If you're a full-time student, there's no reason for you not to come here. It's included in your tuition. I've had the wonderful opportunity to work out here and lose a substantial amount of weight. There's tons of equipment here for casual lifters, olympic lifters, and everyone in between. If you haven't started your journey yet and have wanted to, let this be day one. If I can do it, you can do it too. Chances are you'll make some friends along the way!

Overall good equipment but women’s locker room has roaches the size of a rodent. Very shocking to see especially for the price of the memberships.

The gym is filled up with free weights, lack of equipments, only 2 running machines, no elliptical machine. Even worse than some apartments' gym and can't refund as an IIT student. A really bad experience as student. I would say this is the worst university gym I've ever seen.

No one wipes down the machines and the main weight room is constantly full. Edit - still no one likes to use spray bottles but the remodeled upstairs weight room is comfy and I like it better. Anyone in sports get super preferential treatment and are allowed into the building whenever. If I wanna workout before 10 I cant but for some reason the sports kids get to do whatever the heck they want. Its really obnoxious and makes it hard to work out sometimes. Its really telling how they feel about the rest of us. Absolutely not okay

Both the gym and sports complex are good. But this is the only place I have seen throughout Chicago that just needs reason to close down. Most of the days they are closed because of various vague reasons like too hot, too cold, weekends and what not. If you are actually serious about being fit then this place is just not right for you!

The equipment they had prior to the remodeling was better. The barbells they have now aren't even the proper ones to be able to squat. There is no grip to the bar so that the bar can grip on to your back when squatting and that can be pretty risky especially with heavier weight. The racks they have now aren't sturdy and there are no mirrors in front of the racks either which makes squats feel a bit awkward at first. To me, this remodeling just tells me that we lack funding or whoever was in charge of ordering equipment didn't do so mindfully.

Come for the Taekwondo…leave with discipline and a fire burning in your heart with a newfound appreciation/obsession for martial arts. This is a fantastic dojang owner and operated by an even more fantastic family of masterful instructors. Bring your kids and yourself here to learn not just Taekwondo, but life lessons too.

At first i was a little skeptical about taking my son to a Taekwondo class. Not knowing what to expect I was against it. Honestly it has been the best experience for my son and for my family. My son absolutely loves to learn new things. Not only has he made new friends but he has also improved on he elasticity and his own persona. All the instructors, the owners and the parents have been completely amazing. Made our family feel like we have another family in our Taekwondo world! If your looking to teach your children structure and discipline this is the place you need to go!

First time coming to this gym location for First Ascent and was really impressed ! To start, there is not an official parking lot but a good amount of street parking in the area. Attached a picture on the front door on good places to park. The gym is very large, as there is 3 full alleys of bouldering and a small gym on the side. the locker rooms are large and there are plenty of free lockers to put your stuff in (they have padlocks on them). there is a wide range of beginner - intermediate and advanced climbs. the staff is friendly and helpful. the community at these gyms are welcoming, as i found it easy to talk to strangers about different routes and encourage eachother. the prices are fair and pretty standard. overall, a well rounded gym and will be coming back !

We came here as a group with some who already climb as a hobby and it was my first time. Kate at the front desk was friendly and professional and completed my forms and completed the intro with a video with information about climbing. After signing a waiver and getting Climbing shoes it was time to get ready. They have lockers to put away clothes and stuff not needed while climbing. They have an area to work out and it includes weights, treadmills, rowers, and more. They also offer group classes in one of the rooms. Finally, they have a good size place to climb, from easy to difficult and the climbing is leveled. We were there for about two hours and had fun climbing, if you have never done it, take it easy since you'll work out muscles all over your body. Free parking on the west side of the side street. Can sign up for a daily pass as well as monthly.

First Ascent re-inspired me to get back into bouldering and improving my upper body strength. There are many problems in this gym with a relatively tall rock climbing wall. You can definitely find problems which fit your level and problems you will aspire to solve.

Probably the best bouldering gym I’ve ever been to. Creative routes that are challenging and fun, and a fantastic/consistent increase in difficulty that allowed for me to push myself in ways I can’t at my home gym. Only downside is I don’t live nearby so I can’t come more often!

