Best Gyms with Cardio Machines near Gaithersburg, Maryland

12/30/24 - now that I've been here past the honeymoon stage (😂), I'm downgrading this to a 4 star for good for the following reasons. 1. the mixed martial arts area where I like to work out often is usually very dusty and grimy. Several times I've had to ask people to step off the mat (men and women) for not taking their shoes off as the signs indicate. The Lifetime staff really needs to communicate this better to members and clean and vacuum the mat more frequently. 2. The hot tubs are often closed due to maintenance. This should be addressed properly. 3. People are showing their true selves more as time goes on (e.g. I've had to ask people several times to get out of my swimming lane because they got in my lane and started swimming without asking if I am ok with sharing a lane first). Overall, it is still a nice place to work out with great amenities. I still recommend this place if you need a good place to work out. ‐------ 7/26/24 - they've taken immediate actions on my feedback! Some things are still not addressed, but most of it is a result of things outside of the control of the Lifetime staff. Bumping back up to 5 stars as a result. I am looking forward to staying a member for a lifetime. And I'm 🙏 that it lasts for a very, very, very long time. ----- 7/24/24 - now that I've been here regularly for a while, docking a star for some minor issues, such as dirty floors on the 3rd floor mixed martial arts area, miss matched weights/ equipment, and worn down treadmills. Still a great place, but not a 5 in my eyes. ---- This is the perfect fitness center that I've found in the DMV. In the words of the owner: "Life Time Gaithersburg is more than a gym, it's an athletic country club. Life Time has something for everyone: an expansive fitness floor, unlimited studio classes, basketball courts, eucalyptus steam rooms, and indoor and outdoor pools. Receive unlimited group training and individualized attention when you choose a Signature Membership." It's so true! People are phenomenal, equipment is top of the line, and hours are unparalleled (Mon - Fri 4am - 12 am, Sat - Sun 5am - 11pm). Come check it out; you won't be disappointed.

We absolutely love the Lifetime Athletic Kids Academy, and it has been such a positive experience for our family! My child looks forward to going every week, and a huge part of that is thanks to Ms. Mary. She is such a gem—kind, patient, and truly dedicated to the kids. Ms. Mary has gone above and beyond to make sure every child feels special and cared for. Whether it's engaging them in creative activities, helping them build confidence, or simply making them laugh, she has a natural gift for connecting with kids. My child comes home glowing, eager to share all the fun they had, and they always mention how much they enjoy spending time with Ms. Mary. It’s clear that she genuinely loves what she does, and it shines through in how she treats each child like they’re her own. We’re so grateful for the care and attention she gives, and it gives us such peace of mind to know that our child is in such capable hands. Thank you, Ms. Mary, and the entire team at Lifetime Athletic Kids Academy for creating such a nurturing and fun environment. You all make such a difference, and we can’t recommend this program enough!

I absolutely love this gym and so do my kids, they absolutely love the kids academy! The workers are always so accommodating to my kids and they all seem like they genuinely enjoy the kids (which I know can be hard sometimes). A lot of them seem like high schoolers so it’s awesome to see them have fun with my kids. Only reason for loosing one star is that the manager of the kids academy, Dan Fisher, needs some serious retraining. Every single time I’ve tried to call or ask for something, I will get the same answer of “I’ll get back to you” and he never does! He never seems like he knows what’s going on and can be a little abrasive with you. Caitlin, the assistant manager, is always hands on and seems like she does most of the work! Otherwise the kids academy has been a lifesaver for me when I need to have some alone time or enjoy a class. 100% recommend!

This write up is from a month or so ago, but nothing has changed, despite multiple attempts to get management atten. . This club is in decline. The amenities don't work as often as they work. Both the men's and women's steam rooms were out of order again today. The outdoor spa has been broken for at least three weeks. By the time it is fixed it will be winter. The men's spa is also not working. The towels are old and harsh. The shower heads have no pressure. Today there was a fire alarm. The notification said nothing of the kids in the kids club, so the parents had to fight the traffic descending the stairs to get there, only to find out that the kids were being evacuated down the back stairwell without informing the parents. They evacuation announcement said nothing of the kids. Lifetime manages to inform me of every new way they think they can make money off of me, both with app notifications and email, but can't do the bare minimum during what could have been an emergency. As soon as I check in I hear about the cafe and salon options. Do better.

I love lifetime it's always so clean and staff are super friendly. I especially love the life spa and going to master esthetician Jeanette! She is so wonderful and I won't let anyone else do my skincare or waxing ever after going to her. She has a passion for what she does and it really shows. Everytime I have a service done by her it's always amazing. Shoutout to you Jeanette!!

