Very friendly and experienced staff, BUT horrible LEAKING ROOF for at least 6 months that I’ve see; other gym participants say it has leaked for years! Come on VB, you can do better! We CAN NOT play PICKLEBALL when the courts inside are wet. WHY not fix our roof FIRST, than re-surface outdoor courts? Let’ get this long-standing issue fixed ASAP!

Last week, the pickleball contingent was disheartened to see that Tuesday and Thursday pickleball had been eliminated from the schedule. But we are all pleased that, after discussing our concerns with Seatack management, they added back the court time! Thank you for your prompt response.

NEVER have I encountered anyone as rude as the woman at the reception desk. She clearly did not care for her job or any sort of customer service. I intend to file a formal complaint with the city rec dept. She needs to be removed from that position & replaced with someone welcoming, competent & friendly.

I'm a visitor, just wanted to work out. The person at the reception desk: rude, blase attitude which is all somewhat forgivable. What is not forgivable is being incompetent. "Please give me your name" x 5, then "sorry, I didn't get that. I have to type it in ya know ". Really? Literally 10 minutes of my life wasted to capture my name, number and home address. Infuriating! Find another place to work out.

They kicked me out of the gym because of my size, thinking that I was 11. They are lying rats that don't care about their members. I'm 14 and they kicked me out because of my size. Horrible recreational center. Never go here ever.

Great place to go to work out on a daily basis. They don't open early enough to go before work but they do stay open pretty late during the summer months. There's a nice playground outside, and park area out back to walk through, and a gym that has most of the gym equipment you could hope for at a Rec center. However there are two big downsides... 1: Their kiddy pool and main pool are connected by design for accessibility but that has a tendency to make the water in the main pool a bit nasty. I have never used the pool at this Rec center for this exact reason. Look at other reviews for confirmation. They have gotten better over the last 2 years, just be aware that this IS a continuous issue that's being actively mitigated through more pool cleanings. 2: The gym is upstairs and their A/C does not work well for that specific area. It gets really hot and humid during the summer months and it's not ok to go work out during the middle of the day during said months. They did not account for the fact that heat rises and could accumulate up there due to a multitude of factors while designing the place. There is no work around for this except better A/C or going to work out in the early mornings or late evenings. I'll just say the better A/C is not working. They say they fixed their A/C but I honestly can barely tell the difference. The architect who put the gym upstairs in this place while not considering the additional A/C and ventilation needed to keep it cool due to basic thermodynamic laws should get slapped upside the head.

Bow Creek is a very nice rec center and well equipped and maintained. It’s usually moderately used during the day during main work hours. I am 87 years old and healthy after heart bypass surgery, pacemaker implant, four eye surgeries and aches and pains from arthritis and neuropathy. I need the exercise to maintain my agility as long as possible. The only part of the facility I use is the gym/weight room. I only have one complaint. The attendants play so-called music to , as they say, to offset the noise of the exercise machines and weights. I don’t know where they get the idea that adding more noise reduces or offsets other noise. The music is nothing but constant thumping which after an hour or more becomes more annoying. I have measured the decibels of the thumping music and it ranges between 65 and 75, in the range of hearing damage. I use hearing aids and the lowest settings do not ease the noise. I have tried plugs and the banging noise still can be heard. It is interesting how many people wear wireless headphones that cancel out noises. There is obviously no thought given to the need for such amplified noise because it is the same level of thumping whether there are ten people exercising or thirty. Noise from weights last a split second but the thumping is incessant. Some quiet time without the thumping would be welcome, at least some breaks from the added noise. Usually when background noise gets louder the people get louder. With noise comes tension and exercise is supposed to help reduce tension.

We usually go to the Kempsville Rec Center, but decided to try out Bow Creek because they offered a game room for the kids. I called before we went to check and make sure all the kids could go into the game room and was told the generic info and the staff never confirmed anything. I asked several times if they would be able to play and was told yes. When we arrived, the front desk staff was no help and we were told we couldn’t use the game room until after 3:15pm because of summer camp? Why did we get passes for the rec center if most activities can’t be used until the end of the day? There should be scheduled times for other people to used these activities room throughout the day.

I guess it's all about what you like to do. My exercise as a semi handicap person with leg issues is the recumbent bike. It's easy for me to use this piece of equipment. I live within walking distance to the kempsville center which is over crowded and I cannot access this equipment. It's worth a 20 minute drive to always access this equipment ten out of ten times I visited. It's worth the time to drive. Someone else pointed out no indoor track at bow Creek which is correct but during the cooler time of the year they have a small circular trail outside and access to the old bow Creek golf course if you really want a workout.

My son has been going to VB Fighthouse for their youth kickboxing/boxing classes, and I’m really impressed with the place. The coaches are amazing—they really know their stuff and work great with the kids. You can tell they care about making sure everyone improves and enjoys the process. My son’s confidence and skills have taken off since he started, and he’s always excited to go to class, which says a lot. He’s also done private lessons in both kickboxing/boxing and wrestling, and those have been fantastic too. The one-on-one attention has made a noticeable difference in his technique and overall understanding of the sport. Plus, he’s learning values like discipline and respect, which I really appreciate as a parent. We’re looking forward to him starting wrestling classes soon, and based on our experience so far, I have no doubt it’ll be just as great. If you're looking for a place where your kid can learn martial arts, get fit, and grow as a person, VB Fighthouse is definitely worth checking out. Highly recommend!

Forgot to leave Review with my rating.. updating.. I’ve been going to VBFH for almost a year now, and it has far exceeded any expectations. First off, Mikey is a stand up man. The level of passion he has for what he does is admirable, the energy he brings helping everyone that goes there is off the charts. He cares about every individual that walks in, regardless if he is directly training or not. There are not many places like that. The environment at the gym is also great. Never feel like being judged while struggling with learning something new.. my coach Madison is also top notch, never giving up and pushing me to get better. I don’t believe you’ll find another place in Virginia Beach that is better at what they do then VBFH.

