There is one thing all karate students have in common — they all begin their journey as a white belt. UWA is rare; we have Grandmaster Wright, who has a unique gift of physical expertise and generosity of spirit. Grandmaster Wright, Sensei Jackson & Kenson are teaching these children while helping weave them into confident young adults. The instructors work exceptionally well with the children's and genuinely care about them. The program teaches children to work hard and have fun without immediately receiving something in return for their efforts. The perseverance, love and joy of learning is reflected in the children taking the classes. I have really appreciated the focus on skill, but even more so on character building – good sportsmanship, kindness & respect. UWA has a family feel that is welcoming to both new and existing students. They work to develop the students physical, mental and spiritual success. Grandmaster Wright is indeed a highly qualified martial artist who has developed an Institute for the study of martial arts, not just a martial arts school. This is not a school where you go a couple of times and walk away with a black belt. This is a family friendly school, dedicated to the study of martial arts. I highly recommend UWA to anyone seriously interested in martial arts training and especially to families.

Was a student for 8 years from the age of 7 to 15. I met many instructors during my time there, including Sensei Price, Sensei Jackson, and Shihan (Grand Master Austin Wright). It was a great extracurricular to do. Fun for kids but also becomes more intense and serious as you progress. I genuinely believe that the push ups I did back then every day helped me prepare myself for the career I have in the military. Thank you for the memories Shihan.

I highly recommend this school for your kids (age no bar). First of all Mr. Wright (Grandmaster /Coach) school is very renowned in Bayonne and he himself is a great person/ coach. Secondly, The other teachers & mentors are super friendly. Thirdly , the class schedules are very flexible and multiple times a week (totally worth your money). Lot of space to do group & personal practices while you are at this school. For me personally my kid started going to Mr. Wright’s school since he was 2.5 years old (youngest student till date). He is a yellow & white belt holder already. He learned discipline, follow instructions, physical education & various types of Karate training/ moves at this age. Never misses any day as he enjoys a lot being there with other kids to practice/play. For parents I definitely recommend to put your kids to this place so that kids will learn self defense and discipline in life. For me definitely a Plus Plus and 5 star for this place. Also, There are lot of free classes he offered for tryouts!!

My son has been a student with UWA for 2 years. Since joining, he has become more confident and challenges himself to be better everyday. He has learned so much and found a sense of family among his dojo friends and staff. We are grateful to Master Wright and his incredible staff for helping us to instill discipline, respect for self and others, as well as a sense of accomplishment and pride!
