SURGE VOLLEYBALL

Surge is a great club to play for! Ron (club owner) and Surge truly care about the players and their development. The commitment to grow the game of volleyball and serve athletes of all levels is inspiring. There are lots of events and opportunities to play outside of the teams as well. Also, Surge is very well organized. If you are looking for a club for you or your child to play at, that cares about the players, their safety, and their development, I highly recommend Surge!

This was our daughter’s first club volleyball experience. We had her do Surge’s fall league first to make sure she wanted to play competitively. She ended up loving it, trying out, and making a team. Surge does allow everyone to play, so keep that in mind if your daughter is more of a competitive player. There was a huge lack of communication between the organization, our coaches, and the parents during our season. One example is that our team received lodging information for a stay to play tournament that was six hours away, 5 weeks after the deadline, and months after the parents repeatedly asked for that information. The parents were then given three days to choose a hotel. There were zero team building opportunities facilitated by Surge or the coaches for our team, not even during practices. There was no one-on-one instruction during practices, however they do offer Small Group Sessions at an extra cost. My daughter’s coach told her on the last day of her last tournament that he watched her skills decline over the season, but never brought it up to her or us, which ended her first season feeling like she can’t trust coaches. All of that being said, keep in mind that everyone is going to have a different experience. All of Surge’s coaches are volunteers so your experience will be based on how invested your coach is in your team.

We had looked into a volleyball club a couple years ago called Shockwave. However, my experience with the owners was disappointing. I asked a couple standard questions via email and the owners were dismissive, unprofessional, and arrogant. It was almost as if it was an inconvenience to respond to me. That was just our experience but we will never spend any time or money with that club. We then found Surge. This is our daughter's 2nd year with Surge and she loves it. We appreciate the professionalism and kindness of the coaches. The communication is always available. They provide many opportunities for team bonding.

Having no idea what the club was about or how it worked, my daughter and I attended an Open Gym session. I met the coach and he explained so much to me. He was very pleasant and patient with us. My daughter loved the Open Gym time! There were about 24 kids there but his training exercises included everyone. My daughter's favorite was when front or rear lines rotate out when they make a mistake...very fast moving. She is going to attend another Open Gym at this club to be sure her enjoyable experience is consistent. Furthermore, being her fist Open Gym she has nothing to compare it to, so we do have some other club open gyms on our calendar.

Ron & his staff starting coaching, but even more importantly, mentoring my daughter at the age of 11. She was lucky enough to have Ron himself coach her until she was 17. Best decision we ever made!!!!! She was taught a whole lot more than vb. She grew as a team player, team leader & how it takes ALL to unify & do what it takes to move ahead not only as a team, but for she herself in life!!!!! As a result, we have made very best friends for life, all starting with the Ron Humer family💖THANK YOU COACH🇺🇸.