This gym is overcrowded. Even when the crowd meter is low, you will probably have to wait for some pieces of equipment. People stay on weight machines without taking a break to let people work in a set. It is not unusual to see someone using a machine for more than 15 minutes. They got rid of a pair of adductor/inductor machines when they renovated. They also got rid of their stretching cage. People frequently do not wipe down the cardio equipment (or other equipment) after use. I suggested multiple times to management that they put a note on the machines to wipe them down after use. Because they allow you to bring a guest for an unlimited number of times without restricting the hours, the gym is very overcrowded.

The hours, faculty and equipment are great. There’s a variety a of machines so there’s no real wait for different muscle groups. The facility is cleaned almost daily from what I’ve seen. Ample sanitation stations are located throughout the building. Beware some people still don’t clean up after themselves, I recommend cleaning the machines before usage. Especially those that will touch your skin directly like the bicep and abdominal machines. It always have a pleasant scent when I’m there. Oooh, they have buckets of candy for a nice treat as you a leave.

First time experiencing Planet Fitness. Very impressed with amount of equipment available and cleanliness of the facility. Special shout out and thank you to Jay for making my first workout a great one!!

Worst gym ever! People sit on machines and look at their cell phones for 10 minutes and then do another set. Impossible to cancel your membership as they said I had to come in personally to cancel. They then said my membership originated in Manchester, Pennsylvania which I have never been too! Cancelled my credit card and the fees rolled to the next card! Impossible to cancel!! They deserve -5 stars but I had to give one star to leave a post. Don't waste your time

I do not recommend this location at all. I called ahead of time asking about disabled shower. They said they have one. No hot water. The shower handle for disabled is broken. The shower hand held water sprayer for disabled is broken- no water. I told the attendant this as well as how upset I was that i called ahead of time and nobody bothered to tell me the condition of things...and No hot water. his response was, "ok". Also- no trash can in dressing room.

I started my kids here less then a year ago and they have learned so much in the few months. All the coaches are exceptional and very knowledgeable. The journey my kids have gone through is just a beginning and can't wait to see them grow and develop.

I've been training at The Foundry Jiu Jitsu in Maryland for nearly two years, and it's been an incredible journey. The instructors here are knowledgeable, passionate, and truly invested in helping each student reach their full potential in all levels, (as a high ranking BJJ competitor or simply as a hobbyist). Their guidance has been instrumental in my development as a Brazilian jiu jitsu hobbyist. The Foundry's culture is one of its greatest strengths. It's a supportive, friendly, and drama-free environment where everyone is focused on supporting each other to improve. I'm blessed to have made new friends and lifelong training partners here. The facility itself is always very clean and well-maintained, which creates a great and safe atmosphere for learning and training. I also appreciate the balance of challenging classes and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to keep coming back. If you're looking for a quality Jiu Jitsu academy with top-notch instruction, a supportive community, and a clean safe training environment, I wholeheartedly recommend Foundry Jiu Jitsu.

My time at The Foundry was a tremendously wonderful experience. The coaching team is friendly, professional, extremely knowledgeable, and goes beyond to solidify technique to all students. Fellow students are encouraging, positive, and supportive. I truly cherished my experience there and would recommend this gym to anyone in the area, from someone looking to start BJJ to an experienced practitioner.

Joining the Foundry family is one of the best commitments of time you can make for yourself (and your children). From the moment you walk in you will realize this is not some “typical martial arts business” but something far more special. It’s an incredible group of people from all walks of life pushing their potential under the best instruction around. The founder (Noel), is truly an amazing teacher and person. He leads a stable of highly decorated instructors who actively compete in tournaments across the nation. Yet, despite their competitive success, they are all humble, encouraging and patient; ensuring that even a beginner can acquire skills from their proven talent. I have referred several friends and even enrolled my young son along with me, as they truly care about every student’s development and tailor classes to every skill level and age. I see myself making Foundry/ Alliance a commitment for many many years to come.

The atmosphere and instruction is top notch. All the instructors are active high level competitors who now how teach the basics as well as the more modern advanced BJJ techniques. Each instructor is friendly, personable and willing answer questions and help in any way they can. The students enhance the training environment. I take classes in the morning and afternoon and each class is filled with friendly personalities who are also willing to take time help other students regardless of their level. The atmosphere that has been fostered at the Alliance Md location is like a family. I would not train anywhere else!
