Update 8/20/24 : The DM of the gym with the salt and pepper hair still chooses not to do anything. Even after I personally spoke to him. He sits around worried about kicking out the youngsters without a pass or flirting with the pretty girls that come in and have no idea about the cleanliness of this gym and broken equipment. See photos attached. I’m more than happy to reconsider my review but after staying away for months it’s only gotten worse after stepping foot in here again yesterday. My review has helped 10,000 plus people to stay away from this gym and I wish it was the other way to drive traffic. That’s also uploaded friends 🤷🏻‍♂️ Previous Review: 5/24 This gym has so much potential and is such great size but why is it so filthy??? Like there is no cleaning it’s non existent here. Machines haven’t been wiped down in probably a good year. The bathrooms are literally so disgusting and the showers don’t even get me started how bad it is. The sauna and steam room, touted as relaxing amenities, fall short due to cleanliness issues A ton of equipment is been out of order for awhile. The showers were quite a disappointment, they are always filthy. I’ve seen the same fur balls and paper on the drain for over a week. But I do realize overall members need to not be so savage like. Clean up after your damn selves people.however, this is an honest review and you guys need to do better before people get sick from this place.

If it were possible to give a negative rating, I would have rated this gym -5 stars. While the Group X instructor at 24 Hour Fitness in Lakewood, CA is exceptional—dedicated, passionate, and truly remarkable—the management at this location leaves much to be desired. It is evident that they are not invested in maintaining the facilities, recruiting new instructors, or adding new group workout classes. Since the pandemic, the management has reduced 60% of the group exercise classes, despite strong interest from both members and instructors who wish to continue these sessions. Currently, the daily schedule is heavily skewed towards Cycle and Zumba classes in the mornings, with only two cardio classes offered in the late afternoon. Before the pandemic, there was a diverse range of classes, including BodyCombat and BodyPump, offered Monday through Thursday at 5:30 PM or 6:00 PM. As a member for over 19 years, I have greatly enjoyed the variety of classes available, from Pilates and Yoga to various high-intensity cardio sessions. For those seeking a broader selection of cardio group workout classes, I recommend the 24 Hour Fitness location on Bellflower Street in Long Beach. Unfortunately, the Lakewood location has deteriorated significantly, resembling a rundown facility with numerous issues. The restrooms are in a deplorable state, with non-functional sinks that emit a sewage-like odor. The equipment is poorly maintained, and the front desk staff are often unable to assist with questions or concerns, offering only a smile and an unhelpful “I don’t know.” List of Issues at 24 Hour Fitness, Lakewood, CA: Active classes are frequently removed from the app, and despite members’ requests, management fails to reinstate them. This location seems more interested in collecting membership fees than providing the services members are paying for. Broken and poorly maintained workout equipment, particularly in the Group X room upstairs. The sauna has an unpleasant mildew/sewage odor. Restrooms: The faucets barely trickle water, making it difficult to wash hands, and the overall environment smells like sewage. Soap dispensers have been broken for years. Cardio equipment: 90% are inoperative. Dumbbells and Group X room equipment: 90% have broken handles, and 80% of the weight variations are missing. In contrast, the Bellflower location has well-maintained equipment. Free weights and bars: 60% are broken. Floor mats in the Group X room: 80% are torn, smell of sweat, and are insufficient in quantity for a class of more than 15 people. Hairballs are frequently found in the Group X exercise room. The air conditioning fails during the summer, leading to unsafe workout conditions where members are at risk of slipping during exercise.

I had an awful experience at this gym. From the moment I arrived, the staff member named Andrew was extremely rude and unprofessional. I was trying to register for a guest pass, which should’ve been quick and easy, but it took over 30 minutes. Andrew kept asking if I was just trying to work out for free, which was really disrespectful, and he kept pushing me to join the gym before I even got a chance to try the workout. Once I finally got inside, I found that the equipment was in terrible condition. Many machines were outdated, and some were even broken. It was definitely not worth the hassle, and I can’t believe they expect people to pay for this kind of experience. I was thinking about joining, but after the rude service and poor-quality equipment, I’ll be taking my money elsewhere. Would not recommend this place to anyone!

Broken equipment, filthy shower facilities. I report conditions to Omar the club manager. He is a jerk who just makes excuse and never gets anything done. He provides no oversight or leadership as a manager and ZERO customer service to members. The conditions in the men's showers are disgusting. Four out of four Recumbent bike are broken.

This is a nice gym. They have a lots of equipment, a big pool and they are open 24 hours so it’s very convenient. Unfortunately, I no longer go to this location because I don’t feel safe leaving my possessions in the gym lockers. On January 6th, my locker was broken into and my backpack was stolen. I went to speak to the staff member working the front desk and while he was well intentioned and wanted to help, he informed me that there was nothing he could do and I should call the police. I reached out to the police but they were no help at all. My friend and I went to back to the locker room and searched all the unlocked lockers and were able to locate my stolen backpack. This could have been avoided if the gym had staff do regular walk throughs to see if there is any suspicious activity going on. I hope 24 Hour Fitness starts taking their customer’s safety into consideration, otherwise they will start losing customers.
