@FredoniaSt_MBB hit @ascend_erie for a day of climbing, bouldering and yoga to close out our preseason and kick off the opening week of our 2024-25 season. Hi-fives all around to the Ascend Climbing staff for their help in planning and running this team-building event for our guys. A great way to experience embracing new challenges and learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Highly recommend for teams of all types.

This place is fantastic! I’ll start off by saying I’m an Erie native, but have lived in SoCal for the past 8 years. I’m an active climber of 6+ years (indoor and outdoor) and love a good climbing gym. My wife and I were stoked to visit Ascend Erie during our most recent Erie trip. Ascend is the most perfect addition to Downtown Erie and a beautiful space overall. The gym itself has a great flow, it’s super clean, it’s bright, and it has plenty of downstairs and upstairs walls to explore. The route setting was soooo fun, creative, and challenging (shout out to the excellent route setters!). We had a blast bouldering. I loved that this gym has auto-belays, which is a rarity at climbing gyms these days. Ascend’s process of training new members about how to use auto-belays and requiring them to pass a test is a concept that I haven’t seen before, but a great idea to ensure safety and awareness around the common, but avoidable injuries surround auto-belays. Props to Ascend for implementing this great process! Final thoughts: The staff is very helpful and friendly. Thanks to Jenny for giving us a great tour, auto-belay walk through, and an overall great experience during our first visit! The merch is super cool. There are plenty of lockers, clean bathrooms, and comfortable seating / common areas throughout. If I lived in Erie, I’d be a member here hands down! This is my go to spot during any future Erie trips. I highly recommend Ascend whether you’re a first time climber or experienced! You’ll love it.

I had stop by the ascend in Erie pa on state street. Dani, Claire D, and Josh P was at the front desk and as soon as I entered the building they immediately greeted me with a great welcoming smile. The made me feel welcome into the ascend. Dani, Claire D, and Josh P. Were very friendly and respectful. I enter to drop some flyers and I left with a great smile. If the rest of the employees are are them 3. I highly recommend this place to the world. If google would allow me to rate them 100stars. I would probably rate them 200 stars. They are very professional at what they do. I highly recommend this place to every one. I hope the owner could read this rate. If you do. They deserve a pay raise. Very professional great job.

This gym is incredible! It’s always clean, the equipment is modern and brand new, and the whole place has such a great vibe. I’ve been working with my coach here for almost a year and a half, and it’s honestly been life-changing. The progress I’ve made and the support I’ve gotten have completely transformed how I feel about fitness. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a clean, well-equipped space with amazing coaches!

Prices were raised to $30 a month without any type of notice. Newly added saunas can't be used without paying $35 a month. Gym renovations actually ended up making the gym smaller. Water filter indicator has recently been disabled. Gross. Filters too expensive? $5 smoothie shakes were removed entirely. One time fee price has doubled. Owner dangerously drives his hideous truck 40mph through the parking lot and parks in the fire lane regularly. Money hungry and cost saving tactics are everywhere at this gym. Would not recommend. Edit: Quit lying. The price after Covid was $25 a month. After Crunch opened, it was raised to $30 with no notice. I've seen the water filter not be changed in several months at one point. The soap dispenser in the women's bathroom has been broken for over 6 months. You may think the space is optimized but in reality it's way more cramped. An entire section of the gym has been removed in favor of classes that remain empty 90% of the day. Multiple pick ups and drop offs are no excuse to dangerously speed through the parking lot and illegally park in a fire lane. The smoothies were removed long before any type of renovations. Your response is full of inaccuracies and excuses.

This is the best gym in Erie (or elsewhere). Immaculate facility and helpful people. I travel here 4x a year from Miami and it’s better than what we have - and they thankfully do day and week passes for travelers. If I lived here I’d be a member - no brainer. Thank you!!

PROS: Erie Fitness is a well-maintained gym with a clean environment, thanks to the diligent staff. The equipment, whether machines or weights, is typically available when needed, making for a smooth workout experience. CONS: This is my first negative review, but I feel compelled to share my experience. I moved to South Carolina in August, and it's now nearly December, yet I haven't been able to cancel my subscription. Despite multiple attempts to contact the provided phone number and send emails, it's impossible to get a resolution—especially since I'm 1,000 miles away and can't cancel in person. I even reached out to upper management, leaving multiple voicemails and emails, but received no response. However, once I canceled my card, they began relentlessly calling until they got the payment. The way they've handled this situation is highly unprofessional, especially after being a loyal customer for over two years.

I just started here after 4 months of being sick. I go at night, and the employee who works the front desk is pretty awesome. The gym isn't typically crowded late at night, but on the rare occasion it is, the members are always super respectful. It's much appreciated coming from someone who's worked out at multiple different gyms over the years. I appreciate that I can go in and do what I need to, and people aren't playing on their phones or trying to get photos for Instagram. The equipment is also super beginner friendly and they have staff if you ever need help.

