HKA became my second family. From ages 7 to 18, I trained and learned not only the way of a gentle warrior but of life skills that set me above and beyond for success ahead of my peers. It took just over a decade to return, and while while things may have changed, the people and kindness has not. I was welcomed back with open arms and it has once again become my self-care, sanctuary, and home away from home as though I never left. I would not be who I am without every member of the HKA family, past and present. Thank you for teaching!

Been coming here since September 2022, it’s an amazing atmosphere here. The classes are filled with great people and you’ll get a killer workout along with life changing knowledge of the martial arts and a new self discipline you didn’t know you had. Also, I’d like to note that there are numerous people who drive quite the distance to attend. You won’t be able to find a place like this anywhere else, that’s a guarantee. Try it out, you’ll love it!

I trained at this school for 5 years, but that was ~30 years ago. Back then, Tim Hoover and his instructors got me into peak fitness and taught me important core values. I have many good memories of my time there. I recently had a chance to take a class when I was back in the area, and was grinning ear to ear the entire time my middle aged, soft-in-the-middle body was being pushed to limits I haven't been to in decades. I was a bit anxious not knowing what to expect after several decades, but everyone was friendly and welcoming to a degree that I haven't experienced in a long time. I live too far away to take classes here, but highly recommend HKA.

I attended classes at HKA from ages 11 to 18. As a child who struggled with body image, bullying, and a lack of interest in traditional team sports, I was intimidated and scared when my parents enrolled me in martial arts. However, HKA quickly became my favorite place to be, and had a huge impact on my adolescent years. The instructors balance discipline & toughness with fun & positivity, making it a fantastic environment for anyone looking to better themselves. Without exaggeration, the HKA community changed the course of my life. The important core values, self-confidence and other affirmations, and a healthy lifestyle I learned there have carried on into my adulthood, influenced my career path, and continue to make me a better person. Hoover Karate Academy is not your typical karate school. It is a true Academy, where you learn how to be the very best version of yourself possible. Physically, mentally, emotionally - you will grow here in ways you cannot imagine. I have heard time and time again, “there’s no place like HKA” and I have felt that myself, when I left for over a decade to go away to school and start my adult life. I tried other dojos… I tried running races & challenge courses… I tried training on my own… but there is absolutely NOTHING like the energy of being in that dojo in person and the community that will push you forward from wherever you are starting out that day. As a kid, HKA made me who I am today. As an adult, returning to HKA has absolutely changed the course of the rest of my life.
