Best Gym near Rockaway, New-jersey

Best of the 3 locations and the best gym around IMHO. I wasn't making progress at the corporate gyms but the gains I've made in this place are unreal.

I have been going to this gym for about 5 years and it is awesome. The owners care and quickly fix the equipment if anything is broken. The employees are friendly and easily recognize regulars and you can form friendships with them. They also are strict with re racking weights which is a common nuisance in other gyms like fitness factory when you don’t know who’s using a machine because people are to lazy to put their weights away. They are a local business that cares about their customers and give many things out to their patrons like free shakes and prizes. They are also very patriotic and extremely welcoming to all types of people especially first responders. Being a first responder myself and my brother being one to as firefighters it’s awesome to see many first responders and service members working out together and many American flags everywhere it also is 24 hours which is even better! Couldn’t recommend this gym more !

Been a member of this gym for around 2 years. One of the best gym i have been too. Great equipments, great community, love the atmosphere. One Membership allows to working out in 3 different locations. Love it.

Very clean. And nobody bothers me. Nobody tries to talk to me or flirt with me. I absolutely love it!! I get to do my workout focus and go home. I may come off as rude to others because I don’t want to speak to anybody, but that’s just me. An introvert trying to get a workout.

I'm a member at the Lake Hopatcong location & visited the Rockaway location for its grand opening event. This location hashas both modern & classic machinery, as well as, a functional training area. The facility is located conveniently off Rt 80 in both directions and has a good-sized nutritional supplement store attached to the front entrance. Now that I know what both offer, I'll be visiting this location from time-to-time. If you're not a member, you need to join. Trust me, it's well-worth your investment to support Topshelf.

Booked a birthday party for my daughter, received a phone call at 9:45 for our party starting at 10, letting me know that the gym had no power. We would not be able to use the facility. I was given the option to reschedule or move the party to another location, which we would have to share the space with another party. We decided to change locations, I then contacted all the guests to let them know the new location. Upon arrival at the other facility, there was very little assistance/interaction with anyone. No one was there to help since our party contact was at the first location. I was disappointed with the lack of communication at this point. Near completion of the party, I was given an envelope to put a tip in for the two gentlemen who helped the kids on the mats. Luckily I had cash since I wasn’t prepared for that. Due to this inconvenience I expected to pay a discounted price but was charged full price and given one apology. While I understand the matter was out of their control, it was not handled professionally.

Love this gym, especially Ms. Roxanne! She's such a great teacher, really cares about the kids, encourages them to try new things and creates a positive environment for them to learn. I appreciate that she's not just letting them run around and play, but that she keeps the class structured and checks on each individual child and helps them with new skills. We love Twisters and hope to continue coming here for years to come!

My wife and I just had our son's 7th birthday party here with his friends (March 2024), and it was absolutely flawless. First, the staff was courteous and helpful in the lead-up to the party, so getting everything scheduled, getting waivers done, understanding what we needed to bring, etc. was clear. If we had questions, they were more than happy to answer. On the day of, in the middle of a nasty rainstorm, the gentleman working the front desk leapt up to come outside and help us get the decorations and cupcakes from the car. He welcomed us, wished our son a Happy Birthday, and made himself available for our questions. The party room met our needs perfectly. We arrived early to set up decorations and everything fit beautifully. Plenty of tables and seating. They accommodate up to 24 or 25 kids I believe. We had 19 or 20 and fit fine. The instructors who took the kids through the activities were terrific. They prioritized safety but were always kind with the kids, and in turn the kids really responded to them. They helped me get my son's music playlist on the speaker system (which everyone loved) and adjusted to meet each child's needs, allowing the older ones with gymnastics experience to try something more challenging while gently encouraging the younger or the more shy kids. Top to bottom we could not have asked for more from the experience. Our son had previously done gymnastics classes here in 2020-21 (which they also handled remarkably well given that COVID was still hanging over us) and he's always felt so comfortable here. Highly recommend for kid's parties, summer camp, classes, etc.

So incredibly disappointed with this place. We signed my son up for a trial class for the 4-5 year olds on Saturday at 9am. We came in about 2 minutes before 9, no one at the front to tell us where to go or what to do. Figured out by process of elimination which class was his and the teacher barely acknowledged him and was cold towards him. My son is neurodivergent and has some sensory issues, so this experience really turned him off to this. Tried to find someone to talk to on our way out, but there wasn’t anyone to be found. I’m so incredibly upset that he had that experience and he didn’t have a positive first impression of gymnastics due to the approach here. I would think twice before you come to this place and ensure that you clearly talk to the staff multiple times before hand to avoid this kind of experience.

My 2.5 year old daughter was treated unkindly and unfairly for her age here by the staff.

Back in my youth, I was someone who would constantly workout. As I’ve gotten older and had children my passion for working out had waned. I decided that for my son’s sake, we should both start going to the gym. I was helped by a front desk worker, David, who got both my son and I memberships. He was knowledgeable about the membership options and got us both exactly what we needed. Great service that I wish more places had.

This gym has everything you need. The staff is incredibly welcoming, and their shakes are delicious. This location is managed exceptionally well.

WARNING THIS GYM DOES PREDETORY CHARGING - I blocked them as a merchant, and the gym changed their merchant name to avoid being blocked, it's absolutely crazy. I called and talked to management, and after quite a bit of back and forth they threatened to leave negative reviews on my realty business and then to that they will sue me if I didn't take down my review. Changing your merchant name to bypass a vendor block from the credit card seems like fraud to me. If not, it is at the very least something that people should be aware of.

Just joined last week b/c it's so close to home. Retro Rockaway just closed permanently b/c they were evicted. FF is huge! About 50k sq ft I think I read. There's an upstairs area with free weights, machines, treadmills, bikes, locker rooms, and a heavy bag room for boxing. Downstairs has everything too plus a 30 yard turf area ... I haven't even used the downstairs. Cost is a little bit more than Retro. The locker rooms-showers could be kept cleaner. There are wipes all over for wiping down the machines after use, although it seems like I'm the only one wiping them down. Front desk area is big, lots shakes for sale. Plenty of parking. Someone else wrote about crowding? What? This place is huge I haven't experienced crowds. Not too many broccoli-heads either!

This gym has equipments to do any exercise that you want, great diversity in equipments and spaces to do exercise however you want.