Absolutely a track you should run in for fun or very serious competition. What an honor to run here for the USA T and F Indoor Nationals Masters Championships. The banked track was at the right elevation and allowed for some amazing outcomes. The track in general is fast and well maintained. I look forward to running again, soon. We have been coming to the Track and Field center for a few years now for ballet and my son started soccer within the past year. Coach Robyn is great for ballet, but the manager Carlos Santizonleaves a lot to be desired in the communication department. Miscommunication #1: My son was asked to participate in a 3 on 3 tournament for soccer, we went to the location only to find out a boys team wasn't registered at all. No one ever called to say this or apologize for the miscommunication. Miscommunication #2: My son recently signed up for soccer that started this past Wednesday evening. We get there and he is the only kid there. This happened over the summer and we received a call about moving to a different class. This time absolutely nothing. I left my info, left a voicemail and sent an email. Magically did not hear anything until today when both my husband and I called (received an email within 5 mins of him calling) and had to go up there because according to the front desk the manager does not have a set schedule. Talking to the manager, I was basically told they still run a class for 1 student(sir I can play with him for free if that's the case), no urgency or apology for not communicating properly (only, oh we had a track meet today, but this issue was on Wednesday). This could have been easily resolved and handled. I pulled both my children from programming this session due to his incompetency. It's nice to have this spot in the neighborhood, but structure is needed. Professionalism is needed from the manager in communicating with patrons.

It's not the biggest gym, but that's to be expected given that it's in Chicago. The space that they have is used very effectively though, and the pool looks huge and well-maintained, although I haven't swam in years. Some of the weight equipment show their age, but even then, everything is really well taken care of, and there are also plenty of newer equipment too. There's a good focus on powerlifting and free weights in the weight room, and the equipment selection shows that. They allow chalk which is fairly uncommon in my experience for school gyms (neither UIC nor UIUC allows chalk for example) and commercial gyms. They have a variety of barbells, including women's bar (35 lbs and 25 mm diameter) and I think even some power bars (45 lb and 29 mm diameter) instead of the standard mixed use barbells (45 lb and 28.5 mm). There are 10 (12?) squat racks (technically 5(6?) two-sided full racks, but the point is that there are 10 or 12 slots with safety bar to squat and such), although there aren't any dedicated bench stations so you'll have to pull a bench over to one of the racks to bench. They have most of the weight machines you'd expect to see. The main critique I have would be that they don't seem to have a hack squat, and all their leg press machines are horizontal leg press, which feel way worse to me than angled leg press. They were doing some maintenance when I was there though, so maybe they had those machines stashed away. Also, while they don't have a hack squat, they do have 2 Smith machines so really, it's just the lack of an angled leg press that somewhat matters. There's a decent cardio selection upstairs, and there are several rooms to play/practice other sports. It would be nice to have some matted areas to stretch and perform mobility routines/yoga, but there are portable mats available.

Weight room is crowded and not well laid out and too small for the number of people they are trying to service. The steam room has been closed for years (with no price adjustment for a day pass.) The pool is now under construction for months. Lockers are expensive--$70 a quarter. Overall an okay gym, but lots of frustrations with it.

This review is for the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center which houses the competition pool for the university. A parking garage is across the street, but other than that it's a challenge, For safety I would not park off campus. My son swam in his conference meet the UAA. He swims for Washington University. Typically Emory, Chicago & WashU are the top programs in the country. The teams are competing in swim and dive. The facility lacks adequate spectator space for very large meets such as this. The pool is a 50 meter plus diving. It's a great pool and swims fast! The staff at the event over four days was excellent. Ticketing was handled well and the lines organized. They even had a coat check. My deduction of 1 star is the spectator area. Not only small, but the design is poor. Only the two front rows can see well. 3.5 rounding down.

We have been proud members of Warriors Institute of Chicago for more than 2 years. I enrolled my son at the age of 4 and have noticed a big change in his ability to try new things, understand what it means to work hard, healthy competitive spirit, goal driven and a different respect for discipline. The Chief instructor here as well as the other instructors really get to know the students, push them, celebrate their academics, and trian them unlike I've noticed at other Martial Arts schools. The school is very clean, inviting and trustworthy. I would recommend this for anyone with a son or daughter in any age range./

Awesome place. The Instructors teach respect and discipline, but still, make sure the kids have fun. Besides just learning technique there are opportunities for students to learn how to use weapons and sparring. Krav Maga Illinois is an incredible organization for self defense training. The owner Sue and her team have created a nurturing environment, welcoming and supportive but also strictly adherent to the principles of Krav Maga. The instructors are top notch. There is a comradery amongst the staff and the students, and although the classes are exhilarating and will challenge you to improve your fitness, there is always laughter and a light spirit.
