compared to weight lifting machines. The locker room and showers were clean. The atmosphere is respectful and considerate. Appreciate Connie for making my check in times at the gym an efficient process.

Staff is very abrasive. Avoid if possible. I went for a tour, the staff led me around talking a lot about pricing, then at the end said I could try out the space. A few minutes later, the manager walked up to me, said I wasn’t allowed to try the equipment without signing up. I told him his colleague said it was fine, he said he just asked her and I was lying, and said I needed to sign up or leave before escorting me out. First time I’ve ever been kicked out of a gym.

The ceilings are so low, the heat from everyone working out and sweating creates an odor. They don’t have enough fans. The layout of the machines is really awkward. As I tried to get into my workout zone and decided to give them a chance, I start using the stair master and suddenly realize that there’s a security camera pointed right in my face. The ceiling are SO LOW the camera is right by the machines recording you. That did it. Worst experience at a PF because of the facilities. The employees are nice and helpful.

After 2 years of being a member of Planet Fitness, and never missing a payment, I get denied access all of a sudden due to some vague payment confusion between this franchise and my third-party provider. Both of these parties refuse to talk to each other, instead demanding a call from the other side, and im here stuck in the middle with no hope of resolution. This franchise won’t let me in even tho I have proof that I am up to date, while we sort this issue out. On top of this they refuse to let me speak to the manager Tarjay, and put a note on my file that I was angry and aggressive just because I’m slightly frustrated about the situation. They never gave me any advance notice about this issue, so now I’ve wasted time travelling downtown on two occasions just to be turned away even though my payments are completely up to date. I’ve found this to be an extremely unprofessional and frustrating experience.

I love the facilities here and it's my favorite gym in the city! My favorite part though is Eli's yoga classes – I try to join at least twice a week either in the gym or at the park (it's free at the park!) and I feel so refreshed after every session. Eli has been helping me grow not only physically through the poses but also mentally and emotionally as his guidance encourages us to be empathic toward ourselves and our bodies. Overall highly recommend the gym, and especially yoga!

I absolutely love this gym! It’s incredibly spacious, with a wide variety of equipment to choose from. The gym offers various types of group classes for members. It also offers InBody scans, which is great for tracking my progress over time. I’ve been training with Willie at this gym for 2.5 years, and he’s been fantastic—extremely professional, patient, and dedicated to helping me reach my fitness goals while also preventing injuries.

This location is an excellent addition to Fitness SF. Lots of space, updated equipment, and a motivating environment. If you have the chance to check it out, I recommend you do so! I want to give props to trainer Flossy as I've been doing Muay Thai training with him going on two years. He's a skilled and engaging trainer who is very knowledgeable in his field, not only educating you in the sport of Muay Thai but also makes it fun. These training sessions have been a great addition to my weight training, and I can say I feel more complete in my fitness regimen. Thank you much Flossy!

As a lazy ass that is very slow in developing habits, I'm happy to report that this gym was in fact inspiring. I took a free consultation class with a coach, who helped me create a plan and provided general guidance and fitness literacy that I've been lacking. Also, I'm a bit hesitant to mention Eli's yoga classes bc you guys are gonna drive it out of capacity. But Eli Pope is effortlessly fabulous. If you don't know how to start to stay consistent with your workouts, Eli's yoga is the answer

I absolutely love the Fitness SF - Transbay location! The gym feels fresh and modern, with plenty of space, clean and well-maintained locker rooms, and tons of natural light. A huge shoutout to Trainer Courtnie—she's been instrumental in helping me stay consistent, achieve my fitness goals, and perfect my form to avoid injuries. I’m so grateful for her guidance and support. Highly recommend this gym and its amazing team!

