Philadelphia, known to a small but influential group of locals as "Philly," seems to be some sort of a workout desert. There is no equinox and only one CorePower in the city?!?! Damn I'm starting to sound boujee lmao my fault... I made the trek from Black Turtle Coffee to Corepower to make the 1pm sculpt class. Much to my surprise, the class wasn't full and had ample space to actually do yoga. I think I have PTSD from every studio in nyc where even getting a spot in a sculpt class is an absolute BLOODBATH. Really grinds my gears but I don't really have a solution for that so Imma stop complaining. Mina (sorry if I spelled your name wrong Mina) was a FANTASTIC teacher, the perfect amount of leading a good workout but not making it so hard where no one can do the mf class smh. She also did a good amount of the class along with us, which is one of my critiques of yoga teachers in general. A good general leads from the front like Mina does. Mina isn't playing scared. Few things have my endorphins pumpin, dopamine rushin, like a good yoga sculpt class. The perfect mix for me of getting an actual workout and stretching out. I feel as free as a female gymnast in my body while simultaneously feeling lean like a Fight Club Brad Pitt after a good sculpt class. As for Philly, known to a smaller but likely more influential group of locals as "The Big P," I'm sorry I called you a workout desert but will some of y'all please give me some recs for other classes to do. I hang my hat on taking constructive criticism in stride when given opposing evidence. Why am I in the Big P so much lately? Good question, my dear reader. That will be covered in a later review. But I WILL be back to take Mina's class again. THANK YOU COREPOWER! THANK YOU MINA! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Mostly exceptional! Great workout. Challenging and effective. Friendly staff and instructors … With some constructive feedback/room for improvement. (Hence the minus 1 star). The positives: large studio space with multiple rooms for >1 class at a time. Prompt check in at front desk. Vast retail selection of yoga apparel, athleisure, mats etc. Locker room for showering, changing etc. Locks available. Vast schedule with early morning to later evening classes of variable class types — from more traditional yoga to yoga sculpt (which is more of yoga HIIT including abs, cardio, squats, and optional weights.) Yoga sculpt is my favorite class type and complements my cycling, Pilates, and orange theory workouts well. Mostly good instructors. Motivating. Encouraging. Good cueing and coaching with a tie in between body, mind, and spirit. Emma is great. Carla is great. Brian is great. Very challenging but modifiable classes with many progressions and regressions offered to students to tailor their practice to their specific skill level/needs. Clean space. Temperature well maintained (hot in the hot yoga studios but nice and cool in lobby and locker rooms). My constructive comments: music is usually VERY loud. Blaring. I like the music because it’s motivating and fun but it’s usually so loud that you often cannot hear instructor cues especially if they’re on the opposite side of the room. During final stretch/final rest, I want to relax and close my eyes but still, the music is at a very high volume. I have seen students in class who have commented on this pre/during/post class but feedback doesn’t seem to be acted on as it pertains to this. Some instructors (not all) cannot count. I have been a fitness instructor for 13 years so I have a lot of experience counting on the beat. Many count down from 8 but with pauses in between which is actually a 16 count — or count down from 4 but with pauses which is actually a total of 8. This may seem trivial and I know I am more sensitive to it due to my background but it’s important if you’re holding a plank or pose and want to pace yourself through an exercise. It’s something that maybe should be reviewed. All of the instructors here have good musical taste although I think it would be nice if playlist is changed more frequently. I teach cycling and make a unique playlist for every single class so maybe my standards are too high. My only suggestion regarding scheduling is that if there is a last minute sub, I would love to receive an email with an opportunity to cancel or reschedule the class. Recently I arrived to class to find that there was a sub and it is an instructor I’ve had before that I do not enjoy because she acts bored (if not bothered) to be teaching. Had I known it was her, I would have opted to cancel/reschedule the class. Finally, there is little to no reinforcement of the no cell phone policy in class. This is a reflection of how addicted and selfish some people are, but I wish the instructors reinforced this rule. Many yogis are texting, obsessively checking their phones during class and it is distracting, inconsiderate, and rude to both the instructor and other participants. TLDR: A very sweaty workout. Fun. Engaging. HARD. I consider myself fairly fit and I’m challenged by CorePower yoga sculpt every single week. Some room to improve, always. Thanks for keeping me strong!

