If you're reading this, you'll already notice that this gym (and all of its locations) have terrible reviews. They're not wrong. This gym is appears very nice at first glance, but is practically and functionally comatose. If your goal is actual fitness with a weightlifting focus, you will be better served at another gym chain. Period. Firstly, getting into this gym is its own joke of a process. The whole existence of their sales team seems intended to waste your time. Rather than having a clear-cut pricing model which are communicated upfront, they waste staff resources by playing games with you. Me and my partner may have joined months earlier than we did, but were waiting for special promos that we heard would come. By the time we did finally join, we already had a sour taste. Within a week, we realized we should never have joined in the first place. I believe this gym chain remains open only because of their reputation and the community-held belief that it's the best gym in town—it's not. I will say two positive things before I complain. Having towel service is absolutely amazing, and the locker rooms are really nice and well equipped! You definitely cannot get that at any other gym in town. My primary complaints are that the facility: is lacking some key equipment for a good workout; some machines are placed in awkard locations; the staff are very young and unwelcoming; there is no music; and it is swarmed by immature and rowdy high school boys. Overall, it feels more like an over-equipped community center than a serious gym. There is a shortage of attachments for the cable machines, which means having to search endlessly in 3 rooms for the only available attachment of several types. Despite having a plethora of outdated cable machines (like 2 free-motion cable quad and 2 hamstring machines which no one uses), they lack important pieces of equipment like handles for the barbell landmine or a t-bar row. Additionally, almost all of their equipment is just in weird locations facing walls or obstructing paths of travel. The front desk staff may very well be on work permits because they look and act so young. We are barely greeted when we arrive and almost never acknowledged when we leave. I can confidently say that was not the case at our last gym. More often than not, the children are usually talking with their friends at the desk, or gossiping other staff (someone got fired, I heard!). Speaking of hearing things, this gym is so quiet you can basically hear a pen drop. It does not get you in the mood to workout. The clientele skews somehow both older and much younger, but almost no-one in the young-adult range. There are times where as a near 30-year old man that i feel like one of the oldest people in the weight area, especially after 8 PM. The behavior of the young ones is sometimes just fine, but other times can be annoying. I know that I'm not alone in saying this, because I've witnessed one confrontation between an older gentleman telling a young guy to stop slamming weights—which culminated with staff intervention. I have talked to management personally about my concerns, and even wrote a long email explaining my experience in brief. Crickets. Lastly I'll say that we have friends who similarly are just as dissatisfied about their experience at this gym as we have been. After years of hearing from people left and right how great Sports and Wellness is, I can confidently say from my own experience: It's a huge bummer. I think with changes to their model and equipment (especially layout), this gym could change their focus and be an elite gym. It just doesn't seem like there is any motivation to make any changes whatsoever. Good luck!

One of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had. I signed up for what I believed to be a 3-month membership, only to discover I’ve been charged continuously for the past 8 months. While I take responsibility for not monitoring my account, Sports and Wellness failed to inform me about the auto-renewal policy. To make matters worse, the representative I spoke with was extremely rude and even hung up on me. I do not recommend this business—stay away.

I'll start out with the positive as my review is about the management and not the facility. I went to the Del Norte location and the facility was clean and spacious. They have a variety of machines, free weights, and cardio equipment in addition to nice amenities such as the wet sauna, indoor/outdoor pool, and hot tub. I noticed I wasn't going as much and so at the 1-year mark in August, I was going to cancel. Knowing the 1-month advance notice for cancellation, I called the club in July and was told I need to come in person. I was away for work and told them it wasn't feasible, the individual on the phone was courteous and said they could process the cancellation. I thought at the end of the phone call, the process was too easy, and they were very accommodating for my circumstance... Fast forward 2 months (today, 12 September) when I checked my credit card statement and see another charge for September. I call again, and now the manager said they have no record of the request and to call corporate. I call corporate and I'm getting asked who I spoke with, when did I speak with them, etc, etc. I don't know about you all, but usually when you get what you want...ie: cancelling my membership. I don't tend to write down the name of who was assisting. So corporate says they are defaulting to the 1 month advance notification and will have to charge again for next month with the membership now ending in November. As a service member, I'm a firm believer in following through with what you commit to. I hit my 1-year obligation and wanted to end amicably, but the company has other priorities ($$$) instead of customer service.

Love del Norte location. Awesome pool and gym. My daughter enjoyed their camps when she was younger and now gets the summer membership to work out and swim. We are fans! Highly recommend

I never really write a review about anything, but I feel like this needs to be said. I've been going to this gym for almost three years now, and three different times, Sport and Wellness has charged me $500 each time. At this point, I really think they do this purposely to get a cash grab from people. Also, rather than telling me someone I'm one month behind, they wait five months to tell you that you are behind. At this point, I find it very unprofessional and unethical. I wouldn't expect this from a place like this. At this point, what am I paying for? This is not a cheap place to attend. I expect more out of a place like this. I have no words for a place like this, and I've given Sport and Wellness patience. Not anymore. I will be reporting to the BBB.
