Before signing up for a membership, be aware that there is a predatory cancellation policy that will not be adequately made clear and hidden in the “fine print”. They word it in a confusing way but you will have to pay for the entire month that follows the month you cancel in. The gym itself is nice with plenty of equipment all in good condition. It gets fairly busy from time to time but it isn’t bad compared to the more inexpensive gym options. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. My only general concern was about the dated software the YMCA uses to manage accounts and store credit card information. My card was not being correctly charged each month and I seemed to have to repeat payments on strange schedules which made me feel uncomfortable about the risk of extra, duplicate, and/or fraudulent charges.

This is my favorite YMCA. It represents the diversity of the neighborhood. They provide a lot of services affordably. The staff are so kind and welcoming. There is plenty of devoted parking for the gym itself.

It's giving "take your money without fully providing what you paid for" ATP. They canceled 2 Swim classes due to weather, they've only rescheduled 1 to make up for the 2 canceled. When asked about the 2nd makeup class date they instruct you to contact a person who doesn't return emails. I've been given the run around simply for expecting what was paid for OR a partial refund for their failing to provide all of the service/classes paid for. It's bad enough nowhere on the sign up for the session did it mention there wouldn't be classes on Memorial Day. We found out on the 1st day of class in a rude & laughing in our faces manner for asking. Mecklenburg County Park & Rec are now also offering swim classes for a MUCH cheaper cost. Had Google supplied that information before I signed up for the YMCA, I'd have picked them instead bcuz everything I've heard about the Y has been proven true via this experience. So unfortunate for a once reputable organization. I gave 1 star bcuz at least a couple of instructors were nice & some staff. Should there be a change, I'll gladly update but we'll see. If there's not, I may follow up on the advisement of seeing how many others haven't gotten all they paid for too via social media. Maybe it's worth looking into in more ways than one.

So poorly run, closes when the manager that night wants to go home. Sauna closes whenever the cleaners want to go home, when you cancel, they make sure to charge you full price(outrageous price for the poor quality facilities and management) 1 more time when you cancel. Cancelations also take 7-10 days unless you call, making sure to squeeze the money out of you. Parking is a joke, listen to all these reviews before joining. I know I wish I did.

I love the place and the staff. Maybe stop hating so much on the little stuff, if you have an issue with this Y there’s two more right down the road not even 10 minutes away. Covid messed a lot of people up so obviously people are gonna be struggling but you’re not helping the staff or the business if you act like a Karen when they are trying to progress. Maybe try to be polite rather than letting your anger get the best of you. This is coming from a 21 year old too btw. :)

Best Y’s in Charlotte are Lake Norman and Dowd. Keith isn’t the cleanest as you can see in the video. They have physical training unit attached to the gym and on specific days of the week they have high school athletes taking up the multipurpose area where you have the squat racks and turf pad. The gym also doesn’t let you drop heavy weight on the Rogue platforms that are specifically designed for weight dropping on them. So if you’re a cross fitter wanting to do max weight cleans or deadlifts this isn’t the gym.

I had the worst experience yesterday. The staff is truly incompetent and incapable of doing their job correctly. For context I am a nationwide member and travel a lot. So typically anytime I go to a ymca outside of my city for some reason it’s such a lengthy process for them to check me in. Yesterday the lady at the front desk was asking me questions and she started asking more questions than usual, so I said “ Is there something wrong? I’ve been to this specific location all the time and they always let me in. I don’t know what the problem is. “ She then said she didn’t know what was going on and there wasn’t a manager at the moment so she would let me in. 10 minutes into my workout her and the manager come to get me telling me I have to leave and everyone is staring at me like I did something wrong. The manager (Allena or Ellena I can’t remember her name I believe it started with an A) then lies to me saying she spoke to my home YMCA and says I got kicked out of the family plan I’m in ( I’m in college so the account holder is my mom) She told me that I needed to grab my things and leave the facility. She also told me that next time I wanted to come in it would be $20. She didn’t allow me to explain myself or the situation. So I told her that I can call the ymca myself in her office to verify if that was true or not. I called my home ymca and verified that what the manager had told me was a lie. All they said was that there was an issue with the card on the account and it was expired but as soon as it got updated they would be able to process payment. I got the card payment updated and they had no choice but to let me back in. I believe they were trying to make it seem like I got kicked out of the plan so I could buy my own membership with them. It was a very humiliating and uncomfortable experience. As there were multiple people in the gym who saw me get kicked out and the staff tried to make it seem like I could not afford a gym membership. I felt discriminated against.

Great place for a swim, exercises, gym workout and many other sessions. Clean locker rooms, clean restrooms. Lifeguard on duty in swimming pool. Lot of parking. There is also a kids playground. Memberships required. Non members can enroll for a higher amount.

I’m here at the ymca right now, it’s very nice and clean, i don’t know what the other reviewers are talking about. This place is very spacious and well kept.