My buddies and I really wanted to come here for Korean Pop night, but the reviews made us hesitant. We ended up meeting a local the night before that told us we should come here cause it was a vibe, so we decided to give it a chance. It was a $30 cover charge to get in which is very standard for the city. 4 minutes after walking in, my boys and I looked at each other and said “oh yeah bro, this was the spot”. I don’t get why this place isn’t rated way higher. The drinks were incredibly reasonable for a nice club like this in the city. I was actually kind of shocked at how cheap they were. Staff were all really nice too. Location is just about as ideal and safe as you can get in SF so when you are walking to or from this club after drinking, you can rest easy. Great experience across the board, will be back next time I’m in the city.

I had a great experience at Temple recently with a bunch of friends on 5/25, which was allegedly their last day open according to SF news sources. I found out on that night from staff, however, that it wasn’t their last night and they’re still open. Having recently moved to SF from the LA metropolitan area, I was super impressed by the venue. It is way nicer and larger than any of the LA clubs I’ve been to in Ktown and Hollywood. I certainly hope it stays open because places like this make me want to go out every weekend.

If you're a fan of electronic music, this nightclub is a must-visit. Featuring famous DJs, the lights and sounds here are top-notch, creating an immersive experience that keeps the energy high all night long. The club also offers a unique variety of music with a basement area dedicated to different genres, ensuring there's something for everyone. On special occasions, they open their rooftop, where you can enjoy an awesome view of the city. The combination of great music, vibrant atmosphere, and stunning cityscape makes this spot truly exceptional.

Temple's current staff is fantastic! Big thank you to George & Carlos for taking care of the mamas at the GoldFish concert. So impressed & definitely recommend bottle service for a crew. Main floor has cool LED screens everywhere - was awesome to look up at the ceiling & see a stream of the DJs on their decks for part of the show. Cool lights, confetti, & smoke for the ultimate dance party. Been going here for 10+ yrs & seen the various remodels. Glad to see this venue is invested in a great staff, good sound system, & killer lineup. Keep it up! Oh & the cherry on top, their bathrooms & the dance floor were well kept and cleaned all night.

I contacted the nightclub before the show to ask about tickets since I had never been there before. I was told the closest option to the stage would be the vip experience table. When I arrived the ViP experience/open bar table was the last table close to the back corner wall and the stage was not visible. I paid $150 for the ticket (even though I told the person I do not drink). Turns out I stood up the whole time to be close to the stage- did not get one drink from the VIP table and the others next to me on the dance floor/ close to the stage paid $35 The messages she (Temple Management, Melody) sent me were very misleading and it was difficult to keep my cool after I got there and saw what I paid for. I did ask for a better area but was told this was what I paid for. There was no one I could talk to about it as they were all busy. If you're curious about what level ticket to pay for- buy the cheapest one possible if you want to be close to the stage. There are no sections that are roped off unless you buy a table with bottle service. If you do buy one of those I was told the higher price you pay- the closer your table will be. If you choose the VIP Experience- you will have NO VIEW of the stage and no screen anywhere that streams the show. You are basically screwed. Any option with a full bar will not be worth it- the place was so crowded you couldn't get a drink anyway. The artist I paid to see came out at 1am after standing at the stage for about 90 minutes. He was on the stage for about 20-30 minutes. He sang over the original tracks the DJ played- it was rough. However, my stars aren't based upon that experience. The 2 stars are basked upon being scammed out of $150 when I could have paid $35. The crowd was very young- if you are 21-25 this is probably a good spot for you. Mature crowds might be disappointed as the shenanigans are prety juvenile. I won't be returning now that I know what it is like.

The rating for this Live Fit Gym should be WAY higher! I literally love this place, and so do my neighbors and friends. The entire staff is welcoming and friendly, and I especially enjoy working with my personal trainer, Leona. The gym is clean, inviting, and has all the equipment I need. - Great Value: I appreciate that there’s no shower room or extra amenities I don’t use. Since it’s so close to home, I don’t need those, and it keeps the price reasonable. - Personal Training: Training with Leona twice a week helped me get in shape for my wedding, and I’m continuing with my training and gym routine because I actually enjoy the process now! - Additional Services: The gym offers services like chiropractic care and massage, which have been fantastic. The team listens to my specific aches and pains, checking in and adjusting as needed to ensure I get the best care. I haven’t visited the other locations, but I highly recommend the Mission location if it’s convenient for you!