I took my first yoga sculpt class today with my instructor, Jillian and she humbled me for 60 minutes. Jillian was incredibly kind upon my first check-in, making sure I knew where to go and what to expect, as well as directing me on where the class would begin and kindly suggesting what weights I should have. I thought she would be the type of instructor who just stood there and gave us directions but to my surprise, she was also working out with our class and encouraging us, as well as making sure to correct my form if I made a mistake which I do appreciate. The class was heated and hot, not uncomfortably hot, but warm to where you know if you put in a good workout, you will be dripping sweat. Jillian does make sure to remind you to hydrate and if you need to take a break it’s OK to take one as well, but pushes you to do your best. The studio is huge and clean, as well as having bathrooms and towels readily available. I do see myself getting a membership here! I can’t wait to go back to my next class.

I decided to take a yoga class to try something new. The class was ok , but when I finished I was so sweaty I really neded a drink of water. They advertised they had free water bottles in the back. But when I went back to get one, a woman working there started screaming at me to leave. I left the place angry and dehydrated.

Took a trial class at corepower yoga. I was surprised it was “hot” yoga but room was more warm and less hot - which is good because I hate super hot (over 100 degrees). Class I took was a mix of strength and stretch infused with upbeat coaching. Studio is clean- has full shower and lockers. I’m ready to go back!

I have attended Barre classes and Focus Barre and Yoga for many years. I enjoy each time with how much enthusiasm and energy each class is taught. I enjoy different moves in almost all classes! There are classes available at a wide variety of times and all the teachers are encouraging and knowledgeable. The instructors correct your posture, so that you feel a big workout although you do small movements. The studio feels clean and well maintained. The prices are reasonable, specially when you get a monthly pass.

Best barre studio in Philly! I’ve been taking classes here for over a year now. I absolutely love the studio and all the instructors are amazing. It’s like a little community where everyone knows each other but not in an intimidating way. 100000/10 recommend.

An amazing boutique studio! The classes are great, and the instructor is well-prepared, guiding you through the exercises so you can do them correctly and without getting hurt. They also adapt to your specific injuries or conditions. It has a very nice and welcoming community.

Barre at Focus is a fantastic workout! I'm the strongest I've ever been thanks to the classes at this studio. The instructors are great about helping you make modifications that suit your level and the times offered are perfect for my schedule. Highly recommended!

I've been going to Focus for almost a year now and can't say enough good things about it! I have taken most of the instructors at the studio for both Barre and Pilates Fusion and everyone is kind, encouraging, and happy to offer modifications. The Focus team makes working out fun and enjoyable while also kicking your butt. Every time I leave a class I feel stronger and ready to take my next class!! Since I've started taking classes at Focus, not only do I feel physically stronger but also more confident and excited about working out, which I never thought would happen!

Amazing experience! Attended a class led by Anne and she was fantastic! The pace of the level 2 flow was approachable for all levels! Will definitely be returning!

Unity Yoga has been my “home” studio since everything opened back up in 2021. My favorite thing about the studio is the diversity of classes that are offered. Based on my mood, I may want a chill class or a workout, and I can usually find one between the 2 locations that fit whatever I’m craving. I’ve also been on the River Mountain retreat and highly recommend! It was super relaxing and had just the right number of activities scheduled to balance vegging out and moving around.

Cozy studio space with many different offerings! I found this studio a year ago while doing a full moon yoga nidra with owner Arielle and since then became attached. The studio has a large variety of classes and teachers depending on my mood for the da. The teachers have been easy to connect to and are all very attentive and accommodating. There are also a plethora of fun workshops each month to attend at both locations

I purchased a 40 days for $40 new student deal at this studio and it has been wonderful to try out all the different classes! Both of the spaces in Chestnut Hill and Manayunk have a relaxed and intentional vibe and there are also free classes at the recovery center. I've been practicing yoga for awhile, but each class I've taken has offered new poses, sequences, and/or props that I haven't done before. The classes are very personalized as the teachers address you by name and ask if you have any particular need for the class. There have also been fun summer offerings such as yoga Bingo, Mae's Miley Cyrus yoga as part of the Friday concert series, and workshops if you want to dive deeper into yoga philosophy. Be sure to arrive early! The doors lock at the start of class to avoid disruptions. Great studio with an important mission!

