This YMCA is much larger than it looks from the outside. It also has way more parking than you think, but it doesn't excuse the fact that it's always crowded and still hard to find a parking spot during busy hours. This location is super convenient because you can literally work out, grocery shop, stop at the drug store all within walking distance of each location. We were there during and after their renovation, and they did a GREAT job. Our one-year-old took swim classes here, and she never wanted to leave the pool. The swim instructor was so great, and I was super impressed because I don't remember my instructor being nearly as fun. The only reason for three stars is because our daughter (then, only 2-years old) was continually scratched by an older child in their daycare location. All children baby through 12-ish were in one room which made me hesitate coming to this location because the giant age gap. Each time I asked what happened to my daughter, the workers never knew what was going on. After the second time, we switched back to the Bear-Glasgow location (much further from home) because the childcare was significantly better, larger, professional, and cleaner.

This is a wonderful place for daily workouts, they offer variety of options like swimming, yoga, Zumba, Gym and many more… Their 2 hour day care is amazing, especially if you’re are a busy mom trying to squeeze in some workouts for you. The gym is crowded in the evenings. They have plenty of parking lots however, if you are looking to park closer to the main entrance that won’t be easy all the time. It will be full most of the time.

Teen son’s belongings were stolen 4 different times! The last time I filed a police report. NONE of the staff members had a clue what to do!! I had to re-explain the situation to every staff person that was sent to “help”. They have cameras in the gymnasium and a monitor on the front desk but the kids in there are still not safe! It took a week of follow-ups, those in charge not getting the memo for 5 days, state trooper answered me through email before the staff did! They are all a hot mess in there. Staff members are clueless. Canceled my membership as soon as it was all over and am posting this as a warning to other parents who actually do care about their kids’ well-being. They do not care about you nor your child. They have every excuse to not have to actually do their job. Protocols are all over the place. I would not recommend this place for children nor teenagers. Check the reviews for all of the YMCA’s. They’re not up to par.

While calling about a family membership, we asked them a simple question on what their policy was for using the locker rooms. They didn't answer and, in a very nasty tone, told us the YMCA is not the place for us and our family. We called Hockessin Athletic Club with the same exact question and they were very friendly and explained everything in detail, and even invited us in for a tour. Ironically, it turns out both places have the same exact policy we were asking about. I'm not sure why the YMCA discriminated against us. It turns out we like the Hockessin Athletic Club more anyway so it all worked out.

This location is friendly and welcoming. Any time I visit there are always a selection of no cost options for members to join classes. I have tried cycling, indoor pool water aerobics, Sauna, gym equipment and always feel rejuvenated when I leave. I have been told by members I inspire them and I have shared similar sentiments with other members. It is a family friend, community uplifting YMCA. In addition, there are personal trainers and other programs with related fees to participate. I highly recommend the Western Y.