In town on vacation just for the week. Went to the boxing fundamentals & mitt class and I love how they structured these! I’ve been boxing for over a year and these classes were really helpful to tighten up and see how other gyms coach this. Highly recommend. Also did a 1x1 session with Coach Mike and cannot recommend enough! I walked away with plenty of customized notes to work on. It was a great workout and Coach was motivating, challenging, knowledgeable and encouraging. His whole energy really makes you want to step up. Would be coming to this gym all the time if I lived here. Whether you’re at the beach on vacation and just doing drop-ins or are from VB and looking to start boxing or find a new home gym, this place is it.

Best weightlifting team in the mid-Atlantic! They have fantastic coaches in house as well as a number of great affiliate weightlifting gyms in the surrounding states. They put on great local weightlifting meets that are fun and also a great atmosphere to PR. They also host great seminars throughout the year that attract national lifters and their coaches. Highly recommend stopping in!

If you live nearby, I highly recommend getting the membership and USING IT. There are many perks for coming here. I came in for the day pass because I live in Las vegas. $10 for non residents or $8 for locals. This place is one of the nicest rec centers I've ever visited. An olympic size pool with lockers (quarters needed), hooks for towels and bags, and locker rooms for changing. There is a gym full of nice equipment. Basketball courts (indoors). A snack room with vending machines. And very nice staff to give information whenever you need help.

This is a very nice recreation center. There is a huge game room with table games like two and four player Air Hockey tables, billiards tables, skeet ball, classics like Pac & Ms. Pac-Man and much more. Ther is also a basketball game similar to those that one might find at a carnival where you try to get the high score for most baskets made. There is not, however a basketball ball court. There are also rooms that can be used for group meetings and the like.

This rec could get some updating. It looks the same as it did back in the 90s. The kids play area is pretty retro too and that's cool but there's not much for younger/little ones to do. No where for them to run/walk if they're not big enough to climb the playset so it can be boring for them. The staff is always friendly though. Also, sorry to say, but it always smells like the bathrooms here but I guess everybody just ignores or is noseblind to that. Generally everything looks clean though and the workers do what they're supposed to. Membership is nice to have depending on your needs/preferences. I have started going to another rec center in the area.

I went in the other day to get a membership for my family. I explained to them that my wife is a traveling medical worker that will be working at a local hospital for three months and we are staying at a local RV park. After the front desk personnel briefly spoke to the manager (which never came out of the office) I was told that we did not qualify for in state membership rates because we did not pay taxes here. Well, here is my problem with that. We pay over $150 a month in VA state tax at our RV park and my wife also pays VA state payroll tax out of every paycheck. We also have to file a VA state income tax return because of this. Not to mention sales tax because we are living and working in the area and spending money daily at local establishements. I understand that the out of state membership rules have to be in place for individuals that are for example seasonal retirees/tourist visiting from out of state, but as a working family we do in fact pay tax and contribute to the state of VA tax base. With all of that being said, maybe this facility and manager in particular need to assess each individuals circumstances before quickly denying them. In the end, all we wanted to do was immerse ourselves in the local activities and continue our path to health and wellness as a family.

We enjoyed our stay. The pool—our kids loved it—had plenty to keep them entertained, and the staff was helpful and kind. We later found out that they had a rubber duck collection for the kids to borrow and play with as long as they returned it afterward, of course. The shower rooms had hot water and plenty of privacy, and the facilities were well-maintained. We will definitely come back.

This was my first time at the rec center, going for the pool. It is so nice!! Definitely more geared towards kids- water slide, water okay ground area both in the pool and outside. Our kids had a blast! There's 3 swim lanes for laps. At least 2 life guards were on duty while we were there for open swim. A day off for kids is $8 and for adults it's $10. Not bad!

Crowded all the time and some of the patrons can be bullies trying to rush you off a machine that you've only been on for five minutes. The gym, specifically the upstairs weight room, is too small for the amount of people that use this gym. Staff is nice, but that's about it.

Worst rec center in va beach due to rude over regulating employees. If you just want to unwind after a long day don’t come here the staff are police officer wanna be’s who forget what “recreation” means…the pool lifeguards are jokes and everyone in charge here is incompetent. Read all the reviews and see how many are about the “staff”…I usually don’t care about stuff like that but the staff here will make you mad enough to want to fight. They obviously haven’t addressed the employee issue because the complaints go back over a year as I can see. Then they give the same generic answer further proving they don’t care just trying to sweep it under the rug. They definitely need new leadership there.

Nothing worse to get called out for swimming incorrectly as an adult by a teen lifeguard, really...???! & We tried to get into the deep end of pool to be rudely advised it was secured for special swimming classes... although the online calendar advised it was open and available. It was great at first...now my husband won't go back to do my required low impact exercise with me. Good grief ....looking for a new, kinder spot.

Only wish hours were open longer to avoid the crowds. Really could use a boxing bag.. simply put in one of the corners of the track.

This place was absolutely fantastic for a birthday party. We had our son’s 5th there. There were 15 4/5/6 yr olds and each had a parent or 2 and we all had a BLAST! We did the ninja course first for about 45 min and that got the kids running jumping and burning some energy and then did pizza and cake for 30 only to go back for the best time ever doing snowball fights during a glow in dark party time! Kids and parents played for a good 45 min. Our total time was 2 hours and it was perfect! Many parents said this is the most fun they’ve had at a bday party! It really was a great time. Tom was great with the kids! We will be back there for sure.