We loved our live fit family, if you’re looking for a gym in the Mission, I recommend joining! Everyone who works there is super kind and friendly. The machines are great, the gym is never so crowded that you can’t get a good workout. Their services are top tier. Dr Frahm is an excellent chiropractor who really helped me with alignment , the massages are also really good! When it was time to cancel it was quick and easy without any hassle. We’re really sad to have to go. Thanks so much for your everything!

Love this Local Gym! Always enough space, clean and has everything. Staff is so friendly ! Taking off one star only because that they still don’t provide gym towels. I think that Monthly Membership that cost $100 should provide clean gym towels.

I’ve been a member for over 3 years and I love this gym and the staff have become friendly faces I love to see. I’ve been working with Juan, the best personal trainer, for 2 years and he helped me get in shape for my wedding as well as stay strong during my pregnancy. The new space is bright, airy, beautiful and a pleasure to visit, with air conditioning on hot summer days. Highly recommend.

The swimming pool is spacious and nice but a bit over chlorinated. The facilities are a bit dated, there's no soap in the showers, most people obviously don't shower before entering the pool (as you can smell particles that leech off of their their deodorant, cologne, perfume, sunscreen, moisturizer, and/or make up while swimming!), there's no machine to wring you swimming suit, the lockers are *freezing* (no heater, or kept very low), the standing hair driers are only for tall people, and there are no full-body mirrors. Furthermore, there are no drop-ins either at the pool or cardio+weightlifting rooms, even for students -everything has to be scheduled as a class at specific times. There are no functional clocks to keep track of time (other than a tiny one on top of the bleachers), which is most frustrating at the pool where it's inadvisable to bring your cellphone or looking glasses (if you want to see the tiny clock from the furthest lanes). Surprisingly, resources aren't open to the community (unless people go through the ordeal of becoming CCSF students). That's a big barrier to exercising, and a missed opportunity for the community college to provide more of a service to the community (their revenue would increase if they were open to the public for a fee, and for longer hours). Consequently, while I love the swimming pool (it's the best we've got in the city, anyway), the facilities seem to be severely underused, perhaps in part due to constrained funding.

Normal wear and tear. Smells like a gym ought. Bring your own mat for sure. Wipe everything down! Courteous gym goes. Spray bottles and paper towels available. Water bottle fountain outside in hall and bathrooms. I could make this my 3rd home after the library!

There is no air conditioning at the gym. With 3 basketball games going on simultaneously it does get very stuffy and hot.

Only thing that's bad is hours are limited. If you are a City resident this is where you need to be. Students who are training to become personal fitness coaches with up-to-date advice, friendly co-gym rats always ready with a spot, very female friendly/ no judgement zone & safe. Stop making excuses put the phone down and GET OVER HERE 😅

Gym is clean and in good condition. It is consistently crowded. I go off peak time intentionally and still have to wait for equipment and space. Staff is friendly. There is a huge deficit of barbells downstairs. There are not nearly enough in the 30-40 range that everyone uses.

General clean gym, friendly staff. Machine selection is very decent. The sauna seems to have been closed for months now, and they have just recently removed the door to the showers - so hope you have an exhibitionist kink. Will probably recommend switching to a location with curtains/dividers/doors…

As others have said, they will not honor their agreement to cancel membership. They will continue to attempt to charge you. Do not give them your card info. You want a better review? Then cancel my membership.