I just finished a 75-minute Flow and Restore yoga class with Brittany and although I rarely leave reviews, this class warrants one … a 5 ⭐️ one! The studio is quaint and well-equipped and the instructor is professional, knowledgeable, and all inclusive. I will definitely be back; not only to take the same style class, but also to try some of their other classes Unity Yoga has to offer!

I love it, I always feel refreshed after my experiences here! You can tell how much the instructors are passionate about their craft, and the studio has a beautiful backstory to it! Just keep in mind the studio is currently only open for classes and on their retail day Saturday morning, so you have to make sure to sign up online in order for class to be on for the day!! 🙌🏽It may change as the studio grows. The beautiful experience and calming atmosphere at this studio makes it totally worth it! 💗

Jennifer's Leaf is a gem of a yoga studio, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! The light and airy space instantly puts you at ease, creating the perfect environment for practice. The owner radiates warmth and kindness, making every class feel welcoming and supportive. With Kripalu yoga and chair yoga on the schedule—which I have not seen offered anywhere else locally—this studio provides a refreshing and inclusive approach to wellness. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just starting out, JL is a MUST visit for anyone looking to deepen their practice or explore new styles!

Move with love is a home away from home. I’m so grateful to Holly for the warm and welcoming space she has cultivated. With my mini monthly membership I get to try out new teachers and styles. The special events are always interesting and the sound baths are divine!

I started coming to MWL last year when my spouse purchased me a new student pass for Christmas after we moved to the area. The space and people were immediately welcoming, and those good vibes extend to everyone I've interacted with since, whether teachers or students. Since those first few classes, the studio has become a place I visit multiple times a week and the classes I attend are often the best part of my day. The variety of class offerings means there is always one for the week or day or mood I'm having, and I don't think I've ever left not feeling lighter and happier than when I arrived. I'm so glad to have joined this community and highly recommend MWL to anyone seeking a welcoming and relaxed space to practice yoga.

Move With Love is yoga with heart and soul. The atmosphere is always warm and friendly and supportive -and the classes are fun and engaging for beginners and experienced yogis- also the studio is beautiful- sparkling clean and excellent large Jade yoga mats are provided for free. Each of the teachers works hard to make each class an experience- that helps your body and soul - one of my favorite places in Mount Airy❤️❤️❤️

I attended a my first Sound Bath at Move With Love - it was truly transformative! Holly's space is so calming, and the sounds of the instruments created a deeply relaxing experience that lets you fully unwind and recharge. I left feeling grounded, clear, and more at peace. The soothing atmosphere make it perfect for anyone new to sound baths or looking for a unique way to relax. Highly recommend for anyone needing a mindful escape!

Holly is the most welcoming and warm yoga instructor! She is the embodiment of her mantra: Move with Love. Move with Love remains my favorite find from the depths of the pandemic. Whether I'm taking a class with her in her gorgeous studio in Philly, virtually, or on the steps of the Brooklyn Museum, I know that I'm in for a treat. Classes are grounded in reality, listening to your body, and filled with joy - it's a dynamic combination.

I used to be afraid of hot yoga, but after joining Monarch Yoga, it’s now my preference. The environment is welcoming and the instructors are supportive. I love that they offer a wide variety of classes, but my personal favorites are the power flows – a perfect blend of challenge and invigoration.

Monarch Yoga - Kensington is fantastic! The instructors are skilled and welcoming, and the studio has a peaceful, inviting vibe. Perfect for all levels. Highly recommend!

Monarch Yoga has been a safe haven, both during the pandemic and beyond. They have great hot yoga classes and a wonderful community with a variety of offerings.

The absolute best yoga studio around. The owner is so kind and the instructors are so helpful and great at what they do. I love all the pop ups and outdoor classes they offer. Their studio is always immaculate. They live and breathe community and it’s such a pleasure to share the welcoming space that they’ve created. Thank you to the whole team! I love Monarch yoga!

Monarch Yoga has a vibe that can feel a little exclusionary but is very open and kind. There is a strong positive active community that attends often. The deep yin stretch and the slow flow classes are more for beginners. The other classes are generally hot yoga and more intense. It is a beautiful and safe location for your practice at every level.

I have been taking the Saturday morning prenatal classes and I have to say this is the absolute best thing I have done for my body since getting pregnant! I was having some back pain with pregnancy and after the first class I had a week free of pain; I couldn’t wait to get back! The vibe is tranquil, open minded and welcoming to all.