I’ve been to three different Y’s in the area, and this is my favorite. I really wanted to give five stars, but two things held me back. But please read to the end because there are positives. 1. I think it is unreasonable for half of the pool to be closed during water aerobics when the class doesn’t even take up but a fourth of the pool when they’re in session. With the physical therapy I have to do, I need to be able to walk down the stairs, and I take up about two feet of space around me. 2. EVERY staff member has been wonderful EXCEPT the water aerobics teacher that made a big deal of getting out of “her pool” when her class was in session. The life guard that was there at the time was nice and every other one I’ve come into contact with was wonderful. The pool manager was very nice to me and told me how to reserve lanes since I’m a nation wide member and can’t book online. Front staff have been great. It’s sad that one employee and experience can make someone feel attached. My suggestion is, if you travel, no matter what the pool schedule says, still call them before you come. You never know how each Y handles pool rules.

We played USTA tournament here. Great facility for tennis players. Older facility with a southern charm. Positives At least a dozen of lighted clay courts, well maintained. Four lighted pickle ball courts. Water and ice free Tennis courts (lower level) are physically separated from spectators (upper level an club house) which is great for tournaments Very compact, easy to watch many matches from the clubhouse level Club house has Lockers, couple showers, snacks, coffee machine, vending machine, lounge, even though quite small, table tennis, racquet restringing station, small shop onsite with tennis necessities Small gym for members Negatives Didn't notice many on our short stay, but it is an older facility, but it is not a modern top notch facility

When I played there the courts were over watered in some areas ( so slick it’s dangerous in the corners) and then so bone dry in others with almost zero sand applied to slide on. You can run full speed to try to get a slide and you just trip.

They never answer the phone or return calls. I dont know how they run a business like this. When i was trying to sign up for a membership, i could not get anyone on the phone to give me more information on it. After many attempts calling, I finally drove to the location to speak with someone. But the kid at the front desk can’t help me, so he has me leave my number so someone to call me later. No one called... after a few weeks, i try again and go back to pro shop, finally there’s someone there to help me sign up. Almost a year later I move towns. I don’t need a membership anymore, too far. I call to cancel, no one answers. I call again and leave a message. No one returns my call. I call a third time days later, the guy on the phone said he doesn’t know how to cancel my membership with their system. Says he’ll take my number and will have someone who knows how to do their job call me. Guess who doesn’t call me back! That’s right, you guessed it! So good luck, you really gotta want it! I give this 3 stars because the facility is nice, and maintained well. Once you get in, theres no issues, everything is scheduled with an app. Pretty simple.

Nice club. We were there for a tournament which was well run. Management did a great job with communication. There is some noise from the nearby highway but that is out of their control.

What a place!!! Unbelievable. That's the only way to describe this gym/ club/ wellness center. The largest amount of sports (indoor and outdoor) that you can experience and a enormous variety of fitness equipment and weight lifting as well. Definitely recommended 👌

Unfortunately this gym has since gone down hill. The equipment is great and staff is so nice but the influx of teenagers past 6pm has given this gym a bad rep now. From being loud in the locker rooms and the sauna (in groups) to hogging equipment (still in groups), if you go after 6pm it’s essentially high school. I think the gym would benefit from a 21+ up type of membership system. I am canceling my membership due to this now becoming a high school locker room.

You will not get the value or level of service expected at the price-point.We were two years. There are MANY treadmills that do not work properly and have NEVER been fixed. Overall attitude of staff is they are there to talk with friends and workout free and you are an inconvenience. Considering the fees are 10 to 15 times a place like planet fitness , what are we paying for? Broken machines? They have T shirts for sale`in the lobby. Green T shirt $79.00. They recently put in massage chairs, however at 327.00 a month my family can't use them. They are for people that pay more for the privilege. They are now remodeling to make room for more chairs no doubt. They removed 50 plus machines overnight. I asked if they were getting new treadmills? The front staff had no idea. I voiced my frustration. The person at the desk responded with a long YEAH. Like I know but what can we do it's the DMV right? After two years waiting for new machines and nicer people I canceled and bought my own treadmill for the cost of one month : )

Great location especially on a busy afternoon. Staff has been one of the most friendly out of all the lifetime fitness locations I have visited! Was a bit busy when I was there and couldn't get a squat rack but looks like there is a strong Olympic lifting community there. The parents with small children parking was something I have only seen at the Charlotte and Raleigh locations but should be a standard for other lifetimes. Again one of the most friendly staff I have experienced out of all my travels.

Toured this gym thinking that it would fit my needs more than my current club. It was FILTHY. I was disgusted by the locker rooms, bathrooms and main gym area. I asked our “tour guide” if that was how the gym was and he seemed to not notice any issue. With the condition of the areas I could see I would never trust the food serving areas or the pool water to be sanitary. This place was appalling. I’ll be staying at my current club. Yuck.