I have held off on writing a public review as long as I possibly could—I understand that it’s a new gym and some kinks need to be worked out—but after numerous (kind) complaints to staff have seemingly fallen on deaf ears I feel I don’t really have a choice. The locker rooms here are completely disgusting. I don’t understand how a gym that has only been open for two months has gotten to this state. There are always overflowing garbage cans, toilet paper absolutely everywhere, incredibly dusty floors (I would doubt if they have been swept more than twice since opening), what appears to be grease spots on the floor, salt stains, etc. I once saw a bandaid remain in the same spot on the floor for over a week. The showers have no caddy or shelves to place your belongings. This has also been complained about and seems like a very easy problem to remedy, but no solution has been provided. (And…given the state of floors as mentioned, I don’t think anyone would want to put their personal belongings on the floor). Upper management once told me they were working on it, but nothing has been done in two months. The scale in the women’s locker room has been broken/missing since the first week upon opening. I have overheard other gym goers claiming to want to cancel and go back to their former gyms due to these cleanliness issues. It’s a lovely new gym with ample space and equipment, but the lack of upkeep really strips it of any prestige that it had upon its grand opening.

The facility is really nice, generally pretty clean and for the most part the staff is friendly. The biggest concern is that many times I went to the front desk to request a hydro massage bed, and I was ignored for over 5 minutes because they were so engrossed with their cell phones on social media and messaging. It was visible what they were doing, there were no other customers and I had to wait for their personal lives. It’s not professional or appropriate at a workplace. I hope it’s addressed soon, as it is a major deterrent for people.

I've been a member of many gyms over the years in Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Daytona Beach, and Crunch Erie has the best overall selection of quality equipment that I've had the opportunity to use. It consists of mostly Hammer Strength and a lot of Matrix, as well. I got the complimentary first training session with Maddie, and she was fantastic - very knowledgeable and good at explaining movements. I have spoken with the GM Chet, and he is enthusiastic and I can tell he really cares about making the gym top notch. Since they've opened I have noticed he has been fine tuning things and making it even better. Highly recommended - 10/10 -Bruce

Incredibly disappointed and disgusted by Crunch Fitness. My husband and I signed up because of its convenient location. We were offered a free body scan & meeting with a personal trainer. I figured why not take advantage of these membership perks and said yes. I mostly went to the appointment for the body scan - well, the body scan machine wasn’t working (and still doesn’t a month later). The meeting with the personal trainer was uncomfortable and unpleasant. I expected to get a few suggestions for workouts and/or diet - instead, I received a very boilerplate questionnaire and was walked around the gym and asked to do exercises that I frankly don’t know how to do, even after stressing that I have gym anxiety. After this, the “trainer” attempted to give me a sales pitch and told me it would cost over $200 every two weeks for ONE HOUR PER WEEK (two half hour sessions). I left Crunch feeling extremely uncomfortable and also angry that I fell for such a bait and switch. Two weeks later I went in and cancelled my membership. The gentleman at the front desk was incredibly rude (the manager Chet was there at the same time). I explicitly asked if there was anything I needed to sign or if he needed to give me something to prove I cancelled - he said no, you’re good to go. Luckily, when my husband visited recently he asked if my membership had been cancelled - and it hadn’t. So this employee (with the manager present) lied right to my face and told me he had cancelled my membership when he just flat out didn’t. Also - their “personal trainers” aren’t qualified personnel. I know several people who work there and it’s basically a part time side gig. Needless to say - my negative first impression was correct. I will never be returning to Crunch, and will be sharing this experience with everyone I know.

I am 84 years old and have been Erie Fitness Academy for 3+ years receiving individual training. During that time, I have had 3 different trainers and each one has been excellent. They listen and are very receptive to my needs. They are cheerful and friendly (as are most of the people who work out there) and. I am greeted by every trainer I meet on the way in. I couldn't ask for a more friendly environment. The facilities and equipment is well maintained and clean. My son and granddaughter also use EFA and have been for 5 or 6 years. This is the fifth gym I have used in the last 40 years and is by far the best.

Amazing gym! Everyone treats you like family. Great space. Variety of equipment. Different options for all fitness levels and sports types. This is my happy place...so blessed to have found this spot! Updated: This has been my gym for 7 years. The coaches and staff here are top notch. I wouldn't be half the person I am now without this community. The first place we went after we got married! This place is apart of the reason we even got together!

"I started with EFA back in October during Bring a Friend month in their morning TFW classes. From day one, everyone was incredibly welcoming and helpful, making me feel right at home—even though I had no idea what I was doing! I've been attending regularly ever since, and I absolutely love the people, the supportive environment, and the uplifting atmosphere. What I appreciate most is how they encourage you without ever making you feel guilty if life occasionally gets in the way. My goal was simply to like working out, and now I’ve reached a point where, if I miss a session, I genuinely miss it! Thank you for creating such a warm and inclusive space—it’s truly a special community.