Pacific Yoga is the welcome mat to zen. What a beautiful studio and environment. Nicole, the instructor and owner, is one of a kind. She truly takes an interest in each student and guides us to a beautiful space of energy and peace

Awesome instructor and facility!! I was new to yoga when I first came to Nicole several years ago. Before beginning she took the time to assess what my intentions were and determine any limitations or injuries I had. She’s very cognizant about her students’ needs and is always concerned about injury prevention. The studio is a calming and comfortable environment and very conducive to good practice. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, Nicole will do an excellent job guiding and encouraging you in your practice!

Pacific Yoga is a true haven in the city. The owner, Nicole, has a vast wealth of yogic knowledge, warm & genuine personality, and the ability to keep her students safe and tailor practice to each individual. I feel these attributes differentiate her studio from many of the other “lifestyle” yoga studios in the area. Show up as you are, and leave feeling grounded and encompassed in calm. Very grateful for this gem of a studio. Also to note, the prenatal classes are wonderful!

Pacific Yoga is my happy place. I absolutely adore Nicole and am so grateful for the skills and strength she has taught me. I had a really hard time with working out and moving my body after the pandemic. Nicole created a safe space and provides a wide array of classes to explore and learn for beginners. I feel myself getting stronger and more confident in my practice because of her. I am so glad I found this place.

I joined Hotbox in January 2022 as a new resident of Manayunk, Philadelphia. Since then, I have re-found a love for yoga I had thought I lost forever, fell in love with a discipline that is more than a difficult and rewarding exercise and made wonderful friends. I am so grateful for the calm (and fun!) that Hotbox has brought into my life and for the truly exceptional instructors. I can’t recommend Ava, Sarah P, Steve M, Larry, Molly, Julie and Coco enough, however, all the instructors are fantastic. I recently moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia and now enjoy the Ambler studio. While the “vibes” between the two locations are different, I love both equally. Thank you, Hotbox! You are so loved.

Hotbox Yoga is a lovely community that is a welcoming space for beginners and experts alike. I started attending classes when I first moved to the area nearly 4 years ago, and I’ve made sure it’s remained a part of my routine. Each instructor offers their own unique twist on the flow that keeps things interesting. Some of my favorite instructors are Steve Marshall, Ava Samuel, and Sarah Panetta. My yoga classes are something I look forward to most in my week. Be prepared to sweat and work hard!

Great, welcoming atmosphere. The instructor challenges the class but also gives us grace to listen to our bodies. You have all earned yourself a new customer.

Amazing first class! Kicked my butt but I'm excited to do the 40 classes and sweat it out. I learned a lot the first class and can't wait to see improvement in my balance and stability! The instructor Sarah Panetta was awesome!!!! More Fast paced then I expected but it was so worth it and love the energy.. glad I’ve joined!

Larry Five Stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Larry is a gem at Hot Box. A gifted and talented instructor. His classes are precisely balanced and designed. The flows are very good. Each week he has a new theme and every class is unique and challenging. I look forward to his class every Sunday at 11:00am.

I started taking classes at Unity about a month ago using their intro offer 40 days for $40 for new students. I quickly realized that I would be continuing after the promo ended. I didn’t realize how quickly I would see results in the form of being able to touch my toes, eliminating my lower back pain and increasing my mobility. The teachers are nice so it makes it a great place to start yoga and/or continue! Would recommend!

I was a student at Unity for a few years and eventually joined their 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program. I just graduated from the training program in May. The program exceeded my expectations & the content went far beyond just the actual physical techniques of yoga. Brittany & Arielle, the facilitators, were so knowledgeable, patient, and hands-on. I'd definitely recommend their training program to anyone who is looking to teach or expand their knowledge of yoga.

Love Unity! I practice here many days a week, and appreciate how each teacher brings their own special flair to class. All the teachers are very supportive and actually want to get to know students. I was a bit nervous to join a new studio at first, but after a few weeks I got into the groove and am very happy I did. The community is definitely strong here and I look forward to my classes and to seeing my fellow yogis. :) They even have “consent cards” for students to signal whether they are open to hands-on assists, which I think is a nice touch. I haven’t seen this at any other studio. As someone who is in touch with her bodily autonomy, I really appreciate this. Try Unity- you won’t regret it! 💕

Love this studio. Took my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training here and I go on their yoga retreat each year. Everyone is so welcoming. Definitely recommend taking one of the more restful classes too (Nidra, restorative, or Yin).