This location has a great variety of equipment. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. It is a very popular location, as it is frequently busy, you need to be flexible with your workout routine. However, it is not maintained very well. They don't seem to do preventative maintenance on the cardio machines, and wait for them to fail before they fix them to work properly. Some of the TV's don't have closed caption. The upstairs bathrooms are sad. The toilets don't flush well and the plumbing leaks. Ventilation is poor. The urinal that was broken for 2 months still doesn't flush well. The men's showers are cold and drafty because they have not fixed the broken door after a couple of months. With the door removed everyone that uses the bathroom can look in and watch members showering which is sort of creepy. One of the grab bars in the shower rusted off and hasn't been replaced--there are now just some rusty screws sticking out. The accessible handheld shower hasn't worked in years. One of the shower valves broke a few weeks ago and still hasn't been replaced. The other locations are well kept and have more amenities. It's too bad that the Castro location can't even maintain the basic gym amenities.

This is my local gym been coming for 2 years and i really love it. The staff keeps the place very clean & they are very friendly. Now to the people - have never had an issue, never made to feel uncomfortable etc. HOWEVER these men have to start wearing some strong deodorant!!! I should not be smelling you from across the gym. Please i beg!!!

This review is long overdue, but I’ve been going to SoulCycle in the Castro for about 5 months now, and I absolutely love it! The staff here are so nice and helpful, always making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. I’ve had a great experience with all the instructors so far, but I especially love Joe’s classes—his energy is contagious, and he keeps you motivated the entire time! The vibe in the studio is awesome, with everyone in class being so friendly and encouraging. And can we talk about the disco ball? It adds such a fun and energetic atmosphere to the room. The amenities are fantastic as well—everything is always clean, and the place is super well-maintained. If you're thinking of trying SoulCycle, I definitely recommend the Castro location! You won’t regret it.

From the moment you walk in you are greeted by very kind, friendly and always smiling staff that are happy to help. The music is motivating and the vibes are great! I’ve been going to this location for almost a year. Kamelle is my absolute favorite!!! His motivation and inspiring personality will bring out the best in you. He makes everyone feel included and supported no matter where you are in your fitness journey. He truly speaks to your soul and his energy is unmatched! Who knew a 7am spin class would be this fun!

This is my favourite SoulCycle studio. The staff are friendly, helpful and fun and I enjoy all of the instructors. Try a few different instructors as each have their own style, strengths and tastes in music. Great to have the amenities there if you need a quick shower after. Would highly recommend - and go soon as the merch is pretty good right now too.

Always a super fun spin class, and a good workout! Special shoutout to Nick and Kamelle, they bring such good energy to their classes to motivate all their clients, as well as reminding everyone to listen to their body and do what they can. The disco ball in the studio is also a fun touch to class! The front desk staff and all clients have been so friendly at this location. Showers are fully stocked and nice for a cool down after class.

This place is awesome! As someone who gets gymtimidation, I definitely felt like SoulCycle was warm and welcoming to newbies. They make an effort to create an inclusive environment where you not only get a good workout, but you also have fun in the process. I’ll definitely make a point to come here regularly now.

I was considering booking a drop-in class at Barry's Castro while visiting, but I wanted to get a quick look around the gym first to see the facilities. When I popped in, I was told this wasn’t possible—neither a quick look around nor a brief tour with a staff member was offered. I found this quite poor customer service, especially compared to what I’m used to in the UK, where gyms are generally more welcoming to potential customers. Needless to say, I didn’t end up booking a class at this location. A little more flexibility and friendliness would have gone a long way.

The workouts here are great. Everyone can run and lift but the vibe & the coaches here make it so much easier and more fun. I love combining running outdoors with the red room to also get some strength and interval training in. Also the facilities here are amazing - changing room, massage guns etc. 100% recommend going here.

The best Barry’s in the city. The workouts are a little more intense at this location versus the others. The staff and the regulars are super friendly. Book in advance because the classes fill up fast.

Love the Barry’s Castro! Great manager at the studio (Bon is a homie), fantastic staff, and my favorite instructors by far! So grateful it’s only an 18 minute walk from me!

I love attending LIFT classes with Tommy T. or Spencer L.! I always look forward to their classes, and will go out of my way to attend their time slots. The music choice is impeccable, their personality permeates into the classes, and the instructions are clear and concise. I also appreciate their variation in exercises in providing a targeted workout while also being challenging and new. Highly recommend.