Awesome studio with a wide range of classes from yin to fast pace heated class. Super welcoming and inclusive teachers. Kristin's Friday 6am classes are a great start to the day!

Lumos is the best! It truly feels like a community. The classes are challenging, yet super accessible and grounding. Every instructor is so friendly and welcoming and brings their own vibe to their class. I’ve been taking classes at Lumos consistently for a year now and can feel myself getting stronger and more at ease in my body. I especially love Alyssa M’s Lumos Flow and Jule’s Mat Pilates classes — they both have helped me so much with gaining greater body awareness. I’m so grateful that this studio is in the neighborhood!

Lumos is one of the most welcoming and accepting studios I’ve been to - all of the staff there are highly skilled, and can accommodate any skill level of student. The Parrish Street location opens right into the studio as you walk in, and is sunny and bright, great for day time classes. I’ve taken everything from Yoga to Barre to Pilates here, and enjoyed each one!

I’ve been coming to Lumos for about a month and a half. I love the variety of classes and teachers. I came for the yoga but trying new classes like barre and the works have become staples in my week. I’m thankful to Lumos for working with all levels of fitness and providing a positive experience in every class.

Lumos is the best fitness studio I have ever been to! The environment is so clean, warm, and welcoming. I really enjoy trying out the great variety of classes and instructors. There is such a wonderful community of people at Lumos who want to get to know you and connect with you. There is no judgement and everyone is always encouraging each other to try new poses and push themselves to be the best version of themselves. Love love love! I can't say enough good things!

I've been a member of Lumos Barre & Yoga for the past 1.5 years, and it’s truly always the highlight of my day whenever I go. The instructors are incredibly fun and welcoming, creating an inclusive environment where people of all levels feel comfortable. Whether you're new to fitness or more experienced, you'll find a supportive community here. As a local business, Lumos offers a wide variety of classes, from barre and yoga to sculpt, high intensity, and strength-focused sessions. Both the Green Street and Parrish Street locations are very cozy and clean and both studios are well organized. The atmosphere feels like a real community, and it's been amazing to be a part of it. I can’t recommend it enough!

I've been going to Lumos for about a year now, all through and after my pregnancy, and I can't recommend it highly enough! The entire team is friendly and welcoming to people at every level of experience and fitness. Their prenatal and postpartum classes with Alyssa M and RaGina are fantastic, but all instructors have been very helpful with accommodating positions and exercises for pregnancy (as well as any medical concern or limitation). Lumos very much feels like a community, and I feel so lucky it's just around the corner!

I feel so lucky to a part of the Lumos community. Lumos has made it easy (and fun!) for me to workout and stay consistent with my routine. Lumos is an inspiring and welcoming space to practice yoga, barre, and pilates. All of the instructors are incredible and make sure everyone in class feels comfortable. If you’re looking for a place to start or expand your practice, Lumos is the place for you!!!

I am so happy I found Lumos! It is such a great community—the instructors are fantastic and make everyone feel welcome. There are so many different classes to choose from, including strength training, barre, HIIT, yoga, and more, so there’s something for everyone. Each class is challenging and fun, and the energy in the studio is always positive and motivating. I highly recommend Lumos to anyone looking to find a supportive fitness community!!

Jean Jacques Is the best teacher trainer you will experience. This program was one of the best decisions I ever made. I’m grateful

Lots of variety in types of classes, teacher styles, and payment structures (including pay-what-you-can classes, and the option to trade work shifts for class hours). They have a really nice community lounge space that also hosts some regular community meetings. There are also a few individual therapy rooms available for healers/ therapists to meet clients. They also allow individuals to rent studio space, and have a small event rental space. Overall, this place has a wonderful energy, offers some really great classes, and is a great asset to our community.

I don't even live in Philly (just a regular visitor), but these are some of my favorite yoga classes anywhere. The Forrest classes manage to strike a great balance of attention to detail and tough workout with a very welcoming atmosphere. Between the welcoming space, free tea, interesting & eclectic events, great instructors, and inexpensive classes, Studio 34 must have been conceived and run by delightful peoples.
